Although Fred was 13 or 14 years older then Gene...his dancing career lasted into his 60's. I believe Gene was somewhere in his late 40's when he hung up his dancing shoes at that point preferring directing.
They were both great but I believe Fred's unique style and the depth of his talents...not to mention 31 films...puts
in a totally other realm. Class...modesty...charm....he had it all.

As a child, I always tried to dance lile Fred Astaire, even trying to dance up the walls and on the ceiling like in ROYAL WEDDING. 😌❤🎩👣

I don't think there was a rival between Fred & Gene, (the public there would be of course), but privately, because Fred was so humble & self-effacing and a different style from Gene.
