How To Reinstall macOS On ANY Mac

- There are several ways that you can reinstall the operating system on your Mac. The best method for you to reinstall macOS depends on your setup. For example, if you own one of the new Macs with Apple Silicon, the reinstallation method is totally different compared to someone with an older, Intel Mac.

There are several reasons why you might need to reinstall MacOS. It could be because you used Migration Assistant and now, things are acting "wonky." Whatever the reason, the good news is that this process is really simple. Before proceeding, there are a few things to remember:
1. Backup your data before proceeding
2. Reinstalling MacOS will NOT do anything if your Mac is experiencing hardware failure.
3. All of the reinstallation methods described in this video WILL keep your data safe. Backing up is purely a precaution.

Don’t know if you will see this but you seem to know what you are talking about, I just bought a MacBook Air m1 and when I go into the Reinstall Mac OS Monterey it says The recovery server could not be contacted. I have tried fixing the date, my internet is connected, I’m not sure what the problem is

I have a 2009 iMac which I wish to get working again. The original hard drive failed so I have replaced it with a brand new SSD. However, I just have an ordinary keyboard and not a Mac keyboard.
I have connected the iMac via ethernet to a fast Internet connection and tried on a variety of keys as it's starting (Alt, R etc) but nothing works... I still get the question mark flashing at me. How best to install a new OS, please? Thanks for your time.

I try to get to the recovery mode but after loading the interface and during the scn of the volumes it always reboot 😳
I found only 2 options on the web:
1/ Reinstalling MacOS Monterey via the store might reinstall the recovery partition
2/ "Recovery Partition Creator" script... But I'm not feeling so safe about this :/

Hi, i bought a older IMac 2017 after watching your video I thought this was perfect i need to reset the computer to the original OS (i believe the Ventura is slowing the machine down and cannot upgrade my memory) anyways after booting up holding the Shift+Option+CMD+R i get a dialog box that has 4 options Restore from Time Machine, Reinstall mac OS, get help online, Disk utility, i can move up and down on the options listed with the keyboard but after selection is made and i hit enter nothing happens, then i realized hit Tab i briefly see the "Continue" highlighted then i hit enter and still nothing. i thought this was the answer because i already did the CMD R last week and was able to reset to the lastest OS but again wanted to go back further...any thoughts???
I’ve got an m2. When I hold down the power button I get a screen that only shows OPTIONS it’s not selectable 1. Because under it is a spinning icon and 2 my wired keyboard doesn’t do anything and 3 it won’t recognize a Bluetooth mouse or trackpad. What can I do ?!
Extremely Urgent Help Request.....Could you please help with regards to MaOS X which I have had for a long time. I think I must have done something terribly wrong because I am not able to see anything when I open my Mac. So what I did was to use the DVD that came with this Mac when I bought it, hoping that it will re-install the original version of MacOS X. So after I inserted the DVD, it asked me to choose the language, then after that it asked me to continue when the installing, then immediately after I pressed the Agree, after Agree it asked me to choose where to install it but that window was completely empty on no HD or anything else showing at all. Which leads me to believe that I might have Erased some of the most important things on the computer. Also on the original installation DVD is actually MacOS X but when I tried to do the installing it show MacOS Snow Leopard. Also when I tried to get the MacOS recovery widow nothing ever comes up, even though I tried Command R, Option R Command Shift, Option R, the screen is completely blank. I am very confused and I have no idea what to do next so any kind of help that you could please offer me will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hear from you soon. Kind regards John E

Due to frequent black screen after crashing, even crashed in Safe mode, I've made up my mind to reinstall the Monterey. It's said that the Monterey has Memory Management bug, however, I'm not sure these experienced crashes have anything to do with that bug.
Reinstallation of Monterey on my MacBook Pro (A1708, EMC 2978) always gets stuck on Remaining 29 minutes, no matter which way I've tried. I've even tried to erase the Macintosh HD volume, but it doesn't help either. Now I can not start in Safe mode.
Some video mentioned that the wrong date or hard disk failure can result in stuck on reinstallation. After entering the Recovery mode, the "date" command shows the right date on the Terminal. And I made a shell script that looped 1,000,000 times to append some string to a text file. In the end that text file is 1.4 GB big, which might indicate the Macintosh HD - Data volume is good.

Can reinstallation be done without being connected to the Internet?
I have a MacBook M2, when I tried this it got stuck at the Mac OS install screen. A "continue" button came up, I pressed it and half an hour later the same screen was showing but nothing was happening.

Does anyone know why it won’t let me reinstall el captain on a 2008 I Mac. Got it for free and needs el captain reinstalled. It downloads for like 16 hours then goes right back to the main reinstall page
Will the data be automatically transferred with the reinstall? I want cloud OFF. Problem is an archive was created that is all messed up now, accidentally deleted, and some videos in my pictures folder are now dot move instead and won't play. Videos (some) moved to my external drive won't play either.
Since the original archive was deleted, everything is messed up now. Everything, because I was getting confused. I may have to open up cloud after the reinstall and then try to archive again.
Any videos showing how to create an archive on a 2012 Mac Mini? I'm desperate. I don't want cloud, but may have to use it to backup what I have and then bring it back down again after I delete duplicates, so that I have space again. Worried that it'll still have these dot move extensions though? Will it? And will a time machine data transfer do the same? I know the externals that aren't connected to time machine will still be dot mov. Thanks!

I have a 2015 mac but when I try and reinstall the original os (El Capitan) using the shift +option+command+r keys it seems to think Monterrey was the original os. Any way to fix this ?

I have an iMac intel based mid 2011 that I'm trying to refresh to sell. Every time I try to reinstall any OS option, the installation progress bar will reach the end, looking like it's hit 100% but then remains there and the duration shows -399 seconds remaining. This happens every time try to reinstall the OS. Any ideas on how to fix this?

@@TechTalkAmerica actually, that's not the case. I just tried the recovery from internet option by pressing the cmd shift option and R keys and this allowed me to reinstall the original OS that came with the system via Internet! Seems to be working and has gotten further than the install progress bar!
Um... I have the M1 chip, and you talk about the OS install but what about the data from my backup... is that the migrate step in the new OS configuration? Will I need my "old" password and will my accounts be set up?

My MIL was a teacher for 50 years, when she retired they wiped her laptop completely and the operating system refuses to be re-installed. Any ideas?

I deleted my OS with the intention of reinstalling it. However, my drive was almost full and now it's telling me I don't have enough space to install the OS. I can't access the drive to even delete some files to make room as I don't have an OS to work from on the computer. I do have Time Machine backups. Any suggestion as to how to get an OS again?
