Just had an emergency brain surgery almost 3 weeks ago to remove a 6 cm tumor (everything is good :)). My aunt and uncle got me a Nintendo Switch and this game as a gift. This game is amazingly good and has helped my brain come out of the fog from my surgery. Never would have thought a little handheld gaming system could pack so much fun. Amazing game that will have a special place in my heart for distracting me from the pain and anxiety in the early stages of my recovery!

Oh please, the only reason this game got a ten is because of its beautiful graphic style, georgeous, fully interactive landscapes and self pacing, varied enemy designs, nostalgic, colourful music, interesting story, advanced combat system, cornucopia of things to do, hoardes of NPCs to interact with, dynamic day/night and weather systems, huge amounts of secrets and collectables, crisp sounds effects, complex, thought provoking puzzles and fantastic controls...

As a mid 30's dude, I've always held steadfast to the gaming era of my childhood, NES and SNES. My favorite games were the original 8-bit Zelda & 16-bit A Link To The Past, and I never really got into any gaming consoles since then. That's all changed now thanks to Breath Of The Wild. This game is AMAZING - with wonderful parallels to the original. As a 6 year old, the 8-bit world felt huge, impossible to conquer, and sparked the most wild imaginations. Now, I'm totally taken back and reminded of those feelings. BOTW tapped into something bigger and deeper for me. Much more than "a game", it's the amazement and wonder of childhood revisited. Bravo Eiji Aonuma!

As someone that grew up in the same timeframe, I think Breath of the wild accurately shows what my 8 year old imagination was seeing in my head as I played through the first loz. This game is an experience, not just a game. Really took me back to my childhood and remembering sharing tips and tricks on things we found in the original game with my friends

Arcode42 - Witcher 3 and BOTW are both amazing but completely different. Witcher 3 excels at story, deep Side Quests, and moral choices. Zelda has great blind exploration and excellent puzzles. They are both great games but completely different experiences.

I'm 42 and have been playing video games since 1981. This is the best game I have ever played bar none. Completed it after 100 hours of play and have been utterly blown away by it - and still much of the game remains unexplored. I never thought a video game would excite the way retro games of old did but BOTW has done it. It will be a very, very long time before anyone creates a game of this magnitude and greatness again.

Bought a Nintendo Switch Lite a week ago for work. I've never been a Nintendo gamer, and I've never played a Zelda game. Bought this game as my first, and I'm absolutely stunned. Approximately 6 hours in and I can say that I've never played a game quite like this. The landscape, realism, cooking, hunting, combat, mobility, storyline, everything is just stunningly perfect! I can't wait to see what unfolds in my adventure in Hyrule!

So let me get this straight. When a Sony exclusive like Horizon Zero Dawn gets good reviews its considered “legitimate” and “unbiased”, but when a Nintendo exclusive like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gets critical acclaim the reviews are considered “biased” and only gave a good score because its Zelda? And on top of that those who are saying it doesn’t deserve those reviews haven’t played the game. Yep. The reviewers are the “biased” ones.

Here are your complaints. All 120 shrines. Got the Master Sword, all memories, all 4 main dungeons, etc. I give it a 9.5 out of 10. Outstanding game from beginning to end without a doubt and since it just makes it in that mark, I believe this is a masterpiece among video games. The cons of the game are as follows. You can spam health items. I believe it would have been better to make any item selecting in real time but you do have a finite amount of healing items, very few of the side quests rewards were not all that unique (usually Rupees), Would have been nice to continue playing after final boss but no Legend of Zelda to my knowledge does this so I guess it is a very minor thing, the slight frame drops are a bit of a miss and a single blood moon bug which is impressive for a game of this scale.These are all minor obviously and doesn't do that much to take you out of the game, and thankfully for only but a few shrines you have to use motion controls which are pretty clunky and tough to deal with. Sure am glad there was only a very small amount of those though, and the 4 dungeon bosses while enjoyable in their own right were not that specially designed and they all looked quite a bit alike though that final boss was very well done and quite challenging. At least there were some cool overworld bosses though that had some variety. Also would have seen a bit more variety in boss enemies and just other enemies in general. All minor gripes though. Couldn't find a single major flaw anywhere though many might mention the durability mechanics in the game but I do not consider them that much of a problem. It is something different and honestly pretty balanced overall. And it keeps you having to use more items. There might have been a few other quirks here and there but I won't mention them as they are nitpicky more than anything. Pretty much this game does everything else I did not gripe about exceptionally well. So I believe those 10/10 scores it seems to keep getting are at least justifiable. This is as strict as I could honestly be about this game. I would recommend it to anyone but like all games, no single game is for everybody. I do recommend if anyone wants to beat the game themselves for the best experience story-wise, get the Master Sword and locate all memories. Then beat the final boss. It gives a bit more closure in the end. Also locate and read all of Zelda's Diary.

I lost count how long I've been playing this, because not only can I play this huge open world game at home in my Tv, but I can also carry this thing everywhere I go. I can't say how many people like "this" zelda game, but I sometimes forgot that I'm playing A zelda game, wether thats a good/bad thing, I enjoyed my time exploring hyrule on the switch and even then I still havent gotten all shrines, seeds, quest, so I might come back again....

Theawesomedud44 it takes about if you take your time and like 60 hours if you rush through the story. It will probably take 200-300 hours if you want to 100 percent it. Buy it if you havnt already it's a great game.
Botw Link you sure? Cause to 100% this game you need to complete the story with all 4 divine beasts, complete every main quest, side quest, shrine quest, complete all 120 shrines, get all 900 korok seeds. I might have forgot something.

Looking back at this, it is pretty mind boggling how risky BOTW was. The wii u was a flop, the new Switch console was revealed 5 months before it launched, the only big launch game was BOTW. Think about if this were a mediocre zelda title, or maybe even a bad one? The switch would probably have had a terrible start, possibly affecting the rest of its life span. It was a risky move, but it was worth it.
And now look at it. This game jumpstarted the life of the switch, and it's already on it's path to becoming one of the most sold consoles of all time (if the predictions are right). It's truly an amazing time to be a nintendo fan.
You've got that right. It is incredible what nintendo has accomplished this year. BOTW, Mk8 Deluxe, Arms, Splatoon 2, Pokken Deluxe, Fire Emblem Warriors, and our big boy Mario Odyssey. Along with that stellar line up of 1st party games able to grab support from Bethesda, and 2K from the beginning was huge! 2017 is truly nintendo's biggest year in a while.

50 hours in and this is now among my favorite games of all-time.
i don't know why.. but when i am playing BOTW it reminds me of "Princess Mononoke" the anime movie. It has that atmosphere to it.

As the first Zelda game I’ve played from beginning to end, I have to say this is honestly one of the best games I’ve ever played. I bought a Switch just to play this game and Mario Odyssey, that’s how hyped I was for it. I can only hope that Nintendo eventually re-releases some of the older Zelda games onto the Switch so that I can play the ones I’ve missed. I’m especially hoping they port Wind Waker and Twilight Princess onto the Switch, those are the ones I’ve always wanted to play.

I played this game for nearly 100 hours and I still wanted more. Easily one of the best games of all time, IMO.
For all people saying the only reason it's getting high score is because it's "zelda," well, why do you think Zelda games always get perfect scores. Its more than just a game. Its music, story, and the way it unfolds makes you feel something, more so than the witcher 3 or any other game could do for that matter. Zelda makes you feel the FEELS, and not necessarily because of a moment in the story, but because how much you grow with it and come to love the world and its quirky and light-hearted characters, yet it has a darker tone set for the story and world. Its beautiful, and gamers who love and play zelda understand. That's why Zelda gets high ratings, and maybe higher than games like the Witcher. There's more than just story and gameplay in a game. Its the music and themes and little details that makes Zelda games continue to score so highly. There's a reason zelda games take so long to develop and there's a reason why people stick around and wait for the next one.

I haven't played Breath of the Wild yet, but have strongly considered buying a Switch in order to do so. I have however, been through the feeling you described with the Witcher 3 & Horizon: Zero Dawn. It's a painful feeling.

JUST got a Switch finally only because of my need to play this game. . I haven’t had a Nintendo console in such a long time. Zelda was the one for me as a kid and now feel it’s time. I’ve been pretty much a Playstation fan since the PS1 days and hadn’t looked back. Got my PS2, PS3, PS4 still and just got my PS5 a couple of months ago...so prety much just wanted to say Can’t wait for this experience! 😎👍🏻
I freaking love the way they made the visuals in this game. They went almost all out with the lighting, but used the art style as a way to lower texture resolutions on the whole. Overall, it makes the game run smooth, but also makes it look AMAZING. Anyone who says that this looks bad for a game from 2017 is pretty special in my opinion. The lighting in this game is TOP NOTCH.

got a switch for the first time a month ago. the first game I bought was breath of the wild (out of personal tradition, the first game I ever acquire when getting a new nintendo console is a Zelda game). I haven't finished the game yet but the way it is crafted and designed has led me to avoid finishing it and facing the final boss. every time I pick up the console, I know something completely new awaits me. I've never experienced a game like this. so complete and detailed. I wish I could go back in time to the first time I played the game. it's just superb and I don't know I will ever encounter a game that could improve on this one.

@@idonthaveanideatoaname2987 Super Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece in my opinion and is the best Mario game. Everything about it is incredible. I’ve put more than 100 hours into it trying to 100% it. Plus Luigi’s Balloon World is fun. Super Smash Bros is really fun. I’ve personally put in more than 200 hours into the game and it’s super addicting. The single player can get a little repetitive but is still fun, and the character variety is awesome. And I haven’t played New Horizons, but I’ve heard that if you aren’t doing two player it’s a really fun, relaxing game that you can play for hours.

For those of you saying this game only got a 10/10 because it's a Zelda game... have you guys stopped to think why Zelda games are highly rated in the first place? Nintendo's game designers are some of the best in the world. They know how to make good games on a repeated basis, taking time between each installment instead of rushed bullshit like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed. If you haven't played this game or don't have a Switch/Wii U, go to a friend's house and spend some time with it. I will guarantee an hour with BOTW will change your minds completely.
Though there seemed to be a few negatives he glossed over, Such as the mediocre voice acting.
I would have preferred full voice acting for all the characters instead of the weird grunting noises, but still an amazing game, and I've never played zelda before. Love it!

Like there is nothing rewarding enough after you beat the main quest. And even the main quest felt short and easy, like there are only 4 dungeons and all are optional

Update just bought my Switch Lite two days ago and got Breath Of The Wild and Pokemon Sword. Loving every minute of it. I'm gonna buy smash later today.
Can't find a Switch at a decent price, so I just downloaded it and I'm playing it on PC now. Looks great at 1440.
And it only took like 2 delays and 5 years to make! But I'll take that over a broken game on release day. Props to Nintendo from a Sony Fanboy.

Why do people constantly try to start console wars? I've owned Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft systems throughout my life and I loved all of them. We're all gamers. We all want the same thing. Great games. It shouldn't be a competition over what system has the best game or exclusives. Xb1, ps4, and hopefully switch are all incredible systems all with their own unique and fun games so just appreciate them all god damnit. Also, if we're being frank with eachother. Pc truly is the optimal place to play video games. It's just such a high cost to get started

Witcher3(2 is solid as well), rdr1/2, mass effect2, almost all fromsoft(modern era), Koa reckoning, horizon zero dawn/forbidden west, and some others. These games are all very great and match this with sheer content and amazing gameplay.

I appreciate that no points were taken off for the frame-rate drops. I believe that the fact that it runs as well as it does on the Switch is worth awarding points for, not taking them away. I got this game with my Switch, and I am blown away. I have never experienced any frame-rate drops. Perhaps it was fixed in an update, but regardless, I love this game, and think that a perfect ten does not convey the joy of this experience.

It's like telling 'Don't Judge a book by its cover'. And People are also comparing this game to The Witcher 3 and Horizon Zero Dawn, ok now I have played both of them but Zelda is different. Nintendo wanted to change Zelda's formula. So Zelda just took a couple of aspects from other games so it's not totally wrong.
