    @Vintage Air Inc - Is it possible to use the vintage air unit that mounts to the firewall in place of my original a/c heater box and use my original duct work under the dash? I know I'll need some of the various components and brackets and such but I don't feel like I need to use all the adapter pieces for the vents/duct unless I'm just misunderstanding and you have to. I have a El Camino so it's half a car to cool down.

    • @va197653

      These kits will only be used for the application listed, if there was another kit for the mailbu's it would be a separate kit made at a later date. cosmetically there are similar but when it comes to mounting all the components there will be deviations.

    What Dynamat and silicone are you using? Any part numbers or links would be greatly appreciated. Also where does the Dynamat goes? On the inside of the block off plate were the evaporator unit mounts to?

    • @va197653
      @va197653  Před 6 měsíci +1

      We used Dynamat Xtreme part # 46135-VIP we generally use all weather 100% silicone caulking. Also its best to insulate the entire firewall to keep hot air from infiltrating the cabin. In the instructions it shows the insulation only on the firewall cover (inside) but the vehicle would greatly benefit with as much insulation you can install.

    • @va197653
      @va197653  Před rokem +1

      Honestly, probably better. OEM vehicles use hard plenums that take some pretty long paths not to mention the reduced airflow through a cabin air filter. Our units will generally have a simple duct hose that are routed for the best flow path. and not a cabin air filter to reduce the CFM.

      I am currently doing this project on a Regal. NOTE: It is IMPOSSIBLE to remove the inner fender well without cutting into the wheel well to access the bottom-most bolts attaching it to the body (Under the factory AC box). Plan to do a little plastic welding, patching, or cut very neat holes and use rubber body panel/floor plugs to close them up when done. On a regal- most steps are very similar. The trim pieces and dash inside a regal have slight variations, but if you can safely take apart your dash, you'll do just fine. The vent set up is generally the same and the Vintage Air kit for the Regal should have all the vehicle-specific connections and fittings

      Vintage Air released the Regal/Grand National kit. My Regal has a juiced-up Buick 455 and needs extra room up against the stock AC box. The vintage air G Body Regal kit is the perfect solution and really cleans up my engine bay. My high-performance, Stage 2+ 455 Regal will EAT UP a Grand National! And it has wonderful working vents, heat, and AC for those hotter days, too!
      Install of the Vintage Air system for Regal currently in progress as of Jan 2023

    The only thing I don't like about this kit is it doesn't have a FRESH AIR intake. It only recirculates cabin air. What if my wife farts? I don't want 20* cold air coming in the car when I have to roll my windows down. I want warm fresh air ducted in the cabin to get the stinky air out.

    • @va197653
      @va197653  Před rokem +1

      the only kit that is different between the turbo and non turbo applications is the condenser kit due to core support deviations. all other kits within the complete kit the same (turbo/non turbo)

    • @brianzielinski6121
      @brianzielinski6121 Před rokem

      Vintage air website also shows 2 different hose options (get the new hoses, for sure) - one for the turbo and one non-turbo. Get the correct one for your application. My Regal lost the 6 cyl decades ago and now rocks a Buick 455 big block...but my original set up was non-turbo. I got the non-turbo hoses and condenser and everything is sized perfectly. The condenser install is dead-on and fits perfectly. The evaporator kit is the same for Regals across the board. Regal interiors/dashes are different from the Monte. Follow the instructions that come with the Vintage AC system and use this video as a supplemental guide.
