Guessing what Final Fantasy XVI's Music could sound like

- I asked myself: what could FFXVI's battle music sound like?
I can't wait to hear snippets of the Final Fantasy XVI soundtrack, but since we haven't had news in forever... I decided to write it myself.
Here's my interpretation of I think FF16's Boss Theme could sound like, based on what we heard from the reveal trailer music.
A flurry of aggressively orchestrated notes akin to an action jRPG game!

If they gave you 30 days to come up with a boss theme for one of the summons, who would you pick, why, and how would you approach it?

Square's composers and teams in general regarding their music are already incredible and highly prolific. However, if by some miracle you were apart of it, the level of reassurance I'd feel is indescribable. Incredible boss theme Alex!
Alex really should be hired by them already. He has such amazing composition skills, and his music sounds like it fits right in with the worlds he makes it for; really, his music reminds me of Nobuo Uematsu's work through the years.
I agree although I think he needs to learn to tone things down sometimes because I feel like sometimes his amazing melodies suffer by all the other things happening at the same time

I can sort of understand how composers work for games a little bit now. Always had no idea how they even began with creating a theme

For a hypothetical Town theme I’m hearing in my head the sort of thing a bard might play so mainly string based, particularly a slow and gentle cello as you wander around and explore the town after a fierce adventure in the wild. 🤔
String based with some percussion, primarily piano, I think!
Maybe a more upbeat but still dark tone in the beginning, but a much more demure and melancholic version after the time skip
This is actually sooooooo fkin cool. The way you have melody jump between brass, violin, and piano, and that modulation into unison is so sickkkkkk

But seriously, this was absolutely amazing as always! You're seriously so good at capturing the tone of the series while adding your own flare!
Also just noticed the name of the song, "Pierce the Heavens!", with definite inspiration from "Torn from the Heavens" in there. That's SO GOOD.
Amazing as always, Alex! ngl, i was kinda moved by this piece because to me it sounds like a love letter for all of the composers of the series that came before. Truly amazing stuff, man! I hope they let you work on the game's soundtrack for real.
Pierce the Heavens is exciting, heroic and powerful! I can feel so much emotion every measure and your original work Alex, is outstanding for the Final Fantasy series direction in video game music. I think the town themes will be suspenseful but have a couple of catchy melodic themes to balance the new experience. I think you are on to something in that a soloist instrumentalist could perform in many tracks to tell the story. For example the tank character in the party his/her main instrument could be played by a bass instrumentalist 🙂
Love hearing the FFXIV influences like at 4:22 from the “Song of Hope” and 4:29 from the shadowbringers theme
Dude PLEASE make this a series. Considering we’re getting no new for FF16 at the moment this video really hyped me up, and I would love to see more because you’re absolutely incredible at composing. As for what the town themes could be, I’d say that would be very dependent on what town your in, where allied towns would have a softer feel, and rival towns would have more of edge to them. Either way, keep it up man!

Town Themes for FF games have often been sleepy and, at times, dull. A good FF town theme is one that hooks you with the town's personality instantly. FF6 and 7 do this the best, I feel. Zozo in FF6 especially, but 'the Day After' compared to "Kids run through the street' sets a great vibe for the towns. FF7's town music manages to have a recognizable personality for each place.
No matter where you are, there's always a kind of slow, sleepy pace in an FF town. It's gotta be chill, but there's no "generic" town music in FF that stands out, each town's personality has to get you immediately. A "first impression" if you will, needs to be made.

As for town themes, perhaps it's because Lazy Afternoons is THE town theme for me, I'm imagining something that sounds like that, but with perhaps the melody you constructed here. :D

Even if the tracks weren't able to be in the game proper, there's certainly strong potential for you to get your compositions into any DLC additions for the game if the tracks you create gain enough attention. And that's bound to happen with how thirsty we are for any information or content about FFXVI at this point. XD Lol. I was literally just thinking a couple hours ago that it had been a little while since your last upload, that theme was amazing, I would love the actual boss theme in FF16 to sound like that!

Hey, I don't know much about FF since I never played any of their games, but I'd definitely love this series to keep going. Just your soundtracks alone offer so much information that it keeps me inspired to write music. The reaction videos and tutorials are just diamonds and gold for a newbie like me.

I would love an orignal sound track made by Soken and Alex, for Final Fantasy but for 1 Special battle that is registered as an easter egg.

For a town theme, I would think they might do a cross of like rustic down to earth tones- to give a sense of dynamic energy with a touch of melancholy- with a hammered dulcimer, flute and lyre; some opulence for those who are doing well, maybe represented by harps or bells; and then something out of left field to add that touch of uniqueness with each town- bagpipes, ukulele, a xaphoon or a morin khuur.
of course that also depends on where the town is situated. a farming or logging town that's inland might have more abundant woodwinds and strings to add to the rustic lifestyle, while a coastal trade town might have more exotic instruments to represent the melding of cultures passing through, and a mining town might have a lot more brass because of the abundant metals.
All epic compositions deserve a choir version. Keep up the good work, Alex!!

To answer your question. Imo the tone would be a bit darker, kinda like a mix of a heroic and a dark track. Would suit the overall theme of getting revenge and the MC´s goal to break the cycle.

This *definitely* feels like a Final Fantasy track, so I think you nailed it. There's one segment that reminds me a little bit of a track in FFXIV Endwalker but....yeah, this was fantastic.

Honestly I will be surprised if you don't get at least a commission from SE to score a future FF game. You have such an amazing love and understanding of the sound of the games, and the ability to create your own tracks based on that.
You asked about town music, but there's not really a lot of information out there about towns for XVI yet. Based on the descriptions of the kingdoms on the official site, the only one that I can think of anything for is the Iron Kingdom. Based on its description, I expect that the town (or city) music for that region will be low and understated. Probably a minor key, with a feeling of tension, almost like it's holding its breath. I can't *hear* it in my head (since that's not how my brain works), but I can imagine the feeling of it.
My dream is that you compose a whole soundtrack for an Final Fantasy Game. Please square enix. Give this man a chance. You’re awesome Alex.

Very cool. I imagine it would be better during gameplay where I'm not as focused on it, but just listening to it on its own, there's nothing in there that really wowed me or anything, but it's still a solid song.

awesome track, really hype. I think i'd like it even more if it had another even crazier phase, 'cause i kept expecting the song to like, release? all the energy it certainly builds! . Also, i expect a lot of acoustic guitars or similar instruments on the town themes of the game. I feel like those work so well on medieval settings :B
I imagine the tone for FF16 music to be much like the tone of Endwalker music, often sombre with a bit of hope layered in. For example the Town Theme in Endwalker "Those we Can Yet Save" feels like the vibe I would expect to get while wandering around a quaint village or town in FF16, but even more toned down. Music that sets a mood is music you rarely forget.

I loooove it, if I were to compose something like this I would sneak in the Final Fantasy prelude/Crystal theme at 3:57 and have that break or fade away as the violins take over and the action kicks in.

As far as town themes go for FFXVI, I am absolutely excited for them if the Awakening trailer is any indication. Even though the grand orchestral battle theme is the one that most people seem to discuss - my favorite track from that trailer is the variation of the Final Fantasy Theme which starts at 54sec in, and sounds almost baroque and gothic with the strings. I'm hoping Rosaria retains that slightly haunted feeling because gothic FF is something I am absolutely here for! (Fingers crossed for a FFXIV x Bloodborne crossover one day lol)

Honestly considering this is going to be a dark fantasy game, i'm expecting boss themes to be a lot of orchestras, but maybe that's just the fromsoftware vibe lol, we'll see when it comes out, good job on this tho it sounds amazing.
That's just the From Software vibe, there are many musical styles that work well with Dark Fantasy aside from orchestral music. But this is a Final Fantasy game so it'll fit anyway.

This has been my most anticipated game since they first showed it. Even after all of this time, now the thought of dynamic battle and boss music with this style Alex is putting on it, holy shit!
Got to say, my Hat is off to you sir. Not sure how long did you composed this, but I can definitely picture this music as part of a boss encounter.
And yes if you are up to it keep imagining tracks for upcoming games. Who knows it may serve as a portfolio for an actual project with a game developer. Not sure if you have previously but hey. I'd say it's a great quality content.
