Thanks for coming to Ireland man I’m from Ireland so it’s pleasing to see people from the UK go to an Irish football match
Thank you for coming
I was at the match limbs in the south stand what a game gaffney goal brilliant and even met thodgdad after the match what a night and its my birthday 💚🤍🇮🇪⚽️
Hi thogden what made you go to this match? anyways your welcome back anytime
Thanks for coming. You're welcome back any time
Thanks for bringing attention to football in Ireland . Unfortunately most people prefer to watch teams in England like Liverpool and united from their couch but videos like this encourage them to support their local team and watch football as it shows what exactly their missing out on
Never said it better 🙌
People who rather watch football the tv show are missing out on an awful lot 👍
Ridiculously amazing atmosphere!

Where in Ireland you from
Yep. Sad reality. I see people blame the FAI for holding back Irish football which is partially true but people bandwagoning on English clubs held it back even more.
Respect to thogden trying to make Irish football more well known and more respected by the people the EA and the other people above in football ⚽️ 🇮🇪

My club (PAOK) played against Bohemians in the summer for the conference league qualifiers and when we played them in Greece I managed to talk to some people from the club that came for the game, lovely people, really hope Irish football will get the recognition it deserves
PS: they actually beat us in the first game 2-1, then we won 2-0, and now we are almost through to thw last 8 of the competition, this shows that maybe the level in Ireland isn’t as low as people may think
And we won at the aviva only to lose to you guys in greece and stop us going to the conference leageue
I was at the aviva leg, good scenes but a shame we didn't go through
Bohs is owned by the fans. And every penny is managed. Also do lots of projects for the local community. I'm not a bohs fan myself. I'm Saint Patrick

Best of luck with rest of the Tournament.

It’s always great to see Irish football getting the attention it deserves and for it to be on such a big channel is a deadly sight to see I hope this won’t be the last time I’ll see it on here

They always cheat
When I went to university here in Germany, two Irish lads came for a visit in the house I lived in. They were not just following the Premier League like most of the Irish (and the German 3rd tier which surprised me), they were also enjoying their local Irish clubs. One of them was a Drogheda United supporter, the other was into Shelbourne. Very friendly and decent people.
Interesting fact Damian Duff former Chelsea, Newcastle Utd, player is now in charge of newly promoted Shelbourne who have a new owner who is putting some investment...
A few things about the League of Ireland:
1/ The season runs from February to November. Last Friday's match was Rovers' 5th and Bohs' 4th league games of the season. Sligo vs Bohs on the opening weekend was postponed due to weather
2/ The most successful team is Shamrock Rovers with 19 league titles and 25 FAI Cup wins. They are chasing a 20th league title and European group stage football this year
3/ The league is seen to have a lack of quality. This is down to comparisons being made with the Premier League. Most football fans in Ireland support Liverpool, Man United or Celtic. In an interview before the draw for the group stage of the 2016/2017 Europa League, Stephen Kenny (current Ireland manager) said he didn't want Dundalk to draw Man United because it would've meant two away games.
4/ RTE (Irish national broadcaster) has the rights to the League of Ireland. It is only televising 18 games all season, 14 league, 3 men's cup (including final) and the women's cup final. Three Irish teams reached the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League last year (Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk). They wouldn't show any of their matches as it would interfere with coverage of the Olympics. Shamrock Rovers reached the play off round and the second leg against Flora Tallinn was only televised because they were contractually obligated.
5/ There is little support from the FAI. Under John Delaney's premiership the LOI was seen as a 'problem child' and funding (including European and domestic prize money) was withheld from clubs. Too many clubs have gone under in the last 20 year (Kildare County, Kilkenny City, Dublin City, Sporting Fingal, Mervue United, Salthill Devon and Monaghan United to name a few). Almost every club has also faced an existential financial crisis in that time, including both Bohs and Rovers.
6/ There is a huge level of camaraderie between fans of all clubs when it comes to European games. While Man City and Liverpool fans want to see each other lose in Europe, Rovers and Bohs fans, for the most part, want to see each other's clubs go through. I heve never heard of this anywhere else in Europe. The best example of this was Dundalk in the Champions League playoffs in 2016 against Legia Warsaw. Over 30 thousand people turned up to cheer them on at the Aviva with fans wearing any assortment of LOI club tops. I seen Dundalk (obviously), Bohs, Rovers, St Pats, Cork City, Galway United and Finn Harps fans just near where I was sitting.
7/ Attendances are on the up all around the league. Bohs sold out season tickets, Rovers sold over 3.5k STs. The match between St Pats and Rovers the week before in Richmond Park was, like Rovers and Bohs, sold out days beforehand. Drogheda vs UCD was also sold out. In the second tier over 5k were at Cork City, Galway United and Waterford both sold out. The FAI Cup final in November between Bohemians and St Pats had nearly 40 thousand at it. For comparison, in 2012 there was only 17 thousand at it.
The league is on the up and I'd encourage you and anyone else visiting to try and get to a match if you can.
I will run naked round Tallaght if a Stephen Bradley managed team gets to the group stage of either of the big two Euro comps this season.
What do you mean Mervue United went under? They still exist, also, Dublin City???
@@daithire why did they withdraw from the league? Financial reasons? Just naming examples of clubs that have recently left the league
@@Dubliner-un9lw I wasn't aware they were a professional club
@@daithire they joined the first division for a couple of seasons alongside Salthill Devon.
All 3 Galway sides were in the First Division at the same time and all played at Terryland Park
Thanks for coming man it’s really a shame the lack of investment in the league and millions of Irish not supporting their local and instead supporting Liverpool and United
And y would u bother

Thanks so much for coming over, you've nearly given it us as much coverage as our television companies 🤣 Next derby you're at over here you should come down to Drogheda in the summer when we play Dundalk in a fierce Louth derby. If you're around in November especially the biggest game in Irish football is the FAI cup final in the Aviva with 30k - 40k people at them, atmosphere matches that of South America it's insane. I live in New York but am from Dublin and my mother is from Kerry, me and my family go back every summer, and we always make sure to see a Rovers game. Last time I was there was two years ago and there was no football, but three years ago I watched Rovers smash Drogheda 5-0. Spurs are my team, but I love to watch local teams, so I support NYCFC over here, who beat CF Montreal 4-1. I went to Philadelphia to watch them play in the Eastern Conference Final, the MLS is so underrated, it was a great atmosphere there.
Fantastic fan. As a Cork City fan it's always great to see the league being promoted.
I've been to the Dublin derby once before and and as a neutral I can say its the best atmosphere I've ever experienced.
Keep up the good work

Great vlog Theo. delighted to see you enjoyed it. Great recognition for the league👏
Please go to more, Im Irish and i love these games and would like the league to get bigger. I also would love for you to go to see a longford town game as they're my favourite irish club
Shelbourne 1 of the biggest clubs in Irish Football (and Dublin) and the government wants to demolish our ground Tolka Park. The Save Tolka Park Movement is in full swing and everyone should give it support. Irish Football is elite and should be treated as such. Thanks for bringing eyes to the League

As I’m partly Irish and Scottish I wanna say thankyou!! Thanks for putting Scottish and Irish football under attention as an Englishman yourself. It may not be as good, big, spectaculair and modern as English football, but here it’s still ‘the peoples’ game.
That’s what football makes so classy in those countries. No big money,no big investors, no new hightech stadiums. Just a pitch, a ball and fans with passion who love their club. Class again Lads, hope you had a nice stay 🏴🇮🇪👋🏼
Great comments, most of us English are not like those in power, especially in the north. My sister lives in Kilkenny and have a place in west cork,my favourite place to visit , really like Cork as a city and Dublin, would like to see Galway and Limerick , liked Waterford.
@@Tigerland1962 Get your ass to a Cork City game next time you're around. Four and a half thousand again last night at a First Division game, same last week against Galway and a great atmosphere at both games. We've been down in the dumps for the last year or two but we're on the way back !!

As someone from Ireland 🇮🇪 this video is perfect for Irish football it is exactly what it needs a bit of attention from creators as country so driven on hurling and Gaelic which you should go and see it’s mind blowing you should go to more Irish game as Dundalk are playing shamrock rovers in Dundalk in a week or 2 soccer is huge in Ireland every kid plays it but kids from Ireland just want to support your likes of man united and Liverpool because they are top teams but they don’t support their local like your rovers and your Dundalk please like so thogden and thogdad can see it
Really do not waste your time going to see Gaelic Football or Hurling. The former is awful, the latter scarcely better.
Hurling is the fasted field game in the world the world very entertaining

You have to go to Dalymount (Bohemians home ground) for the return fixture. As for the game, we were not clinical enough. To be fair, our best player this season, Promise Omochere, was super harshly sent off last game after a dive by a Finn Harps player, and the manager Keith Long us after losing his mother so that mightve played a part. But still, not clinical enough. Credit to rovers though, they were so much better, they should've been 2 or 3 nil up at the end.
