    This video is a bit different from what I made before. These videos do take a lot of time and so they will always be about whatever I am interested about in that moment. This time, it is the Syrian civil war, and my goal was to make a short video that provides all the information important to understand the basic conflicts. I know that it is a controversial topic, and I tried to keep this video as neutral and informative as possible. It is not complete, the war is very complex, but I tried to provide a good starting point for everyone to do further research.
    I named the series of this video "Mapped" because I will explain a lot from satelitte perspective. Note that this is heavily influenced by the ARTE series "Mit offenen Karten", which you can check out here:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMEC5...
    Also make sure you check out Aeham Ahmad, the syrian piano player featured in this video:
    www.aeham-ahmad.com/en/
    I am also starting a twitter channel where I will post additional maps and statistics to the topics of my videos. Starting with the next video:

      The video summarizes and reinforces myths and untruths about the situation. It is misleading and lends itself to the original anti-Syria narrative, employed by vested-interest groups, to weaken the land and conquer it outright.
      The overall narrative claims are often so outrageous, illogical and counter-intuitive they insult the audience, but more importantly do a gravely serious disservice to the millions of people caught up in the horrors. Misreporting could easily intensify the conflict and suffering. Then again, incorrect reports led to invasion of Iraq, and country's collapse and coming of i.s.i.s. that are still being dealt with today, with massive costs.

      I have to ask... how many of these "refugees" could have picked up an AK and made the future they wanted happen? And why should my brothers be forced to die in a far off foreign land for them to have the future they couldn't be bothered to fight for?

    • @ahkeelyu
      @ahkeelyu Před 7 lety +6

      That's exactly what the rebel groups are: Syrian citizens who are standing up to Assad's violent slaughter.
      I'm not sure who your brothers are but right now there's basically no boots on the ground from foreign countries aside from the most elite special forces, and that's how it's going to stay until the conflict ends. This is for two reasons: first there's no political will to put boots on the ground, and second it would backfire due to how invasive it appears, as it did in Iraq with the birth of ISIS.

    Please explain to me the difference between rebels & terrorists. Seems when we like the the regime that is in power - opposition would be called terrorists, & when we want to overthrow that regime these same people are called rebels, would this assumption be correct? I say this due to reports that at the start of the "crisis" in Syria, the US supported rebels were in large part made of converts from terrorist group alqaeda.

We USA,NATO agree currently helping these pigs because we want to run a pipeline that will cut Russia's economy in half since Europe gets their energy from Russia. Remember how Obama said he would keep US troops out of Syria, but would not stand for any use of chemical weapons, next thing you know chemicals weapon are used in Syria. The planned invasion grinds to a halt once the chemicals are traced back to the US - all reports/news seem to mysteriously die of in the mainstream media. Following the event in the 911 aftermath, remember how anthrax packages were going around being delivered in the mail. News at the time was suspecting it was ongoing terrorism being perpetrated against a frightened american public, once the anthrax was traced back to US labs the story faded way from the mainstream media.
      Seems there is a pattern here.
      What do we know about al-assad that has not come from the mainstream media? - the videos I have seem from the people who live their mostly have positive modern views of al-assad, but I do not really know him either, What i do know is there 2 sides to every story, and one side seems to provide more of a narrative than any real news.

    • @ndaofe16
      @ndaofe16 Před 7 lety +12

      rob paq actually those reports of Assad using chemical weapons are FAKE. There is a NATO detective (its a female woman last name pier or Pierre I forgot the article I read) and German Intel that said he didn't do it. It was an unknown group (I'm more than certain it was a top USA group). Reason why I think that so we can start war in Syria.

    • @robpaq4191
      @robpaq4191 Před 7 lety +3

      The founding fathers were some of the wisest men ever assembled (I wonder what the English called them?). Their is no comparing them to today's so called "rebels". I ask what is the difference? The same people who made al-quida (terrorist), switch sides to become ISIS (the first rebel group, who are now deemed terrorist again when they stopped complying with the west), the same people switch sides a second time to become "Syrian liberal army" and are deemed rebels.
      I do not understand how you think blindly following what you are told is somehow helping?.....Really, tell that to the MILLIONS that are now dead, those that are dying,and those willing to strap on a bomb or worse. How many millions more must die so you can be right and show just how much you care?

      Easy to say for you, behind your desktop. If they stay and defeat IS they will die eventually in the proxy war between Europe/US and Russia. It's more complicated than "simply fight IS". Because of your governments interference in this conflict, you should accept the consequences of this proxy war. And these consequences are also refugees that come to your country. • @101jir
      @101jir Před 7 lety

      I wouldn't separate wars so strictly into resource VS politics. Resource wars are usually about reducing a rival's access to resources just as much as it is about increasing a faction's own. Political wars are going to at least involve resources on a strategic and/or tactical level as much as possible.
      As Clausewitz once said, "war is politics by other means." There is another quote that goes hand-in-hand with this (don't remember who), "amateurs discuss tactics, professionals discuss logistics."
      Conquests where one government takes the land controlled by another sovereign faction that it has no existing tension are much more rare in the last number of centuries, most recent case being the beginning of conflicts with the Native Americans, but very quickly thereafter genuine culture clashes started. The scramble for Africa would be another case. Other than that, most cases have been against factions where tensions were genuinely high for political reasons. And, whenever possible, resources were used to increase the power of a country while weakening their enemies.
      Resources are typically the means, and politics is typically the ends. Of course, resources often have a secondary role in the ends, after the destruction or humiliation of a rival.

    I often feel powerless to offer any support. You asked what would make people take notice. I think it's a messy, overwhelming problem that most people have no clue where to start to help so they turn a blind eye. Usually, when there's a world catastrophe, people send money or you can go and help rebuild, offer food, wash clothes etc. How do you help ungoverned, displaced people that you cant reach?

    • @thisrandomdude2880
      @thisrandomdude2880 Před 6 lety +1

      L CM Well in Lebanon many companies have made deals with the Syrian government to rebuild many of the cities on the coast, my father being an architect in one of those companies. They work on clinics, hospitals and on the reconstruction of destroyed bulidings. The situation has changed since and I think that if more countries did this it would be easier for Syrians that way. Over here we consider the Assad regime to be the most quote on quote "legitimate" power in Syria since they officially represent the state in the international community as well as being the most stable one of the bunch. Moreover sending humanitarian aid, maybe volunteering if you have any medical experience and if you are brave enough would give the people there such a breather.

    "What is Aleppo?"

      What he said on that later was that when the reporter asked that he thought it was an acronym he asked about. Not a good excuse though.

      He was a ploy so that nobody would vote "third" party and be forced to choose between Hillary (who stole her nomination) and Trump (who Hillary stole the nomination for). If you listen to him talk 8 years ago he wasn't this utterly stupid
