India is not overpopulated. South Korea and Bangladesh are. You have to look at the population density. South Korea has a higher population density than India. Bangladesh has a population density that is 2.5x more than India. "Overpopulation" only occurs if the land area cannot support the population.

Also, I feel that population growth is explosive in the poor category because they have more than 2 child per couple where as elite and educated have less than 2. My sample size could be wrong, but this is what I feel.

The average delivery expenses in hyderabad (at some decent hospital )is 1 lac .
First birthday expenses will be minimum 2 lacs to 8 lacs .(depends on family prestige ).
    School fees every body knows.
Two kids means must and should they have car .
Salary never depends on no of kids or married or unmarried and income is not guaranteed.

Western, southern and far north states have TFR below 2.0 which is below replacement rate.
On the other hand, poor BIMARU states like UP, Bihar, Jharkhand have high TFR and its these states that will drive up the population.
This may lead to heavy migration from these states to other parts of india and we may see ethnic conflicts/tensions in the future.

Mostly people don't talk about this until they're older and when they're older it's all influenced by others' ideologies and other pressure from relatives which is why it's important to educate children and keep them informed about this from the beginning so that they can be in their right mind when and if they get married in the future and want to have a family, keeping the environment in mind.

I believe a country is over populated if it cannot grow food to feed its population. No food imports. land and resources use produces enough food to feed the population and also absorb environmental shocks. This is how ecosystems work in nature the optimum is achieved over various ecological shocks and resource usage.
