      Well, that’s just how it is. VFX artists generally are unnamed to to public, unless someone does a real deep dive on them in the credits. But, I would also say that without Andy serkis’s performance and his acting, even with the greatest model in the world, Gollum wouldn’t be what he is. These guys are just able to transform that performance into beautiful CGI. But in film production you learn that technical achievement always comes secondary to content

    This is insane detailing.. the work on Gollum in the hobbit is i think the best CG work in the history of film.. Lord of the rings gollum was much naive compared to this.. This is absolutely life like .. and the best part is they can capture 100% of Andy's performance and expressions .. plus amazing rendering and compositing.. The more i see Hobbit's CG the better i feel .. they are so earthly .. one can hardly distinguish it from real .. and they mix prosthetics with CG which is great. prosthetics can never bring out performance . the digital hedgehog in radagast's arm was insanely real. i always thought that was real until they revealed in the commentary ..

      @@filipelucciano So what?! I work in the industry for 20 years now. I think most people visiting this channel have a CG related job.
      The effects in the Hobbit weren't worse than the effects in LoTR. In fact they were improved quite a lot.
      What made The Hobbit look 'weird' is the fact that it was filmed at 48fps and you also might not like the movies as much because it had a lot less action and is a less interesting story.
      But the CGI was at least at the same level as LoTR.

    • @filipelucciano
      @filipelucciano Před 3 lety

      @@Capeau I don't know man... The fact that LOTR used real mockups made it look better... Can't explain why but in wide shots it works better. Not only in The Hobbit. I agree with the fps thing. What I'm trying to say is that CGI is great... but it stops looking great when u overdo it. Like, u need to do CGI with Gollum, Smaug... Even with Azog. But that barrel scene was crap. Using CGI when u could use prosthetics makes it ehhh...
