I was there in the back when she gave this speech... SO INSPIRATIONAL! I'm teaching AVID for the first time this year and WOW! It's a lot of work. I needed to hear this (again) because both my students and I need to know WHY we're in this, and why we're in this together. Faith has brought us together. Half of them are failing. But I'm hoping I'm there with them for a reason. I know I can get them into shape, now they just need to know why. Listening to this again, I think my students can find commonality and hope this kicks them into gear. It's not about why they need to go to college... rather about who are they going to college for... and I'm hoping maybe this will help them realize why they need to stick it through. Great job, Maryam! Truly inspirational!
