That underhand full court pass at 1:01 was just done by Lamelo ball not too long ago and people are saying it is the greatest pass they have never seen. Well pistol Pete did it.
The MAJORITY of NBA games in the 1970's weren't even televised. Hell the FINALS were aired TAPED DELAYED!!! If it was covered as it is today, we'd have tons more Pistol highlights to enjoy.
Beginning of the age of pizzaz. Pete lived ate and slept basketball. Amazing skills before injuries stopped him. If he were on a top team with the 3point shot, might have been the best ever.
Those great passes should have been great assissts, but nobody could make a shot except Dr.J...And who was dribbling like that back then? Such authority and ease #handles
Maravich averaged 44 pts per game during his college career. A calculation was done that if there were a 3-point line in college during Maravich's time, he would have averaged ~66 pts per game. In my opinion, his college scoring record will never be broken!!
Michael Farotto According to the article I read, the calculation that was done with the computer program was 66 pts/game. Either way, this will be one college record that will never be broken!

Yeah, that pass is just unreal. Over half court, underhand, with English, and dead on target. Wow!

NBA got no respect then. I remember Sports Illustrated had a small story in the back of the magazine when the Warriors swept the Bullets in '74.
As well as the DOC 😯
@Aaron D. Digby, Sr. Oh yeah, great basketball was played then but it was a different game with different rules...or at least the way game was called.
Maravich and Erving would've been a great combination..
His passing skills were so sick!. Just great player period!.
Nobody in today's NBA passes the ball or have the advanced court vision Pete has...
So many times it seems like:
Maravich has the ball.
Ball disappears into a parallel universe.
Ball reappears in hands of teammate.
My favorite player.
This is the guy that influenced Larry birds passing game
he was amazing
Incredible!!!! The white chocolate Jason Williams of the past
0:35, 2:21, 5:32 & 6:37 These were all during his 68-point game against the Knicks in the NOLA Superdome in ‘77
Beginning of the age of pizzaz. Pete lived ate and slept basketball. Amazing skills before injuries stopped him. If he were on a top team with the 3point shot, might have been the best ever.
Higher up on the list, anyway.
a mad ahead of his time
Legendary moves!
The greatest combo in basketball was pistol and dr J
he was so good at putting the ball to where you were going if he were not such a great scorer he would have been the best point ever
Imagine Pete and Lenny Wilkins (East ASG) in the backcourt. The other players would only have to run and get open. Amazing passers.
Those great passes should have been great assissts, but nobody could make a shot except Dr.J...And who was dribbling like that back then? Such authority and ease #handles
Underrated!
No doubt.
he's only underrated because of the time he played in ( the 70's) if he played in the late 80's - 90's he would be talked about more.
@@larsulrichstalent5914 most copied player of all time. It's hard to believe in 2019 players are still trying get to copy pistol pete
The original Magic..
These are some of his rare highlights, most of his footage doesn't exist
It's interesting to see that the only player who never let him down & was in total sync was dr j
Imagine if they continued to play together after the Atlanta Hawks 1972 preseason.
Outstanding and fun to match.
That "CH" at the end of the last name does magic even today in the world of sports. Lobg live my south Slavic brothers and sisters.
Pete did his part. A lot of missed layups by his team mates
Because of solid defense why many of these plays didn't finish.
Pete was too sweet for the brothers, they could not finish the play.
Many of these plays just ran into superb wall of defense.
Why would anyone dislike this
Money
It's spelled J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y
watch where his teammates catch his passes. always where they needed them
players you can make them look fantastic stacked is he only need a great players like Dr J he is the goat
Did anybody else notice the teammates blew his assists more than they finished ?
Yes. Most of his career he played with guys who were so far below his skills. High school and college must have been even worse! :)
Yup, lou hudson himself admitted that they intentionally let pistol's passes go out of bounds to make him look bad.
@@ernesthader1109 That's so wrong of them smh. Where'd you read or see this?
Greatest scorer, and maybe the best passer of all-time. Stockton would be right there with him.
Mike Williams Magic was a great passer, no doubt.
No one matches Bob Cousy passing !
Bird was the best passer.
@@mikewilliams6339 Magic admits he was using the ideas of the Pistol...give the man his due...Maravich was an innovator.
@@Head318Hunter Bird picked up a lot from Maravich also...some of the passes he makes were from the Pistol's playbook.
Legend
One of the best players ever to play basketball , he has Serbian ancestry. ...:)
I keep saying it I'm a massive fan but let's be honest he was and is the greatest player that ever played
@@glenngibbs1267 you are either stubborn, crazy or just dumb. He Was a great player but Definitely not close to being the best

and there's like 3 recorded and saved games you can watch him in from all those years???
Audio tax cut out I'm talking about Pete maravich he is the goat

Cliff Lawrence I hate his pro career was not as significant as his collegiate career. Either way he changed the game in his own way!
Video should be retitled “NBA: Worst Teammate Moments”
They smoked damn near all of his assists🤦🏾♂️
He did Jordan and Magic before Jordan and Magic!!!
How you can put Harden above pete, please
The doctor and Arabic the most dangerous combo in NBA history
Imagine if Will Ferrell invited the alley-opp a decade earlier
Never seen passes, unless you were at the game.
1:02 where all began that pass before LaMelo.
1:16
60 nice passes... 8 assists. Pretty much sums up his career.
OH I DIDN'T KNOW HALL OF FAMERS WERE ELECTED ON EIGHT ASSISTS MR. JEALOUS!!

Pistol is too fast for some of the announcers here
And too fast for his teammates .
Look! They called for traveling! Does that even exist anymore?

They just updated the list of top 50 players of all-time and they dropped Pete from the list. What?
Any top 50 players list that does not have Pistol on it is a total FRAUD. Fifty players better than Maravich? NO WAY.
A man so great that he was bored with the game. That top 50 without him is a total FRAUD.
😳
if he had great teammates like Jordan he would have been top 7 players all time
That's some very high praise right there
Only if he has better teammates...so many of the passes that his teammates just can't finish.
The people he passes to are not that clinical in their finish unfortunately.
Sorry maravich
A lot of great passes, but a lot of failed finishes
Jesus Loves you and wants you to accept him as your Lord and saviour
Back when there was still a lot of white people in the game.
Their was a lot of black players to
I'd say it was still 60% black compared to today's 75%
