Technically, Stefan gave that necklace to Elena to protect her from Damon and from himself. "I wanted to protect you from Damon's influence. But I also wanted to...protect you from me." It's protecting her from Stefan's influence in season 8. He's out of his mind if he thinks Damon is gonna let her go the same way he did.
Damon was the perfect fit to escort Elena because it was a pageant she signed up for with her mother. Pearl was no less a mother than Caroline, and Stefan wanted to keep her sealed in the tomb. Just as fitting for him to get tortured by the very vampires he wanted kept in the tomb because he felt their lives were of lesser value than his. Elena saw something in Damon that no one else did, not even his own brother. In the end, love really did conquer all. Not even Ripper Stefan and Sybil combined could tear down what Damon and Elena built. They're a power couple.

We are now on S8...Damon is fighting for Elena even with Sybil trying to wipe her very existence from his brain he cannot shake her even if he wanted to. JaredLeto IsLife Delena has been written for over a course of 6 seasons full of EPIC memories....For all their dysfunction DE still managed to win the people's vote ie Best couple/Best chemistry...SE ain't touching what DE has/have even if Dobrev chooses not to show up for the finale.
Their love story is one of the most developed love stories ever seen on a TV series....SE was all about love at first sight/dopplegangers drawn by the universe/not challenging whatsoever....When Elena was with Stefan she regressed...she didn't grow as a person...she was always whiny and her life was like a never ending funeral....she even admitted that Stefan made her feel as if she were a problem needing to be fixed.
With Damon he challenged her, made her question her beliefs, made her feel more alive, had her accept the darkest parts of herself and found her way to loving to be a vampire...she grew as a person...not as dependent and more confident...she was no longer the insecure teenage girl needing to be protected when her parents died. The universe was against them not for them and they overcame every obstacle to be together...their relationship is full of dysfunction, challenges, hardships, passion, love...which is what makes it REAL.
It's been said that TVD is all about the story of Elena falling in love with Damon....it was bound to happen and anyone who refused to take notice suffered due to their own delusions...apparently you still are.😂

On the island Elena was so afraid of losing Damon she wanted him to take the cure and I quote "be together, die old together, this doesn't have to be hard anymore."
She saw her future with Damon and only Damon...She blew herself up to die WITH Damon because she didn't want him to die alone, when Damon died she went over the edge...she started hallucinating with herbs because she couldn't bare the thought of not seeing him...she had Alaric compel her memories away because it was literally killing her living without Damon....Even with the memories gone and of only her and Stefan being together once....She NEVER went back to him...so again explain how she felt the same way about Stefan when she had every opportunity to get back with him once she decided to compel her memories of ever loving Damon?

It's interesting in this season how Stefan has become season 1 Damon and vice-versa.

i'm so glad caroline is finally fighting for delena. stelena in my opinion is boring, and a waste of time. that epic love story means nothing when a couple is that boring. i'm so glad damon is remembering bits and pieces of elena. that proves that only she can trigger his humanity.

delena never had boring moments. when i mean boring i'm talking about how stelena got together so fast. that's so boring. damon and elena at least took about 4 seasons to get together, and then they had problems, and when they officially got together in season 5 they still had obstacles to overcome. stelena acted all soppy every single episode saying stuff like 'i was so worried about u' or 'i hate fighting for u'. i normally don't mind that but when they act like that in nearly episode it gets to much. i don't ship a lot of couples because couples who are in relationship bore me. delena excites me.
@Jlisa25 i hated season five for many reasons... i was going through a painful ordeal while that season aired & what happened to DE just made it worse... i've noticed many people have refused to watch tvd live ever since it became "Bonnie this, BD that" Diaries... talk about an otp which "imposes" on the viewers while they themselves aren't "ready" to watch it...
omg people are being more and more stupid. the ratings never went down because of delena. delena was very popular. they won more awards then stelena. if u look at season 1 the ratings were the highest it could go and then it kept going down season by season. in the middle of season 5 is when it really dropped but how do u know it's not because of the crappy writing. it doesnt make sense why the ratings would of went down when delena got together. i'm pretty sure half the stelena fans still kept watching hoping for stelena to get back together. it is a love triangle after all. it was still possible for stelena to end up together. when elena chose stefan i still kept watching hoping for delena to be endgame.

Elena fell for Damon on her birthday while Stefan chose to play ripper with Klaus. He's just proving she made the right choice by the way he acts in this scene. Like a manchild, only magnified. Damon is done playing the vampire. Stefan might as well go it alone... as he should've 145 years ago instead of forcing Damon to turn. The point, and the very reason Stefan dies. Elena brought Damon back to his 1864 self.

She fell for damon because the sirebond hightened her feelings for damon. The elena we fell in love with in season 1-3 chose stefan and would always choose stefan. But then she died and became a totally diffrent person, Selfish, self centerd and entitled and that's the elena that choose damon. And please how was stelena predictable they had challenges like him wanting to die because of all the guilt he felt, elena overcoming the death of her perants, him being a ripper, katherine, damon always coming in the middlen him not having his humanity, gettting dragged away from her to save his brother. Delena was just them fighting about the horrible things he did and then having sex. In the first season i get why people shipped them caus ethey were actually intresting to watch together but when they were actually a copuple it was the most boring predictable thing and both damon and elena where just annoying people.
lena keeks Elena’s feelings for Damon had nothing to do with being sired. As the show already comfirmed sire bonds only happen when the vampire has feelings for her sire....HUMAN feelings.
By S3...Elena already had feelings for Damon which is why the sire bond was formed in the first place....if you want to go down that route let's not twist what the show already confirmed seasons ago.
Elena started to fall for Damon ever since 2x22... she told Alaric in 6x02 that her birthday in 3x01 was the day she fell in love with him when he returned her necklace back to her which was a reminder of Stefan... in 3x02, Damon said "when i drive my brother from the edge & deliver him back to you, i want you to remember the things you felt while he was gone..."

“You deserve someone who gives you the world. Someone who can’t wait to wake up and start a new adventure, with you. Not a guy who’s 2,000 miles away, seeking revenge, over you.”
Caroline’s mouth twitched and she pulled away, tears suddenly forming in her eyes.
“I’m never gonna find that guy.” She sniffled. “I’m just not good enough.” She said, a sob escaping her throat.
“Hey don’t say that, come here.” Damon said, wrapping his arms around Caroline. Her words echoed in his ears. “I’m never enough”, where has he heard that before. How he wished someone told him that he was, and how he wished he could tell Caroline. Damon didn’t remember when Caroline and him started becoming friends. Maybe it was when Elena first became a vampire, or a month ago when they started looking for the cure, or last week when Tyler left town to get revenge on klaus. All he knew, was that there was only one girl for him. And as Caroline let out another sob and pulled closer to him, Damon’s heart started beating uncontrollably, and at that moment he realized, it wasn’t Elena. It was Caroline.
