    Maintenance is so important so little feathered friends can enjoy clean water on a nice sunny day. Thank you. If the birds could speak, they might say they're looking forward to the next year, too, with plenty of baths at the sweet little stream you've made just for them.

    A simple and effective water pumping setup. Very nice. How I wish all that natural rock was available here.
    The daffodils are just beautiful 😊. My favorite spring flower.
    Have a good week!! 🥰♥️

    We missed this last week, so happy to see it today. ❤
    You mentioned in this week's video about the Chipping sparrows being in your area year-round lately. If you don't already, consider reporting this and your other bird visitors to Cornell University's e-bird app.
    A lot of change is happening and "e-bird" allows we "Citizen Scientists" to help monitor the changes.
    Your video postings are so special. Calming, bringing peace and a reminder of simplicity to our hearts and minds.❤❤❤

      Thank you for the remainder about eBird. I do submit reports just about daily during the warm months. Less so during the winter, because … brrr 🥶 lol. I’m a strong supporter of citizen science projects, tho. Not only do they collect important data, but they also foster a sense of involvement with nature that encourages people - like me - to start to think about the property around their homes as important habitat for the birds and other critters. Apparently the Chipping Sparrow range expansion has been wide spread enough that the range map in the latest Sibley guide was updated to show them as being year-round here.

      @@WarblerRidge yes indeed...every bit of green space is valuable. I treasure my rather small but densely wooded side lot. Wonderful birds and my sometimes pesky but always exciting Florida Black bears! During breakfast last spring, one big bold fellow pulled my best "Droll Yankee" bird feeder down and made off with it. 3yr old granddaughter was incensed, yelling "come back with my Grandmama's bird feeder!" She loves your videos, too and is already a good birder. Bring up a child in the way she should go...
      Btw, every year I have a ChuckWillsWidow show up on April 9th...uncanny!

    Loved the video. Re cleaning the pump. If you place the coffee container with pump into a painters strainer bag, it will filter out most of the silt. The bags are a tight weave nylon. I used them on my 4 sump pumps on my patio to keep the water from from entering the sliding door. My French drains couldn’t handle the amount of rain we got. The bags worked great. I hope that helps.

      I'm not familiar with painter's strainer bags. Will a lady's nylon stocking work. I've plenty of those.

      @@conniewojahn6445 I think the painters strainer bags will filter out more sediment. They are inexpensive and sold at big box stores in paint section or online store that starts with A. But using the ladies stockings would sure be worth a try since you have a bunch, maybe use a couple at a time.

    In Spring and Summer, how do you keep algae from growing in the water feature?

    • @WarblerRidge
      @WarblerRidge  Před 5 měsíci

      Funny you should ask - because I just noticed some green string algae growing in the stream this week. This water feature is located at the edge of the woods, so it will be mostly in the shade soon, when the trees leaf out, and I think the problem will go away. I think anything that’s located in the full sun all day will get some algae. One of my other water features, the bird puddle, gets full sun and doesn’t have moving water, so it definitely gets green at times. For that one, I just let it go dry for a few days and that kills the algae build up. The main bird pond is in more sun and it gets some algae on the larger rocks but there’s a pretty healthy population of snails established in that one and they help keep it under control. For the stream, I’m going to try just hosing it down and doing some partial water changes to see if I can flush it out. It will probably be at least a few more weeks here before the trees are giving much shade.

    Can you provide the link for the size of the pump and tubing you used for this?

    • @WarblerRidge
      @WarblerRidge  Před 2 dny

      I reused a pump and tubing from a previous project but I’m pretty sure the pump is a 400 gph one. I do not remember the tubing diameter. Maybe 3/4”. These pumps usually come with adapters for several different tubing sizes.
