    I really appreciate that you acknowledge some people don't like oversized blazers, so you give an alternative look.

    Love them all except I think the vest doesn’t work at all because it’s too short for you. Another inch or two would be more proportionate.

    Thank you.
    I can see that some combinations were much better than others, but watching this video makes the point that a less than ideal outfit is saved by a nice smile and good hair. That’s quite reassuring for days when I’m going outside in low temperatures, strong winds and rain, and Michelin Chic takes over 🤭

    I like your videos and have watched for quite a while. I especially appreciate that you turn all the way around, which shows your outfits from every angle. I haven't seen many fashion CZcamsrs do that and I wish they would. You give a much better perspective of the outfits by doing that and I appreciate it. Also thanks for wearing your hair in different ways. This helps those of us with short hair to have an idea of what tops might look better. Your presentations are so good. Thank you!

    I love oversized cardigans and blazers, etc. I actually think you looked really good in the puffy vest "before" pic with the cream sweater. The most dramatic change was a bit earlier in the video when you wore a black turtleneck sweater for the "after." You looked stunning in that! Have you ever done videos on what colors look best for certain skin colors? I'll take a look. TY for your fashion advice. I am now guilty of looking frumpy all the time so need a lot of help!

    What a great video! Thank you. I was so glad you included the vest. I have 4 of them now! A black, navy, white, and ivory. In different styles and lengths but I absolutely love wearing them. It can be tricky to get the proportions right But worth the effort. I especially like them for driving because they're much more comfortable without having the sleeve of a coat pulling on your arms.

    🧥Layering rule #1: Contrast close-fitting under chunky/puffy/boxy. The lengthening hack of using the same color, or at least the same value, on tops, pants and shoes to create a long thin line under a chunky statement-vest, -cardi or -jacket. I have suspicions that matching shoes to create more length is the Genesis of the denim shoe trend. Chunky sweaters or oversized jackets are classics over cat suits, pencil skirts and leggings.
    🧥Layering rule #2: Long over short or short over long; and big over small or small over big. This rule is from the 1980s and has stood the test of time. Tunics over minis or crops over maxis. The chunky, puffy, cropped vest would have been nice over long wide leg jeans, trousers or a maxi skirt with a tucked or short fitted top. Matching top and bottom color/value top and bottom could add length. Turtleneck and matching shoes could add even a little more length.
    🧥Layering rule #3: Define the waist. Taylor top layers to nip in at the waist, eliminating unnecessary fabric folds using darts and princess seams. If the top layer does not have too much fabric bunching, a belt can go over the top layer (like Diane Keaton wears). If the top is too thick it can be left open to create a vertical line with the under layers AND define the waist with a belt around the under layer. A top cropped at the waist or fully tucked in can also define the waist and make the legs appear longer. I believe I am just tired of using front tucks and half tucks to lengthen legs,; and I am frustrated that tops are not proportioned well to begin with. To me, trying to compensate by tucking a too,-long-top looks sloppy and FRUMPY. Start with a defined waist.

    Loved this Jamie!!! I especially loved the oversized blazer outfits and the puffer vest suggested outfit. I had been trying to style the oversized blazer with hooded bulky sweatshirt and just too much pouch and uncomfortably stuffy. This was a look from Pinterest that realistically is tough to wear. Your style ideas however for the blazer are much more put together and realistic, thank you!!!!

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962
    @kimberlyperrotis8962 Před 10 měsíci +17

    I tuck in all my tops/shirts/blouses/sweaters, or buy “cropped” ones, which just come to my waistband. Wearing long, loose tops out is frumpy, as are long, bulky cardigans. Too keep wearing tunic-length tops signals that one has given up on their figure and style, sorry to any who still wear this outdated style. The benefit to our visible proportions of showing the waistband far outweighs any from hiding the tummy, hips and thighs, especially with long knits that add bulk. We’re supposed to have curved tummies, hips and thighs, don’t be ashamed of them, it’s our curves that make us look feminine.

    • @yellowfuchsia1
      @yellowfuchsia1 Před 10 měsíci +16

      As a short-waisted person, I find that a top that ends a bit below my waist gives better proportions than one that is tucked in. Please also be aware that there are sometimes medical reasons for wearing loose clothing. People come in so many shapes and sizes that I don't think there is any specific rule that works for absolutely everybody. I think we should all wear what makes us feel our best and not judge other people.

    • @YourGuideToStyle
      @YourGuideToStyle  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The Amazon cardigan is longer. I'm 5'4" for reference. You may want to try it and just return if it doesn't work. You will probably need an XS.

    I have that puffer vest and haven't worn it yet, as I am having trouble finding the way to wear it. So glad you featured it in this video! I don't have a gray sweater in that color, but can do all black. Is that okay? Or is that not a good combination, will it look like an afterthought? I may have a charcoal thinner long-sleeve shirt, but only have a light gray winter boot, no dark gray. I have a sweater almost the same color as the vest though...

    It only looks better tucked in on a slim model though. Why don’t you use heavier models? You’re also short. I’m tall and overweight. Things look completely different on me. I’m not overwhelmed and drowning in loose layers.

    1st look, the vest got to go, way way too big. If it s fitted, all those pants you showed there would look fine. 2nd, Jean outfit, style on the left looks best. Everything else you styled to the right were not flattering, and that hem cuffs too busy, trying too hard.
