    Glad to see the place again after more than 25 years. I'm Bavarian and sad to say I've been there for only a single evening. But it was amazing and very impressive to walk around and to see all the beautiful houses. At first glance I would say nothing has changed since then. Stratford is still a very nice town. Hope very much to come back some day - not so easy in this nasty time.

    We visited Stratford-upon-Avon yesterday (July 2021) and had a lovely time. Your walking tour video helped us plan our trip. Crowds were slim since traveling is still a challenge for international visitors, post-pandemic. We enjoyed a picnic by the Avon, and we also rode the ferris wheel, which gave us spectacular views of the Holy Trinity Church and surrounding areas. Several local people stopped to talk to us (hearing our accents) and made us feel welcome, pointing out Shakespeare's grammar school and offering to take our photo. The guides inside the Shakespeare Birthplace shared many wonderful details. I only wish we'd been able to see a play by the Royal Shakespeare Company, but now we have an excuse to return someday! Thank you again for this succinct and informative walking tour!

    • @TourGuidesTravelGuides
      @TourGuidesTravelGuides  Před 7 lety

      Thank you Brian. I appreciate the compliment. There are many places for blue badge holders in Stratford. In my experience, one of the best place to focus would be the Shakespeare Birth Place; it's really geared up for that. They have the good bathrooms. The entire town is relatively easy with plenty of places to rest. Parking could town center by the birthplace, behind the Birthplace Coach Terminal. They have handicapped accessible toilets there. Otherwise, park off Sheep Street by Shrieves House post code CV376EE. There are not toilets right there. You'd have to go around the corner. This is a lot reserved for blue badge holders. Regardless of where you park, it will be free. Here is a link to a map of the town that shows all the blue badge places:

    I grew up in Warwickshire & myself with a friend used to cycle 17 miles to Startford for a day out & then cycle 17 miles back home. Do kids still go on cycle day trips?

    • @TourGuidesTravelGuides
      @TourGuidesTravelGuides  Před 5 lety

      Andrew, There are a lot of cyclists in the UK and quite a few beautiful, established routes in that area for mountain and road bikes. I have to say that in my experience the cycling enthusiasts all seem to be adults. I am sure that children and teens bike, but the world is not what it once was when we were young. I doubt many parents would feel comfortable allowing a trip such as you described. The roads are much busier with so much more traffic. Sadly that age of innocence has moved on. We must factor in that today's youth may not be as interested in those types of outdoor pursuits and might prefer more electronic pursuits as well. I must thank you for the question though. It reminded me of my youth and all those types of outdoor activities we would get up to. Cheers.

    The Gower monument was constructed in Paris over a 12 year period between 1876-1888 by Lord Ronald Gower and various associates and craftsman. It was unveiled at a ceremony attended by Oscar Wilde on 10 October 1888, at its original location in gardens to south of the Memorial Theatre. The monument was moved to its current location in 1933 following the rebuilding of the theatre after the devastating fire of 1926.

      Krishna , thanks for taking the time out to watch our Stratford edition. I am not sure exactly what you are asking me here , but as far as I know there a no original plays in Shakespeare’s hand that actually exist. There is the First Folio that was put together in 1623 , seven years after his death by former friends & colleagues of his, that I believe contains 36 pieces of his work and as I understand it is in the library of UBC University of British Columbia. I hope this helps. Rich Jones Tour Guides Travel Guides.

    Very nice video. Well presented and full of fascinating information. However, why oh why do the titles spell THEATRE as THEATER? This is an English town and the Theatre is The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Please change it. It's so annoying to read American spelling on something in England. Americans are not stupid and they know we spell "theatre" differently.!

    • @TourGuidesTravelGuides
      @TourGuidesTravelGuides  Před 7 lety

      Well spotted! I am based in America, and although these videos are for everyone, we are trying to target an American audience. I have been generating business through this channel creating itineraries and tours through American clients traveling to Britain and Europe. I wanted to make things familiar for them. Plus my editor here is American. Out of all the views we have, you are the only one who noticed. That shows you have a discerning eye. I have some stuff coming out on the Cotswolds in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye out and let me know what you think. Best wishes, Rich Jones

    You lost my confidence at the point you stood by the Stratford Canal (built 1816) and said the bridge was where Stratford got it's name from. I don't think there is much doubt that the Street forded the Avon, not the canal.

    • @TourGuidesTravelGuides
      @TourGuidesTravelGuides  Před 7 lety +3

      Dear Michael, Thank you so much for you comment. We here at Tour Guides' Travel Guides value all feedback- positive or negative. It can only help us move this project forward. After 30 plus years in the travel industry leading tours around Europe, Britain, and Ireland, we have learned some steadfast rules.Keep your clients safe. Keep your commentary light yet informative. Never take yourself too seriously. Never lie to or mislead clients because there is always someone out there who will know more than you, and you Michael, are that case in point.
      So, if you haven't lost too much confidence in the Tour Guides' Travel Guides, you might want to review the piece again. I did not categorically state that there was a bridge over this canal. I said, It has been said, and I have been told by many local guides there was a crossing either in this area or further upstream by Trinity Church. I was emphasizing the Start Ford, the name being quite literal.
      I hope this clarifies any misconceptions and restores your confidence.
