No flourish, no theatrics
Just, he was there, and now he's not.
I feel that most artists are afraid to do that or people will yell "Quality" but that's the most realistic depiction of transportation in anime, no sound, no ping, no smoke.

Agreed, it was a great decision to take that 'realistic' route here.
The reason it also works so well is because the knife leaves just all the clues needed to convey the passing of time.
Which would be hard to make out if there was no means to measure it, as it could also be slowed or sped up.
Which is probably also commonly avoided to avoid alienating the viewers. The effects in that case are usually more than fancy embellishments, but cues to make it easier for the viewer to interpret what's going on.

ポルナレフのセリフもいいけど不意打ちで死にそうになったから助けるために動いたことでピンチみたいになってたところがある（って意見もある）からそういうのがないこの改編も割といいと思う

18:37- I liked this addition as it showed the fight was far less self contained in one designated area than the 2015 anime/original manga, showed how DIO was directly a threat to everyone around him and showing Jotaro's frustration of not being able to protect others from DIO, making the time he finally overcomes all the more worth it.
They were truly not holding back when making this fight
16:12 by far my favorite fight scene, i love how they adapted this and made into something completely different. it's so good

It is like a mix of combat and taunting at same time. It is also a huge improvement for Dio. While he is arrogant as ever, he still show his ruthlessness and threat towards Jotaro in the time stop and not wasting the 9 seconds. It also shows that 9 seconds do pass instead of extended 1 specific second for 1 minute of monologue.
I love how jotaro mentions his stand as a friend or a companion.

His teleportation is brilliant, I know many people in the comments talked about this already but you really have to give credit to how terrifying it is, no sound what so ever, no effects, just in one frame one second and out of it the next, really shows how terrifying the world really is. With his theme from part 3 (newer version) and this teleportation he would’ve been really badass
its the opposite end of the spectrum I'd say. The newer World's sound design is some the most dense, over-the-top gorgeous stuff that has ever graced my ears,
But in this one it's just this terrifying vacuum, that leaves no time for jotaro to get closure or to catch his breath.

this is a million times better than the remake, the only thing that holds it back for me is DIO not having that manic screamy voice. Then again, RIP to the voice actor of this DIO
I've first watched the 2015 series and I can still say the same. Jotaro has a better personality.

辻褄のために、JOJOにあるギャグ要素がゴッソリ抜け落ちてる。独特のタッチとか、表現や立ち方、あり得なさとか。
この路線ならスプリガンとかAKIRAとかそっちでしょうね。

Even if the voice acting is a bit dated, I'm still mesmerized by the grungy early 90's animation style. The wide city-shots are especially great too, and it all does well to achieve a dense metaphorical atmosphere of danger and urgency. I like both the OVA and the series re-make, each for different reasons though.

Lol the voices are perfect for the theme approach the OVA took (realistic, horror). Why people say they ain't good. I even prefer his voice her than in the remake. Calm and sexy voice when he's col, and when he go crazy, more pervert and evilish. It's perfect. Same for the other char
I call it "the fluid style".
I really love that there is no sound when Dio moves using his ability, it makes it so much creepier, especially with the awesome screenshot at 4:11

@@someguywithasword438 Not the First Dio's voice,(Accordingly the first VA dubbed for Dio is Kaneto Shiozawa for the SNES JOJO3 RPG game) but still Nobuo Tanaka is a very Veteran VA, older than Norio Wakamoto, and his performance was mostly recommended ever since the Showa Era, such as TV champion, and Combat! the JP ver.
@@seraphlai9664 Norio wakomoto was something else in the drama though the emotions he put for dio was just 10/10
In the end I still prefer Tanaka over Koyasu as Dio. Tanaka's raw tone of voice wasn't as cool as Koyasu's, but he was better at actually acting with his voice. His performance is more nuanced, more varied, Koyasu sounds very one-note with Dio.

徹底的にクールな承太郎がポルナレフと別れる時に涙流すのこの旅がどれほど思い出深いものなのかを表しててめっちゃいい。
I actually unironically love this fight. It’s so ambient and tense with the little to no music, making it feel like just these two fighting and struggling for an advantage, Making the reveal of Polnareff even cooler. I even love how Jotaro actually flinches and FEELS the pain of Dio’s attacks, like at 3:11.
Also, 1:23 this Za Waurdo doesn’t get enough praise. Dio’s OVA Japanese VA really gave it his all

I like that the world actually shows emotion when it’s about to die, unlike in the anime where it has like zero emotion.

This fight wasn't afraid to get extremely brutal, and that's why I think it's better than the 2015 version.
I mean, there's SO MUCH HAPPENING. The civilian casualties, Jotaro's insane level of rage, AND A FUCKIN TOWER.

Yeah absolutely. Jotaro actually shows he feels the impact of being hit into the light post. Not to take hot shots at the David production version of this fight as that version is also extremely good and probably better in every regard, but this version of this fight is just so, how do I put it, *human* compared to the David production version. I don’t know how to put it really other than that.

I really like how Star Platinum was a bit like GER and acted on its own to protect Jotaro more than him just randomly starting to move in stopped time.

聞いてると慣れてくるけどやっぱりPS格ゲー声が一番好き
終始不気味な感じが臨場感を際立たせてるね。無駄にbgmをつけない、作画の渋さや恐怖を煽る画とかほんと素晴らしい。
特にお気に入りなのがDIOっていうラスボスの風格をこれまでかと表してる所。タンクローリーのラッシュの所とか鳥肌モノ。

中の人の演技力が凄くてラストの3人の空港のシーンがマジで泣ける
OVAとはいえ、今見ても素晴らしい作画の見応えとオリジナルシーンの少年誌らしい激闘感、ベテラン声優陣による演技が全て合わさってホントに素晴らしい作品になってる
DIOが平気で一般人を巻き込んでくところも承太郎を"ぷっつん"させる理由になってるの好き
一般人を平気で殺しているところから、DIOの目的のためなら手段を選ばないっていう側面が強調されていたと思う。

20:53 this is one of the reasons why I love the animation of the OVA. Even though DIO's punches are that many it still look like it came from his body.
One thing the OVA does really well is make it clear that DIO is not human. He's so strong and fast for someone so large that he couldn't be.

この緊張感と間合いの取り方が旧作が優れてるわ
今まで結構慎重な立ち回りをしてきたのに吸血してからはかなり攻撃的になるの文字通りハイになってる感が感じられていいね。
また承太郎がキレてからは16:32みたいに吸血後のDIOでさえまともに殴り合うと打ち負けてるのはラストの決着にちゃんとつながってて説得力がある。
全体的に丁寧な作品だよね。要所要所で辻褄があうようにできてる。

The art style is so much better than the new anime adaptation. Also the drawing quality and animation are superb. More serious direction and darker atmosphere are also making this version better, imo. Old school anime is the best.

This fight is so much better portrayed in the OVA. The instensity of everything is so much more powerful, and it does away with all the filler exposition that really isn't needed. That was incredible.
What's really cool with these oavs is that the characters seem to actually feel pain, compared to the modern adaptation

@@magicweegee2704I'm fine with this dub. You do realize that this is going for a different vibe/tone compared to the manga/anime, right? Like, this isn't trying to be over the top and bizarre. This is trying to be atmospheric and much more horror-like. The voices used in this version fit this version. As the David Production voices fit the David Production version.
Fight choreography is amazing in the OVA. I love the extra scenes that the modernization decided to leave out. And that teleportation when he uses the time stop. Perfect 👌. The series might not have been the best in voice acting and some of its scenes compared to the newer version, but goddamn this fight scene is the greatest.
10年前、中学生の頃CZcamsで初めてこれ見た時衝撃的だったなぁ。時止める能力とかマジでかっけぇ。

4:00からのDIOは怖い。BGMの不気味さ、声の重さ、映像の暗さ、能力の恐ろしさ。
これらが合わさって怖い。
久しぶりに見たけどOVA版はリアリティというか独特の空気があってカッコイイ。
原作再現度Aのアニメ版も面白かったけど、どっちも味があって良い。
今の奴もいいけど、こっちは車や瓦礫の重みがあっていいよね
こっちのほうが声優さんの演技や全体的に静かな事もあってシリアスで奇妙な冒険感がありますね。
ハイDIOになった時に上着を破る演出や承太郎とポルナレフとの掛け合いでイギー達との別れを知るシーン、受け身モーション等は原作アニメよりも好きです。
If this series did one thing, it was sell how *terrifying* Stand battles would seem to non-Stand-Users. For real, imagine half the shit that goes on in JoJo, in real time, *but you can't see any of it!*

@@himawari168 I mean, considering he is immortal, I don't think he can age past 20. And seeing what happened to straits in part 2 when he transformed using the stone mask, I think vampires just... can't resemble old people at all anymore, they're stuck looking young. So I think his younger voice in part 3 does make sense.

それだとディオは身動きひとつ取れなくなってしまう
ナイフの挙動などから考えるとディオが触ってる部分、周囲の空気とかは時間が止まらないのでは？

物理法則から考えるとそうだけど、あくまで「DIOが当然と思う時間停止」の世界だから、物理法則に基づく時間停止とは異なる。

I feel like in some aspects the ova is better. Like it’s portraying of the world. There’s no visible change sometimes when Dio stop times, things just happen. I also love that’s it’s almost always silent in timestop. Don’t get me wrong Dark Rebirth is an absolute banger for Dio but the silence captures the fact that nothing can move at all making it dead quiet.
So we just not gonna talk about how the title says “OAV”?

TV版のSEもめちゃんこ好きだけど、OVA版での世界から徐々に音がなくなっていく（＝時が止まっている）みたいな表現も最高すぎる
I like how OVA depict this final battle even more devastating and destructive than in the manga

OVAのオリジナルの戦闘シーンほんと好き、特にDIOが吸血鬼ならではのパワーを生かした戦い方が良い
I like how the animation has some weight to it. Like when DIO send Jotaro flying into that train cart derailing it and. When DIO is about to crush him with the truck and how the metal folds in on itself as he's punching it.
Also the way DIO was just teleporting around with no sound.
OVA版は承太郎がザ・ワールドの時間停止に対応して行く過程が原作では唐突に描かれていたのに対して、緩やかに順応して行った解釈がされてて面白い。

Faisal Mutairi I can read and understand Arabic and some of lines (the ones used in signs for shops and hotel names) were actually gibberish and meaningless lines but I can’t deny the fact that some of them were actually real Arabic lines

I *love* how the OVA portrays Jotaro.
Sure, he’s a cocky badass, but he’s _17_ and going up against an immortal DEMI-GOD who is capable of stopping _time itself._ In the beginning it shows how Star Platinum, who had actually been acting subconsciously near the beginning of Stardust Crusaders, was now using powers he was not yet aware of, powers that he was confused at first by before slowly coming to realize that he had always had the same power as DIO.
If I recall, this isn’t how it was played out in the anime or in the manga, instead I was mostly him discovering it with the magnet to see how much he could move. This is an okay way to do it, but I honestly love this so much more because it plays into a Stand’s more unconscious movements.
So do I. Now , I dig Jotaro in general (hell, I love the 6 JoJos...), but In the manga, he was just part of the group, namely the brawler/detective while in the OVA, I was actually more convinced that he was the main player in the adventure. Sure he's less rude than on paper but he's still grumpy, aloof,stoic, somewhat dorky and does display his heart of gold when it matters. Now, I do agree that his conflicts should have been more varied than simply being solved by ORA-ing the villains away but I suppose this is what a weekly pace might cause. So I was all for cutting away some of his fights and focus on ones that are either plot-relevant or highly atmospheric. The darker atmosphere does wonders for Part 3 Jotaro by the way, which rings true for his later years....
BUT the one portrayal that in genuinely UPPED is DIO. He is presented less as the final boss of the game, as he is in the manga, and more as the horror monster that plagued Jonathan back in Part 1. In fact, the Jonathan references are done better in both animes than in the manga, where I feel Araki could have made DIO even more unsettling since the fucker is basically desecrating JoJo's corpse 24/7. Missed oportunity there... I do love the fact that he interacts more with the group in the OVA before chasing them, to display his dominance and more personal grudge with the Joestars unlike the manga's generic "OH NO! His evil aura is here ! BAIL !".

ただ漫画のシーンに動作を付けるだけでなくて、いい感じに、そしてより現実的にアニメーションしてるのが本当に良い
今の時代でこれをやると原作改変と言われてしまうから、忠実に漫画のコマにそのまま動作を付けないとならないけど
改変だって愛があれば誰も噛みつかないよ
子安DIOよりこっちの田中DIOの方が絶望感が圧倒的に強い。

って描かれてないところでもいろんなドラマがあったんだろうなと思えていい別れだなあ。
クセの強い原作とTV版から個性であるそのクセを取り除いてもしっかりジョジョとして成り立ち万人受けする演出はさすが。
