  • In 1926, de Broglie made a bizarre suggestion that just like radiation which demonstrates dual nature, traditional particles also demonstrate dual behaviour of particles and waves. he gave a formula to calculate the wavelength of such a moving particle, which is the de Broglie Hypothesis.

The de Broglie hypothesis, proposed by the French physicist Louis de Broglie in 1924, suggests that all particles, not just light waves, exhibit wave-like properties. According to this hypothesis, particles such as electrons, protons, and even larger objects like atoms and molecules can exhibit wave-like behavior, similar to the way light waves do.
This concept is rooted in the idea of wave-particle duality, which states that particles can behave both as particles and as waves, depending on the context of the experiment. This duality was initially observed and established through experiments with light, where it was found to exhibit both wave-like and particle-like characteristics.
This concept is a cornerstone of quantum mechanics and plays a crucial role in understanding the dual nature of light and particles.
De Broglie proposed that if particles could exhibit wave-like properties, then they should also possess a characteristic wavelength associated with their motion. This wavelength is known as the "de Broglie wavelength" and is given by the equation λ = h/p, where λ is the wavelength, h is Planck's constant, and p is the momentum of the particle.
