Great tone and showcased really well with a great guitar and player that coaxed some superb tone out of that killer amp. Clarity, and just the right measure of upper mid glass that is both smooth and bright.
Well i was so impressed i decided i was going to buy an express. I heard some guy was building them again and looked up the web page. I enquired about having one made, and nobody bothered to get back to me, the web page wasnt very professional looking and they had a section badmouthing clone builders, hahah.. Not very impressive buisness practice imho.
Since then, I've built my own express , and im really blown away. Amazing amp. I've got the parts for a second build and a Beautiful flame maple cab built.
Im happy they didnt bother replying to my email now!!

Hello my brother and friend. Just tears. Your soul and playing are incredible. Thank you. I love you! You are amazing. I wish you got to grow up with a Kenny the way did. He would have loved you. I’m positive that he would have simply given you Betty Lou. I need to send you Amanda. It took him 55 hours to make Amanda. He had logs that had impeccable detail of each amp. Amanda also cost about $1,200.00 to make in 1990. That didn’t include $500.00 he paid for the painted faceplate. She never told me that. I saw in the log book. When I lovingly asked him about, his words were simply; “ you weren’t supposed to see that”. I need to send you Amanda. She would love you!

There's an amazing immediancy between the hands and the sound here - almost as if there is no "amp" inbetween the guitar and listener at all! I'm searching for words here, but "intimate transparency" comes to mind.
I was particularly struck by the range of shades available when using the guitar volume knobs - to me it sounds like clipping begins, quite distinctly, in various upper partials leaving the fundamental clean and then moves down,, as you increase the signal, into the root - almost as if the amp zooms like a great microscope lense into the harmonics of the string winding rubbing against the frets! Lol! Somehow, even cranked it sounded "clean" - that is to say with every string played audibly distinct and separate. The distortion never smearing across strings, and so muncher the richer sound for exactly that

Hello my friend. Now I’m going to comment on one out versus the other since Kenny originally made Betty Lou for me and decided to give me Amanda instead. Vivian sounds more like Amanda. Betty Lou is an amazing sounding head and currently sounds warmer than Vivian. However that is because a rock it takes about 200 hours to break in. They both sound amazing, but Vivian is much bigger and more dynamic. It’s just nowhere near is broken in as Betty Lou. Vivian has about 30% more overall body than Betty Lou. Betty Lou actually sounds very much like a really good Liverpool. However she is still very much a rocket. When we first unveiled Betty Lou and Amanda (my rocket) together, We were both amazed at how much bigger and more dynamic Amanda sounded that Betty Lou. Again, they both sound incredible and your plane is just breathtaking. But wait until about 200 hours. Also the Rockets like really stiff Millard tubes and the best tubes that I have ever heard out of a rocket were Valvo’s. But honestly, if I was given the choice to have Betty Lou or Vivian, I would definitely take Vivian. Except I’m older than you and it would take me a lot longer to break in a new rocket. I love you my brother and you have an absolutely blessed holiday.

Really like the sound of yours, too. Reality Check is what it is; probably the single greatest amplifier ever made. You know what's funny is when I first started playing way back when I was in school I did a lot of research and really wanted a Trainwreck circuit (I also loved the hardwood shells), but ultimately got sucked into the Marshall 18w trend that was going on at the time (I heard a lot of how 30 watts was "too loud" when it turns out EVERYTHING is too loud). I didn't play for many years but started again semi-recently and I finally just went ahead and bought a Mark Kane built Rocket (that has, in fact, been owned by another youtuber) and yeah I wish I had done that ages ago. I own a lot of amps, a lot of really good ones including modern copies of important vintage amps as well as boutique stuff (which I really like, fwiw) but my best sounding amp is that Rocket. Really excited to hear your vintage strat through it as I'm more of a strat guy myself.

Yes, 30w greens 014 cones. 1968's. Ken's favorite along with alnico's. I've played through Ken's ampeg too a bunch of times. Killer sounding. Thanks for asking

I have noticed that damm near every player uses a gibson guitar, not my thing as there are no single coil pickups, as in HSS to get the sweet tones in between that set of pickups, so sad. Great playing just not my thing with HH guitars.
If Jimi Hendrix were alive today he'd be playing Trainwreck Rocket amps.

A Trainwreck (or any amp) sounds SO much better with a Les Paul or any Gibson/humbucker guitar than any Strat or Tele. Just don't like the sound of single coil pickups in the vast majority of cases. I prefer humbuckers, all day, every day, and especially with a Trainwreck.
They both sound great, but side by side, the later copy is a pale imitation. Not even close.
Better sound I have ever heard is only DVD of Led Zeppelin at MSG 1973
