  • Another legendary 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard "Burst" from the Chicago collection, this one is just as awesome, but different from the previous 1959 we shared with you. We have both Jay and Trevor to tell you about it, before handing things off to Nick for a demo through a monstrous 1974 Marshall JMP Model 1959 Super Lead 100w half stack!

Back two years later and my jaw still drops. Those tones are so rich and unbelievable. Excellent playing doesn’t hurt. I think the closest a professional middle aged man such as myself will be a CS reissue 59. It’s like buying a really cheap car ha.

The only 'burst' I ever played belonged to some guy in Northern Michigan, maybe back in 1969. My little band was playing some joint in Cheboygan or Acme and a fella walked in with it. I let him play my Strat and he let me handle his Gibson. At the time they weren't several hundred thousand dollars. It played and sounded great though quite beat up. The frets were pretty small wire, but the guitar played like a dream. I'll find one yet, after all, they were made just over on the west side in Kalamazoo. Some garage sale sometime,,,,,

Many people through the years have bitched and complained that they are so far overpriced and they don’t sound any better than new ones. That only rich guys can afford them now and no one is taking them out to play. Well, here’s what your average joe such as me says. It’s not about the tone, the playability, even the look in my opinion. It’s about a pinnacle of American craftsmanship at its finest. No one can deny the level of quality. No one can deny the dedication to perfection of the shop in this period. And by god, not many can ever hold a guitar and say, I have one of the best pieces of mahogany ever produced on earth. The real treasure is having an AMERICAN masterpiece, a coveted instrument made to stand the test of time for generations...... forever.....
