I’ve caught several small blue cats on stink bait but never a flathead. I live between the Illinois and Mississippi River in Illinois and fish both rivers. You are spot on with fresh bait for trophy fish. Love the info you put out. Keep up the good work

Good channel you got going here, I hope it gets big for you. Got a couple amusing bait anecdotes for you. I once caught a 43 pound flathead on half of a nightcrawler. Once I cleaned a 3 pound channel that had a baby rabbit in its stomach. But I'm like you, I think live or fresh fish are the best bets. I haven't had much luck with cut carp though. And like you said about bait size especially for flatheads, it's impressive how big of a bait they'll take. If you can cast it, a flathead can eat it

Thank you! And yes, its crazy what you can find cutting them open.

Thanks for covering all of this, I learned some new information. Keep up the great videos. What part of Missouri are you from? Sure wish we could use crappie or bass, it would be a lot easier for fresh bait.

Enjoyed the show! I agree with most everything you said... Sonny's (SSS) for channels, live gills for flatties & shad is winter king for blues. I like skipjack & mooneye during the warmer months, but ain't too proud to try chicken. We need to go fishing! Sent you a FB friend request...

@BenLamkins-ni3wg a couple years ago I caught around a 15 to 20 pounds blue and when I got it in the boat I noticed around the belly area where a bigger catfish I have to assume tried to eat the one I was reeling in.

I feel like they go after the heads sometimes because the brain has a lot of fats and nutrients that they need. Ive caught a lot of channels on crappie heads.
