This is so helpful. My dad was a pilot. He took my mom and I up when I was basically a newborn; he started paying for lessons when I was 14; and he dreamt of me flying for the military; but I was never really invested in it. He died 11 years ago and I really regret not paying more attention as a kid. Now at 36, I've decided to get my ppl. These videos are so helpful to refresh my memory on the lingo and instrumentation. Hope my instructor is as knowledgeable and clear in direction as you are!

I am a military flight instructor (helicopters) and it truly has been a pleasure listening to you instruct. I have always been pretty critical of civilian flight instructors because they lack that human touch and they forget that they were in the same boat sometime ago. You, sir, are an artist when it comes to flight instruction. Many CFIs could learn a lot from watching you.

I did not understand anything the instructor said or told me. I have been so overwhelmed. I did not want to seem rude by asking questions. This has helped me make sense of everything that has been said now. This is a lifelong dream of mine to fly, I did not even think it was possible for me to be able to do it. Yeah that’s a good point, I already had 3 flight lessons and I feel so discouraged, I wish I had someone to tell me that is normal to feel overwhelmed and that with time everything is going to come together just fine. Sometimes all we need as students is not just the knowledge but also some words of encouragement… Some empathy. And he explains everything so clear and so well, my instructor just tell me to read the book and then expects me to be able to perform everything all together. He wants me to know all the procedures by memory, to do communications and the callouts and I wish he could just let me learn the basics of flying an aircraft first… He also gives me the controls and then notes what I am doing wrong, but he never explains what I am supposed to do and expect. It’s being very difficult. If I could wish for one thing is to have an instructor just like this, communicative and clear, and someone who could give me some assurance instead of putting me under so much pressure… I am now seeing this videos in hopes to lear how to do it, you know your instructor is not doing a good job when you have to go to CZcams to get an understanding… 😞 Thank you so much for posting this videos, they mean a lot 🙏🏻🥺

We’d get up snap up the gear, and he’d let me get to heading, climb to altitude, trimming the plane and then practice coordinated turns; I ate it up. All in a Mooney Executive 21. Don’t know why I never got a license; I passed ground school while in High School. I guess I got distracted with other interests; girls and motorcycles. Lol. I sure miss it though.

I'm one of the guys on the ground with the little radar scope, love the video, good to know how the other side works.
That bit about traffic calls was quite interesting. We try to provide every traffic call we can, but of course it only takes one missed call to turn a good day into a bad day. A controller's attention moves from one plane to another fairly quickly so if the scan isn't on point, the chances of a missed call start to go up. VFR, as was explained very well, is "see and avoid", but a VFR Tower will still give traffic calls as much as they can.

Dear Captain Scott - Thank you for posting these videos!! They are soo incredibly helpful! I am teaching Flight and Space at my middle school and learning how to fly our Cessna simulators. These videos have been extremely helpful. I have watched them several times and have been taking notes. I will continue to follow your website. Thank you!

Nice video . Appreciate your calm teaching style . I started flying over 20 yrs ago but never finished my ppl .I let life get in the way . But I also ran into an interesting problem that I never had before which has got me on the fence about going after ppl .One step at a time but if I could squirt ppl would like to move on to IFR and commercial but anyway . Looking forward to more videos

Uploaded for a week and a half and it's a testimony to expert advice that there are this many comments (2085 as of July 23) and no thumbs down. These are a great help - especially on introducing trimming. I love the phrase my CFI uses where if you don't trim, you're not a pilot - you're just an interested passenger. So true. These are great videos. Glad you have the energy to push out more of them after jetsetting all over the world! Great advice, a great video and it's helping me get to my solo flight in the next few weeks

This guy is a great instructor! He does an excellent job of explaining everything in laymen’s terms! He doesn’t assume you know anything; he explains everything and I love that! Plus, he just seems very knowledgeable and low keyed. I really appreciate and enjoy his lessons!

Considering a lesson or two myself to overcome small remaining fears. Thanks for clear information without trying to baffle brains with bull! Lot of other pilot trainers would do well to take notes from Captain Scott.

Amazing Captain! Just had my second lesson after a first lesson experience 1 year ago. Today was a death grip experience and a total rush. Your vid totally inspired me to complete the mission. Thanks for a great and professional presentation. I learned quite a bit and actually have more confidence going into my next lesson.

What a great video to watch! Even if you aren't planning on getting your pilot's license, this video is a pleasure to watch. Excellent job Captain Scott on the instruction and the video production. I am so thankful for CZcams, especially since there is nothing but crap on TV anymore!
