“Anyone that knows, after 3 or 4 jack and cokes, things can get contentious”. 😂😂 true words man
I don't know who Dave is but that was the best Slavens video I've watched in a long time. Usually I can't stand listening to the full videos but I kept watching this one. Good job!
Hello:
Thanks for watching! Dave works on the parts counter and is an avid dirt bike enthusiast.
Why the hate on Shinko name? Shinko is a Japanese company with production in Korea. IRC is also a Japanese company. Dunlop is owned by Sumitomo Rubber (Japanese company). Interestingly GoldenTyres used to be made by Shinko, but their partnership ended about 10 years ago. Personally I've been using Shinko tires for a long time as they are reasonably priced and readily available here in Japan. Their gummy tires perform great off-road and are very well suited to use with Tubliss at low pressure due to the heavy duty carcass construction, with a stiff sidewall and softer crown. I love the Shinko 540DC 120/100-18 for my local off-road ride conditions, but it's currently only available in Japan AFAIK.
100% agree. I've tried everything and the Shinko here in Australia are a great price and perform amazing. I now run the 525 gummy cheater in hard enduro and evening else in between. 👍💪
Agreed, I’ve been a Shinko 525 fan for a long time. ( PS, I still enjoyed the rest of the video. )
Hello Mr. T:
Dave must have forgotten to take his meds and over-revved just a bit. I think he was referring to the early years of Shinko shortly after they purchased Yokohama in 1998 and got into the motorcycle industry. Before that they manufactured bicycle tires and tubes. Their quality in the beginning was just OK, now they are a real player in the gummy hybrid tire market.
P.S. Thanks for your many great videos.
Buying one of each just because Dave was awesome!
Hello:
He's bouncing off the rev limiter most days.
I believe the JX8 is dual compound aswell?? The IX09W I thought was the single compound gummy. Either way. I love me a JX8! Killer vid guys. Love to see the options.
Thank you.
IRC JX8 is a Taylor Park slayer...best rock tire...won't last forever but it is insane all the way.
I love to ride Taylor Park
Great descriptions of these different tires, great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
As others have said the JX8 is dual compound as well. Dunlops new EN91EX is also dual compound
Cool. finally someone besides me that also loves the shinko
Shinko de Mayo !!!
I like the AT81EX the best of those options, but haven't tried the Shinko. The 520DC is a little big and heavy for my taste though. I also like the Kenda Ibex. The VE33S holds up great but doesn't quite have the grip of the gummier options. Same with the Arena Hybrid Gummy. Wish the MotoZ was cheaper, as I thought that was a really good tire.
👏🏼👏🏼Well done 🤙🏼 I always enjoy the info you guys put out. Thanks. However, are there really no major differences in the type or style of riding any of those gummies would work better in? If they’re all just phenomenal how do I choose? Would love to here that portion of the after action reports on some of thee tires.
Hello:
Agreed, Dave did not offer any conclusions. Stay tuned for future tire videos.
Michelin Enduro xtreme and medium, best in my opinion, tried most of these tires already
That is an FIM tire with 14mm knobbies, these tires are that shown are typically 17mm; another video with all of the FIM tires would be great, but with ultra soft mousse they all work as well as each other.
The JX8 is a dual compound tire
Put 50 hours on the VE33S riding extreme conditions with expert riders and I could not believe how it lasted. I never get more than 30 hours out of a rear tire. Also, everyone is always looking for that big knob tire but did you know trials tires with a plushie mousse out back will out do all of these tires head to head for traction? Yup.
I run a Dunlop trials tire paired with Tubliss. Aired down I can get phenomenal traction. Just be careful as the sidewalls can easily be damaged.
@@garthlundquist3623 Any reason you don't run a mousse? I run tubliss on my bikes and love them, but the trials seems best with mousse because of what you said...
Hello Guys:
No doubt trials tires have the best traction for rocks and a few other scenarios. However, the downside list is long. Braking is horrible, very bad in heavy mud, not good in sand and they wiggle and wobble and ruin the handling once you get past 3rd gear. ALL of the hybrid tires far surpass the overall performance of a trials tire.
@@onthethrottle7104 I run Tubliss so I can adjust air pressure to match conditions. 14 psi on the pavement and down to 2 psi in the snow and wet root mazes.
@@garthlundquist3623 I run Tubliss on the back myself, I'm very impressed but I also don't want an issue going way back into the trails so next tire I'm going Mouuse.
You need to add ion the Dunlop EN91EX which I believe works better in hard enduro that the AT81EX.
Hello:
Agreed, it should have been included. I'll do a separate video on the 81 and 91.
you missed the best tire KENDA IBEX
Ibex kicks Ass. The Equilibrium is Very similar, but with siping and works great in wet rock and roots. About the same wear
Bowing it! Kenda Knarly 140 is what the entire island of Kauai runs and this is basically the slickest place on earth. Or that is what Cody Webb says at least, haha. Works well with tubliss. Worth a try if you live in a slippery part of the world/country. You can trade those things like gold bars over here.
I love the 520DC for mid summer. Almost as much traction as the JX8 but lasts twice as long. It's not as good in the early season slop though. It has a very rounded profile and it's nice to have a bit more of an aggressive side lug for spring and fall conditions. Also agree on the VE33s. Great balance between longevity and traction. I prefer more traction and will take the hit on the longevity to achieve it. I need all the help I can get 😅
Is the 520dc a wide 120. I like a wide footprint
@@Shelby8371 I would call it a standard 120. Definitely not a wide one, in part due to the rounded profile I described.
I’ve been using the Shinko 525 for the last 5 years in Western Pennsylvania. They perform great in the many conditions that WPa has to offer. Why do you apologize when mentioning shinko?
Shinko 525 cheater is amazing, traction for days, gummy af.
The side knobs rip off easily on the Shinko 525 in the rocks.
Hello: Please see my response above.
Great video. How long does the motoz arena hybrid gummy last for?
Hello:
Service life varies greatly depending on the engine displacement, type of terrain and your throttle skills.
Have you tried any of mitas offerings. Some of there green stripe tires.
Hello:
Yes. Mitas greens slavensracing.com/?s=mitas&post_type=product are another great option that we offer. Dave obviously forgot to include it.
Are any of these in 19"? I run a yz450f in so cal in the desert. We ran the desert IT and m5b mostly with tubeless. What should I try?
I’ve run the Shinko on my YZ450 harescramble bike using a 19” rim. Worked and wore well.
At 81 ex is not new. It has been around the top of hard enduro game for many many years now. I believe before jx8 was around. I have been running it for 7 years I believe
Hello:
You are correct, however Dunlop has had a supply issue (constant backorders) with that tire for many years. They finally fixed the problem so we are now able to keep them on the shelf.
Don't forget all the original gummy that don't leave tracks trils tires.
And the crossover the kenda equilibrium.
Hello:
Sorry, but I've been over the trials tire thing for a long time.
@@slaverace1 ya thats fine I usually don't run one eather but hear in California we have to hide the good trails we work so hard to keep clear so less tracks is a big deal.
Jesus Christ Dave, Take a breath once in awhile ! haha
Or your friends free take offs with 6lbs and a uhd tube.
At81ex is my favorite tire, the 520dc is the absolute worst performing tire I've tried.
So the 520dc sucks for woods riding. I’m thinking about the Dunlops for my 4t💪
I had a similar experience with the 520DC in faster stuff. Wears fast and gives a wobbly wallowy flat feeling using a nitro mousse platinum. For slow stuff I’d bet it’s much better
