I always thought, personally, that regular Chirithy as a Dream Eater, the dark grey one as a Nightare, and the purple one as a Night Terror

Riku was susceptible to darkness and at the start of KH could not be possessed by Absem SoD. It was only after Riku committed acts of darkness, malice, that Absem could posess him through the "darkness" in his heart.

Like Mickey said in KH2, it's not the darkness that's bad, it's who's lurking in the shadows (mwahaha). I kind of hope they bring Chernabog back at some point too, he deserves a bigger villain role than the one battle in KH.

      I absolutely agree!

Agreed. That’s why I think the Master of Master’s thought process is flawed. He believed that darkness in general is bad but what he needs to realize is that darkness is necessary for light to exist. At least that’s my feeling.

This theory would certainly explain Player's turn into Xehanort, and how his eventual fall came about. If Malice was already present in Player's heart to such an extent that they formed a malicious Nightmare Chirithy that acted freely before the Keyblade War even happened, then when their heart was reincarnated into Xehanort, the Malice would have more time to incubate and turn him into the monster he is in the present games. Especially because his future self pulled his heart into the future, binding him to that path (one of the Rules of Timetravel in KH is that if your heart travels into your own future, you become bound to that future and will subconsciously ensure it happens) while also exposing him to the affects of the Dark Corridors before he ever gets the Coat.

Cool, I really like how you worded that video. I also like most of the small changes you made and all the new information that you have brought to it. Thank you for looking into it. I would have never made some of the connections that you did in this video.
There was only one thing that I am not sure I agree with. You called the Darklings heartless and I don't think that is what they are. I will admit that I could be wrong with my understanding of heartless but I will try to explain what I think they are and why Darklings though a lot like heartless are not the same kind of being as them.
Firstly we have two kinds of Heartless. Pureblood heartless that don't give out peoples hearts when destroyed and emblem heartless that do. Although both are called heartless and looking very much alike these two groups are very much not the same. Emblem heartless are a little easier to explain, when Terranort and Ansem's other students where experimenting on the heart, the darkness overtook the people that they where experimenting on and their hearts turned into emblem heartless as a way to defend themselves form that darkness, because the experiments bodies where not doing a great job at doing so. These heartless where given an emblem to make them look different then other heartless however I am of the opinion that even without this emblem they would still be different then Pureblood heartless. In KH1 we see two people become heartless, the man in Traverse Town who becomes an emblem heartless, and Sora who becomes a Pureblood and is in fact the only person who becomes a pureblood heartless that I know of. This is either Sora is different then then the people around him and it hasn't been explained and so become a pureblood, or Sora become a heartless oddly and so didn't get an emblem even though that was the kind of heartless he was.
Pureblood heartless on the other hand are up to this point unexplained. They exist in the Realm of Darkness and have always existed. If I had to guess they are a natural part of the world. After all what do we see Pureblood heartless do. They collect hearts storing them into themselves, most likely to allow said hearts to heal or maybe to take them to the afterlife it isn't really clear what they are doing. I would of corse never say this without examples.
Have you ever noticed that the Guardian appears before Xehanort forces Terra's heart out? This means that the Guardian is not Terra's heart given monster form but rather a Pureblood heartless that stays in Terranorts shadow that happens to hold Terra's heart. It could even be that the Guardian is within Terranort when not out and about which would allow the two to talk as they do in Blank points. It would also explain in Remind Sora who is just a heart because of time travel is easily taken into the Guardian for a time. This isn't a heart that has taken the shape of a heartless this is a heartless whose job it is to take wounded hearts into it's comforting and healing darkness until it can be placed back where it belongs.
Aqua in the Realm of Darkness is already walking for hours before she sees her first heartless and even then it doesn't attack her. It isn't until her own heart is weakened to the point that it might need to be healed, or she attacks the heartless that they start coming after her. Pureblood heartless do attack Sora and Ventus without them attacking them, but Sora was likely born with a hurt heart, and Ventus defiantly has one after UX and likely from before we ever saw him.
The Lich is actually the final piece in this puzzle that made me sure that Pureblood heartless are there to take wounded hearts into themselves and either heal them until they could be put back in their right place or take them to the afterlife if there is no way to heal them. After all that seems to be what the Lich is doing. Sora is just stopping him.
One of the cool things about Darkside is whenever you fight him he has zero interest in fighting you. In fact most of it's fights all the attacks are based about attacking the world around you. If you happen to get in it's way of finding the Worlds heart and taking it to the Realm of Darkness to be healed that is on you not it.
Anyway the reason that Darklings are not heartless is because they don't act like heartless. For one thing these are clearly wielders being changed into some kind of monster, which would make them closer to Emblem heartless. Thing two they speak which is something only Ansem Seeker of Darkness has ever done as a heartless. Of course Ansem Seeker of Darkness is a really odd heartless, for one thing he doesn't become a heartless until he choses to by protecting his heart from turning into a heartless by use of a brown rice bag with belts, and time travel. And it isn't until he possesses Riku that he turns into a "heartless". Yeah that doesn't sound like Ansem Seeker of Darkness was ever really a heartless he was a heart that possesses someone else's body thus skipping the heartless stage all together. Lastly Darklings fall unconscious, seriously we see them do so in UX and be picked up from there unconscious state and eaten. We have never seen a heartless do this, or indeed anything without a body do this. Even Sora in CoM when it is unclear if he has a body or not seems to have trouble sleeping, it isn't until he is put in a pod and forces his heart into a state of unconsciousness that he appears to sleep. I would guess it is the fact that he doesn't have a body more then anything else that makes it impossible for him to leave that pod without Roxas.
What I think is happening is that a heart can in a flight response turn into a emblem heartless. However wielders and likely people with strong wills don't allow their hearts to do this. This doesn't really stop the person from being overtaken(malice/darkness not sure which) though. It just happens a lot more slowly(how do you boil a live frog) and because of this the heart never leaves the body and so the body also gets turned into a Darkling. Both Riku and Aqua in our story seem to start turning into Darklings. So we know it is a very slow turn, and that it can be stopped before a complete turn happens.
So yeah I don't think that Darklings are heartless because they are not made the same way, and Darklings have bodies which heartless do not. This was a very long explanation for such a small difference. Sorry.

You are absolutely right, they are darklings and they are different. With so many different types, I get them confused sometimes. I really like your observations on the guardian, too!
