    I have made weak peracetic acids in the past for fun, but I have been considering it as a better alternative to purify my well water. Of course I would purchase something more professionally made if I do, but would I have leftover Paracetic acid to filter out after the process, or just the by-products as it reacts with the organic materials in the water?

    • @EvonikIndustries
      @EvonikIndustries  Před 3 lety +2

      Dear @DerpyDaringDitzyDoo, peracetic acid is a hazardous chemical and should only be handled by a professional or someone skilled in the art. In any case the use of proper personal protection equipment and approved and qualified equipment is highly recommended. To avoid any harmful concentration after the application measurement of the residual components should be performed before any use. Kind regards!

      Hello Gavin, thank you for asking. There is no simple answer to this question, since the effectiveness of disinfections, and thus the required concentration of peracetic acid, is highly dependent on the target organism, mode of application, and specific use case. Please contact us at active-oxygens@evonik.com so we can help you to further clarify your question.

    Thanks for the great video, I have a question though which I'm sure would be on many people's mind, Is peracetic acid a good disinfectant against Corona Virus? And if so what percentage of concentration should be used? Also does it cause corrosion on steel surfaces and other metallic surfaces that are used in electronicall devices?

    • @EvonikIndustries
      @EvonikIndustries  Před 4 lety +2

      Dear Tim Rex, due to its strong virucidal effect, peracetic acid is used as an active ingredient for surface disinfection.
      Please contact us at active-oxygens@evonik.com for any questions on dosing and handling, so we can provide best support.
      There is no issue if the product is used on stainless steel at suggested dosing rates. This product should not be used on medical devices. The use on electronics directly is not suggested.

      @@freezingentertainment2038 Dear freezing entertainment, Peracetic acid is a strong disinfectant to destroy microorganism. But it must not come into contact with the human body, as Peracetic acid can severely irritate and burn skin, lung and eyes and is harmful if swallowed. All the best and stay healthy! @EvonikIndustries  Před rokem +2

      Dear @Niq T8, Thanks for your question. Peracetic acid is a powerful oxidant that needs to be used as directed. It should not come into contact with the skin, which is why personal protective equipment is a must when handling the chemical. Peracetic acid can indeed be used in the mining industry: For example, when recycling fracking water, a mix of peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide can effectively clean the water for further use, reducing the need to draw upon natural resources. For further information, please feel free to write active.oxygens@evonik.com. Kind regards!

    Can we mixed peraxetic acid with surfactant and how to thicken peracetic acid ?

    • @EvonikIndustries
      @EvonikIndustries  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Halmi AR, based on the chemical composition of peracetic acid, all products on the market are formulated products and optimized for the specific application. Thus, we do not recommend to reformulate them. In our product portfolio you can find peracetic acid formulation already containing surfactants or other additives. In hospital: could it be used as a neutralizer (deactivating agent) on a surface contaminated with cytotoxic drugs after a spill accident?

    • @EvonikIndustries
      @EvonikIndustries  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Georges Akoury, thanks for your question. In general, peracetic acid is a strong oxidizer and therefore able to convert oxidizable compounds. However, whether a degradation (neutralization) really takes place or not depends on the chemical structure and properties of the drugs.
      Therefore, the typical method in case of spilling of chemicals or drugs is the absorption with liquid binding materials and the disposal according to respective regulations.
      Kind regards, the Evonik-Social-Media-Team

    Can Peraclean be effective against the Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus?

    • @EvonikIndustries
      @EvonikIndustries  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you for your question. In general, peracetic acid is a strong disinfectant also known to be active against a broad range of viruses. Nevertheless in case of special types this should be tested in order to validate efficacy. For Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus so far there are no data available.

    • @EvonikIndustries
      @EvonikIndustries  Před 5 lety +3

      Dear Beckala67,
      Thank you for your comment. The use of peracetic acid (PAA) depends on the country and the applicable law. While in Europe it is not allowed to use any kind of chemicals for the treatment of meat, in the United States, for example, chlorine has been used for the disinfection of meat for a long time. It’s now being replaced with peracetic acid as an environmentally friendly alternative. PAA has a big advantage compared to chlorine: it removes bacteria quickly and successfully, while ensuring that no byproducts are created that could be harmful for human beings, as it consists of water, oxygen and acetic acids, otherwise known as vinegar. Thank you again for your engagement.
