- 253. Renovating a derelict building on a small budget has it's challenges, but by just using some creative methods you can save thousands. Today we upcycle 3 sets of the existing windows in the chateau just with some elbow grease, putty and new glass. Ted builds the frame for the wall paneling and Lesa has a dilemma on the colour scheme

Hi, from just up the road in the Charente. We used to live in a large terraced house in England and one of the downstairs 'living rooms' hardly had any natural light. We made a feature of it with navy blue walls, burgundy curtains, and 'pale/muted' gold chairs and settee! We loved that room! Go with your gut though. We now live in a large terraced house here in France and every room is individual. I just 'listen' to what the room is telling me. Although having said that, I cannot decide what to do with the living room - It's been white for the past 18 years 🙃

One vote for neutral sandstone colored walls with deep jewel colored tapestry like bedding to add texture for an old world medieval look.

After seeing your friends’ room, I have agree that dark walls and dark fabrics looked gorgeous. It seems that they broke up the dark with gold accents and carefully placed lights. If you balance the dark with gold, I think it could be quite beautiful!
I've watched since almost the beginning of your adventure with Montmagner. The opening drone shots really show how much you've accomplished. From looking like 🌲🌲Sleeping Beauty's Bramble Castle 🌲🌲with vegetation over your heads to today is SUCH a change. Remember when you went hunting for the lake? I didn't really believe there was one, even when you were almost in it! 🌊Now look. 👀The grounds are manicured and inviting, and the lake sparkles. The outside no longer looks like a barnyard. It looks like a lovely, inviting place to sit and have a coffee ☕and cakes 🍰and spend an hour in the garden area. 🌼🌺Mostly, I look forward to the completion of the bathroom in the Piggeries so you two can sit back in that lovely tub some day 🛁.
P.S. The images you showed worked with that dark burgundy because of the amount of space there was to balance it with the strong gold. Also, that room was a lot taller than the one you are working with, and you can get by with a lot more dark if you have space to anchor it with light. When I watch on my screen the walls look almost golden as they are, which I think looks lovely in that space. Maybe some strong golds with the deep reds as accents and bed hangings in a print?

You make window renovation look easy but I feel sure I would break something or not press hard enough somewhere for fear of breakage. You’ve got such a deft touch.

Dark walls. The red you showed is so vibrant. I would even go for vivid dark fabric with some gold fabrics or a lighter shade of the dark fabric. I think the dark walls will warm up the room..

Love the red and gold combo especially with a feature wall behind the bed head in red (I do love burgundy/mustard combo but that might not be in the mandate).

How about find a fabric that you really like and want to use for bedding or curtains, then take inspiration from that for your wall colours. Easier to match the thousands of paint colour choices to your favourite colour fabric. Whatever you choose will be fab, look forward to seeing what you choose x

There is a gorgeous paint colour by Little Gxxen. I think it is 'Madelaine'. It is an 'old gold'..Light enough to bring in more light, dark enough to mellow the room. It would go great with dark sumptuous fabrics and patterns.❤💛🧡❤💛🧡

I like your idea Lesa but use the red as a feature wall and use white on opposite walls for the Templar colors red and an antique white. If you could find some old pictures of Templar that would be cool also. Already subscribed to the new channel

I am always glad when you can reuse and fix the windows as some aren't so lucky like Dan from Escape to rural France will have to replace every single window in his and no way to recycle. He says he's going to make them himself I have confidence he will. Ok will do with other channel if it helps. I am hoping also for any budding craftspersons you will have some instructional type videos too. I loved the windows Lesa are beautiful was amazed they didn't have to have anything replaced. You could make the panels yourselves though or use beadboard and rails is easier. Or copy the design from one of your armoires. I hope you manage to find something no less that suits. You could just attach a curved metal piece to the end give it a bit of character and less work. Use a stone colour can add colour with prints to match with the stone walls you have or even terracotta not red would be too dark for this room. Maybe only do red in the WC as it's an energy colour. Use light fabrics with the stone or terracotta colour will be warm and calming.

The red wall with gold n light accents sounds great people are so vanilla but when your staying in a very old historic building you dont want it to feel like your in a motel you want a point of difference in my opinion.
Red walls would be too dark IMO. Use paler colors with pops of red and gold in fabrics/furnishings.

The room is looking good! Can't wait to see the final product! I think you should go with your original plan. Don't second guess yourself. You are creative and have such interesting ideas. If people want regular rooms they can find those in other places. I think you'll still be able to make the space both beautiful and comfortable and unique! PS I have subscribed, liked and watched your new channel. I hope it helps you succeed in the ways you want.

Unfortunately red is not a soothing color for rest. They use it in public bathrooms because it chases people out quickly. Now if you do just one as an accent it may work.
