I really felt that with you, when you had an emotional moment of remembering Vince. I know he was so special to you, and your greenhouse is such a lovely homage to his legacy. I'm an OG subscriber and so I remember the videos of you going to Vince (your) "my Italian" for help with wood working. One of my absolute favorite projects that you did with Vince was that large bowed/warped piece of live edge wood that you made into a desk for a woman's office. (I think she is the person who creates that beautiful paint you used in the makeover). You and he worked really hard on that wood to get it straight. And I thought he was so sweet and that you two had such a lovely relationship. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. He lives on in your greenhouse and in your videos.

The greenhouse is everything. I am absolutely the sort of person who requires lovely spaces and things to keep me inspired and I can’t think of a more inspiring space to keep the love of gardening well fed 😊. I’m not much of a gardener myself. I do not have much of a green thumb, but I aspire to be at some point. I am surrounded by avid gardeners, though, and have been an up close observer to the process from being almost totally lost as to how to begin and what to do to them now being very knowledgeable and confident. There is one through line for them all, regardless of their natural talent for it: do not be afraid to “fail”. You will lose plants. Things just won’t work out like you planned them the first time. It takes years to really get to know your soil, sun patterns, weather cycles. Even insects have cycles and you may feel you have gotten all the details nailed down and along comes some random bug to upend it all. Various blights and rots and sometimes things just don’t flourish and you never can quite figure out why. It’s a very humbling enterprise but, from what I have observed, the more you let go and let the wild things tell you what they want, the more your garden will flourish and the more satisfying the experience will be. But it sounds like you, too, have avid and experienced gardeners in your family, so I’m sure you already know all this. I’m just wanting to cheer you on and affirm the entire enterprise. We humans are so used to being in control of our environments but nature always wins. Her wisdom is astounding to behold. I’m excited for you and look forward to seeing the journey unfold. Your hair suits you very well. It looks lovely 😊 I love how we so often mark a new chapter in our lives with a new haircut lol. I don’t know why we do, but it’s one of my favourite things about us. ❀

Danie, if you want lots of corn, you need to plant it in rows in the ground. You need about 6-10 rows for it to properly pollinate and grow edible ears. That little tub isn't enough room. But, tomatoes would likely thrive in the tub!

tip for your yard waste compost: You can add coffee grounds without having a risk for raccoons getting into it, and it'll help encourage the bugs needed to break it down. Also make sure you have a leaf litter layer in there every once in a while :)

Love the raised bed and archway design! One of my favorite things in garden design is when there's a kind of reveal or surprise element. To that end, the flagstone path that goes between the beds and is covered by the archway could have something visually fun at its end up against the fence. Maybe a nice bench with potted flowers around it, or a burbling fountain, or a birdbath or sculpture, or some art fixed to the fence itself. Something that, once someone walks through the archway, is a nice surprise for them to feel like they discovered! Can't wait for the next video Danie!

Hi Danie! Love your greenhouse! Have been watching for awhile, really love your content.
I am a gardener in Florida, Agricultural Zone 9b, (which means really effing hot and humid with hurricanes đŸ€Ł), since I was 8 years old. I wanted to give you this tip: Your taller structures and plants in your raised bed areas should be in the North part of your garden. I can't see from your videos which direction is North, but when you are placing trellises, or hoops (arches for vining plants), or even taller plants, they should be more North than your shorter plants, unless you are trying to make more shade for parts of your garden.
Thought you'd want to keep that in mind as you put your garden plans into action. Good luck! Feel free to reach out if I can help. ❀

  • @FlorenceChandotCA
    @FlorenceChandotCA Pƙed rokem

I'm so glad to see the greenhouse wintered so well!
Just a note on corn: It's wind pollinated and it's likely to get MUCH taller than what your tub and greenhouse can provide. If you want actual corn, I'd suggest planting outside and in a grid configuration so the plants cross pollinate each other rather than relying on insect pollination.

Love this!! Couple things: I am amazed that you knew how to set up the irrigation system! So awesome. Then, my heart hurts for your “old door” shelving!! Have you considered sealing with a water-based poly, matte finish? It’s a beautiful idea to use the door, but I would be concerned with water damage, as it seems there will be a lot of drippage and overspray with the watering system. I still want to be DIY Danie when I grow up (I’m 68!!). Best wishes and keep creating!

That style of compost bin is designed with an open bottom for a reason. Drainage and contact with the worms, bugs, microbes that are in your soil are essential. Also being able to lift it up and access the whole pile is so much easier than trying to shovel out of the little trap door. The cleats you bolted to the board are meant for stakes into bare ground.

That feeder would make a great tool carrier. I use a basket for all my small tools when I’m out in the garden. Helps me keep track of them because there’s a designated spot to put tools down. It’s easy to lose those smaller tools when you’re working in the garden.

Raised beds: take out grass, put chicken wire and landscape fabric down before your boxes (including your pathways). Will keep out moles, weeds, grass, etc and keeps it way easier to maintain. Use cedar wood so they don’t rot 😅 and put gravel on the pathways not mulch or chips because weeeeeeeeds. If you want to be fancy you can add grid drip watering. Also be careful your arched trellis doesn’t shade out the other garden box. Good luck and happy building!

Your greenhouse the Treasure Chest~ Cool watering syste. Raised bed wood cedar or redwood so it's food safe. Lay large cardboard pieces on the grass in raised bed, wet down then add soil. No dig and it works. If you deal with gophers lay down wire mesh on top off grass then cardboard and so on. Love the new do!

The Sunflowers are annuals. The stuff you are going to prune is perennial. Good luck with your new spring garden and getting your greenhouse ready for new plants!

Nice hair cut, looks great. Suits you very well...I really like it! Exciting that we start with the green house journey. Plants like cofee, so you can mix coffee grunsh with the soil and should be good.

Love the hair! Just FYI, temporary hair colors are actually conditioning to your hair. Xmondo for example even has bond builders. Sorry if I’m saying something obvious or out of turn. You know what you’re doing with your own hair, just know the purple was important to you. â€ïžđŸ’•

Dannie love, Annuals are things that have to be planted every year. Perennials are things you plant once and never need to plant again. Bi-annuals are things that come back for a second year before they flower and go to seed.

Danie, your haircut is really cute! The greenhouse looks great, and I love your idea for the raised bed garden. I have 3 raised beds and my hubby just added two cattle panel arches going over the walkways between them, and I couldn't love it more! As a new gardener, I'm also excited to see gardening content.

Tools in the feed bag. Plants do better if watered by their roots rather than sprayed from above. Their leaves can be burnt from the sun magnified by the water droplets pooled on their leaves. Mulch holds the moisture in their soil. If you want to grow root veg such as carrots, beets, or potatoes a deeper raised bed gives them more room to grow.
