@@solarsyrup well in the timeline, skyward sword is the first game so when the first Link got the goddess sword, he went to find the goddess’s fires and forged the goddess sword into the master sword

Doesn't Zelda (who is the mortal incarnate of the goddess) technically complete the ritual and turn the Goddess Sword (made by the Goddess herself) into the true Master Sword? The Goddess Sword was made by Hylia, Link aids in its creation into the Master Sword, and Zelda completes the ritual by 'awakening' it (when Link first creates the Master Sword, it's dark and not as powerful)
You would learn the truth about the sword and the zelda game timelines if you hold the *hyrule historia.*

When Fi’s theme played when Link pulled the fully awakened Master Sword, I teared up a little.
After playing Skyward Sword HD and recognizing the song it gave me absolute chills.
Not just fi's theme, the music that plays when link pulls the sword infront of the 7 sheikah monks, its the same when Link upgrades the sword in SS
I found it funny how fi revealed to oot link, tp link, botw link and ss link that you need to go to a driving school to get a license. Botw link tried searching for the license with his shiekah sensor, oot link tried searching the license with sword dousing and tp link tried using his wolf sense to find it
Twilight Princess’s will always have the best cinematic (and most satisfying) Sword Get moment...but there is something *hilarious* about Fi just yeeting fireballs at poor Link xD

I love the master sword's story in skyward sword it starts weak and tiny but it grows in power with each adventure of the first hero rewarding his effords with more power.
I love the Master Sword being a reflection of Link's own personal growth throughout Skyward Sword, it makes you feel so much more involved imo

I think the Wind Waker pull is terribly underrated. His facial expressions are just priceless. He goes from “Woah what!” To “this is AWESOME” to “alright, serious time.” In like 3 seconds

Botw's sword pull is more interesting than in age of calamity.
@@airtiger4577 Breath of the Wild's pull was more interactive, but not interesting. In Age of Calamity, Link & Zelda were under attack while trying to find the sword, then happened upon it at the moment Zelda's life was in imminent danger.
The Master Sword has broken spells in the past while in it's pedestal, but it has never stopped enemies the way that it did in Age of Calamity.
Since it acted in that manner in response to Link reaching for Zelda in its immediate presence, it made sense that Link wouldn't require the same test that he did in Botw, as Hylia(Zelda) herself considered Link worthy of the Master Sword, and also happened to be in its immediate presence.
@@shadowphoenix10 Yeah, but the interactiveness botw had with the master sword is what made it more interesting and satisfying to pull out. You're just pretty much saying that the master sword in aoc is a game changer and it does get the upper hand on botw by that. It makes defeating the hollows with ease while the master sword in botw just deals more damage on all enemies when at it's full power.

You know what might be one of the most mysterious parts of the Master Sword? The sheath. Link will always draw the sword from whatever pedestal it's in, and is always able to sheath it on his back like he knows the sheath is there, which it ALWAYS is. How does THAT appear?
The magic of the Blade of Evil's Bane makes his current sword's scabbard its own.
We are talking about a magical powered sword blessed by goddess and wielded by many heroes so sheath is not a big deal

I honestly like to think the sheath is always just laying at the base of the podium he draws it from. It just always sitting on the side, waiting for Link to come pick it up after he draws the sword. Would be the only way to reasonably explain it. Shield too if it's not obtained elsewhere.

For me getting the Master Sword in a link to the past was an early childhood memory. As a young child with no guide it took months for me to get it. Pulling the Sword out is epic and walking out of the forest towards hyrule castle swinging your new long shining beam-shooting sword is just awesome. Plus the music goes so well with the cutscene of you pulling it out.
I just finished playing this game for the first time, and I'm astonished by how much of it I can see in later Zelda games. The gameplay wrecked me but it still holds up
I really miss the simplicity of ALttP in newer titles. ALttP has everything that makes Zelda great, without any of that nonsense, that was added over time, like absolutely silly characters or sidekicks that explain the obvious all the time.
In general newer entries explain to much. I like the show, don't tell aspect if ALttP.
And I also like the somewhat more serious tone it has compared to a Wind Waker or Minish Cap for example.
But most of that is probably nostalgia, if I would play ALttP for the first time today, it would be a cool game, but not the same experience it was, when I spend years of my childhood playing this game.
@@ricekrispies1917 Yeah ALttP pretty much sets the framework for most of the future games in the series. There's so many firsts in it. First incidence of Kakariko village, lost woods, master sword, ocarina, the sages, medallions, empty bottles, cuccos, various pieces of music and jingles that continue to recur throughout the series, etc. There's probably so much more I'm forgetting too. The basics were set in the NES Zelda games but the majority of what we know of today as Zelda originates from ALttP.
I never played this game before, I have played a link between worlds which almost qualifies as a remake to a link to the past from what I have seen. And I can say it took me a month to get the master sword. I replayed the game and it took me two days lol
@@Gokudo87 they decided to explain things too much for the kids that have trouble. the thing is these days older kids/adults play it so we can understand how to do everything pretty easily. So Nintendo decided to help us when we didn't need it anymore
Fun fact: since Windwaker happens in the future timeline of ocarina, there was no triforce of courage and also there was no hero, the reincarnation spell for link stopped existing because it banished with the hero of time, which means windwaker link was not born to be a hero, he was just a random kid that was trying to save his sister
Makes it feel that much more satisfying when you reforge the triforce and BECOME that hero. Doesn't the reincarnation spell retake effect after this? Because I thought the spirit tracks link was a reincarnation of this link.
Personally, I feel like the wind waker master sword is not the same one from all the other ones and that it was forged completely by hand shortly before the great flood and that if phi does exist anywhere in wind waker, it's in the form of that fairy queen that grants you the power of fire and ice to your arrows
its nice that every time link pulls the master sword (except the oracle games) the same theme plays, and when I first played botw and pulled the master sword, I got chills hearing the fanfare again
The Oracle Games never and won't have a Master Sword.
It's the White Sword which is another legendary Sword from the first and second Zelda.
It's only called in Japanese that way and in English the "Noble Sword".

Wind Waker is my favorite. From Link’s facial expressions to the way the world around you comes to life once it’s removed, truly magical.
Ocarina’s is definitely the most memorable, mainly because of the plot twist that came afterwords

Yeah the hero of time link was the most important link of all of them as he was responsible for the timeline split
Contrary to most people, I first got my sword in a link between worlds. I then figured this Zelda game was so good, maybe I should try ocarina of time. And thus, began my journey in the world of Zelda.
Same I played that game and was amazed which led on to me playing loads of zelda games
I started with Majora's mask then ocarina the only game i gotta play now is age of calamity
Link Between Worlds is a great starting point, it has all the basics of what you'll find on the rest of the series
If you like Link between Worlds, you should try A Link to the Past. It's pretty much the original version/prequel.

So anyone else find it strange that the only times humans temper and improve the sword is in the downfall timeline? All other upgrades are more magical ones, not through a blacksmith
I just thought the versions of the master sword seen in that timeline were just a replica and OoT link took the real one back home.
Link fully powering the Master Sword in BoTW is the best one for me. It’s not technically a sword pull, but it carries the weight of one. It’s a little more somber and downplayed rather than being this epic moment. It’s nighttime and you can hear the breeze and the sounds of the woods, Link closes his eyes and you can tell he feels not only the power of the sword, but Fi as well. Then it plays her leitmotif and she talks to him, even for that brief second. Makes me so emotional every time I watch it. The absolute best Master Sword moment out of all Zelda games.

Skyward Sword is probably the best due to forging the sword, but my heart lies with my second Zelda game I ever played and beat. I was a mere child when I pulled the Master Sword out in A Link to the Past, and it the was one of the most magical moments for me at that time.
@Mr7Reality Thank you. :) I would have started the series with the first Zelda probably, by mom wouldn't let my brother and I have an NES. I was given a Gameboy for my--I think--7th birthday and my first Zelda was Link's Awakening, but I will always hold A Link to the Past dear to my heart.

@Mr7Reality Oh, it actually doesn't have to do the 25th anniversary, more like cherished memories. Well, November 21st is my birthday and when SS was released, it was a Sunday. Where I was at. everything was close, so it technically released on my bday. I didn't own a Wii, but I went to the bus to go to GameStop early to get the Special edition with gold wiimote. The bus had upped their fare and I didn't have enough, but some random guy who didn't know it was my birthday spotted me 25 cents so I could ride the bus. Amazing. I got to Gamestop, and apparently, the Special Editions required a pre-order; except they had spares which had not been claimed. I was able to buy a Special Edition on my bday like I wanted.
But it doesn't end there. Dec 3rd, we had my birthday party. My friends let me try out Skyward Sword, and I loved it. Then, my older brother took me home, back then he lived a long ways from me and the drive was 20 minutes. I had friends at my party who lived in the neighboring city I lived in, but it was my brother who took me home. We got there, my brother asked if he could come inside. There, on my gaming chair was this huge Best Buy bag. My brother joked: "thieves don't usually leave things." I looked inside the bag.
A brand new black Wii and Wii Component cables. I was so happy. My brother hugged me and said, "Happy birthday." :')
That's why I will never sell my Wii nor my original copy of Skyward Sword.

Personally I like the link to the past one because if you check the timeline, link to the past happens after the ocarina of time link fails to defeat Ganon, so the new link has to venture into the dark world with the master sword, to upgrade it, gain the power of silver arrows, then defeat ganon and bring peace to hyrule for a while.
That’s like 90% why I like it, the other 10% is because LttP was my first legend of Zelda game.
Skyward sword is one of my favorite Zelda games and Fi (although she’s really annoying) is my favorite character introduced in skyward sword, so every time I see someone beat the master trials and you get that sound effect I ALWAYS get chills man

BOTW is my favorite 100%, in every other game, you just kinda get it once you've done what you need, but in BOTW, its a test of courage, do you keep pulling and hope you have enough health? or do you give up and wait until you're stronger? its a true test of courage that I love, I wonder what it mustve felt like to be a player who didnt know exactly how many hearts they needed

I can't say that it is. It's there because Nintendo wanted to appease the people crying about it having durability. It doesn't really make sense within the game.
Honestly Skyward Sword had the BEST Master Sword Obtained moment, because you not only earned it, but FORGED IT YOURSELF. You proved that you are the one with the three goddesses blessing, you proved that you are able to wield the ENTIRE Triforce and not just the Triforce of courage, and you had Hylia HERSELF bless the sword in front of you, all while saying you are worthy. That to me, is the hypest of all moments.
Twilight princess, imo, wasn't all that great. It's okay if you liked it, but me personally, it wasn't AS impactful. Sure we got to see that the stories are true and it purges the evil from you, but no other Link can say they MADE the Mastersword. (fixing it doesn't count)

@@Electric_Embers I'm aware of the trials and tribulations The Hero of Winds, went through, I just didnt find them as impactful. The mastersword was already made, and yeah he had to reobtain the triforce and reawaken the blade with help from sage reincarnation... But again it just wasn't... As impactful.
In zelda for the nes, Link had to collect pieces of the triforce as well. Heck in most games he collects pieces. But the fact that SS Link found it, and also had the FULL triforce on his hand and NOT just courage... Speaks volumes to me. Stay Awes9me

Pulling the Master sword in BOTW: *anime epic moment of MC almost dying in order to get the desired power his ancestors (Zelda for this situation) left for them, the memories of friends remembered are flashing before his eyes and the ancient one challenging him to such a dangerous risk is silently watching, expecting him to die like many others who tried, but finally, inch after inch, Link finally pulls out the sword while being on the edge of death. Victorious, he looks around him and swings his sword for the first time in 100 years, ready to defeat Ganon.*

@@DEV3N87 well, that was made so players won’t use only the Master Sword and don’t need to force themselves into doing it.

The point of BOTW’s weapon system is that you find a weapon - it breaks - you get a new one, because player needs to defeat enemies using various weapons or not using weapons at all if you want to be creative or you don’t like the weapons. The game doesn’t let you get OP with the damage of Savage Lynel weapons with extra damage bonus, only with stamina and hearts. The master sword is just a consistent tool to have in case if ur weapons are bad or broken. I understand the fact that in other Zeldas, you get the Master Sword in like, the later midgame and then run around until the credits start rolling.
@@Alex_Fishman tl dr, im a little drunk. All i gotta say is when youre on a quest and your weapon breaks, or mutiple weapons break. Its awfully inconvenient...as a lifelong zelda fan myself since Link to the Past/Links Awakening

My top favorites are A Link to the Past (2nd) and Twilight Princess (1st). The music (especially Twilight Princess additional music after Midna's dialogue) makes it even more powerful for me.
I’ll never forget getting the master sword in OoT. I literally had a dream about it the night of. It was that big of a moment for me as a six year old haha!
Ocarina of Time really is SO iconic! It wasn't my first Zelda game but when it comes to pulling the Master Sword it's easily my favourite.
Skyward Sword having you forge the sword is also just cool as all feck, love that game so much!

They always keep it the same when it’s the Master Sword proper. It’s just stylized each time. The Goddess Sword boosts or refinements don’t count.

I remember playing skyward sword on my wii as a kid and felt it most magical when Link pulled out the sword amidst the night in the temple.
After all these games, the master sword is still getting stronger...
Except for BoTW where the sword has a battery lifetime of about 50 swings before needing a recharge of a few minutes

Age of Calamity is my favorite, closely followed by Trial of the Sword. Link in Age of Calamity is just such a fucking badass. Also it was watching that cutscene while playing when I realized Link has some VERY blue eyes!!! They're just so vibrant

It's also more accurate that the sword drains link's life because of all the power it posessess. That is like the strongest version of the master sword yet.

Watching this makes me wonder how we’ll “obtain” the master sword in BOTW 2. We already have it, and judging by the recent teaser, our reunion with it might not be too pretty
Oh definitely….I feel with the gaming being themed with more of the sky, And the sword ruined, it’s going to be similar to skyward sword where you fix the master sword, not to mention How FI was shown to still be in the sword in the first BOTW where Zelda hears FI, it’s definitely looking like Hyrules fate is going full circle back to where it started

A Link To The Past has 2 upgrades avaliable to the Master Sword, each doubles the sword damage by 2.
The Tempered Blade after rescuing the missing smith, and the Golden Blade after freeing the fat Great Fairy.

and the golden sword fairy appears when you use the huge bomb at tge pyramid

I like Twilight princess, and thats 100% unrelated.
The problem is that it just never made sense when taken with the rest of the games.
My favourite is still OOT. Just the ancient feeling of the temple time gave it that oomph.
I never realized how similar alttp and oot's master sword pulls were, both about the same amount of time, both involved three amulet things one red, one blue, and one green.
There’s a theory that the pendants in ALttP were made from the spiritual stones in Ocarina of Time. The Hyrule Historia book also says that the Master Sword pedestal in ALttP is actually all that remains of the Temple of Time from Ocarina of Time. So in reality, it’s possible that ALttP Link is actually reenacting the same ritual to pull the Master Sword as the Link from Ocarina of Time.
The same goes for TWW where Link uses three pearls (which look very similar to the three pendants, minus the necklace part) to summon the Tower of the Gods, which is the gateway to Hyrule Castle - where the Master Sword is.
Windwaker had an awesome one too though, toon Link still one of the best ones imo

My favorite sword pull is a tie between Link to the Pasts and Ocarina of Times, Ocarina of Times is so iconic, and I’d be willing to argue is probably the most recognizable cutscene in gaming, but the compressed powerful sound of the pull in Link to the Pasts, followed by the harsh sound of wind blowing is so damn powerful
I really wish I could play Twilight Princess and Wind Waker again, those games were my childhood

Damn, now that I look back at twilight princess. The animations are much worse in the master sword cutscene than I remember. If you look closely, when link is pulling up the sword, they forgot to make two models. Which means the sword in the pedestal was anchored onto his rig. Which is why you can see shaking in the sword(It is connected to his wrist, so any wrist movement affects the sword). Also, when he does the main pulling animation, his right arm is just floating Infront of the sword.
(Edit: Oh, and also I just noticed. In the main pulling animation, the master sword isn't even in the pedestal. You have to look very closely though.)
I like how they perfected the pulling in Breath of the Wild, it's damn near seamless. No Shakey swords, no floating hands.

Something makes me think that link in botw is the true user of the master sword(as it says in game), but mainly because he is the only one to be different from every other link, one of the only right handed links, he wears blue instead of green, he has freedom more than any other, and his sword pull was a true test of courage, with his life on the line,and in none of the other games, does the sword glow as bright as it does in botw, not to mention he gave his life trying to save Zelda and the rest of hyrule,which is a sacrifice unlike any other.(To be fair OOT gave up 7 years and that’s quite the sacrifice,but botw gave up 100, not knowing if he would live again). If he is the true user, he is a good fit.

Hero Of Time never got to experience his childhood like literally every other human/human-like creature cause of everything he experienced in OoT and Majora's Mask on top of literally not being remembered by anyone at all for his heroic deeds in his timeline, died and continued to live on as the Hero's Shade so that one day he might be able to teach everything he learned throughout his journeys to a descendant of his (from the looks of it he probably wanted to like teach his child/children but he died before he could do that).
But Hero Of The Wild is still one of the coolest Links.
I think your favorite zelda game is botw and there's nothing wrong with that. But just to think that skyward sword link made the sword as it is now, you just can't compare to anyone. Not to mention that ss link proved not only courage, but also wisdom and power and even possessed the whole triforce. Ss link also has the best connection with the master sword, as he was literally stuck with fi his entire journey.
If there was a true user of the master sword that would be skyward sword link, the sword was literally made for him

My "first time" in this regard was "A Link To The Past" and in ecery game that followed my goosebumps grew bigger, as they always use the same genius jingle.

Question: in a link to the past they say "the master sword that makes evil retreat" and immediately all of the lost woods is cleared of all darkness. Did link end the curse of the lost woods in this game? I've never beaten the game but also never realized what happened there.

I finished the game with the L2 Master Sword and felt completely dumbfounded when I saw you can upgrade it twice.

It’s possible to beat aganum (I refuse to learn how to spell that name) without the master sword. Using the exploration glitch, you can go to a certain point in the walls to jump in and go through the second half of the hyrule castle dungeon. You can do it without getting the moon pearl or the magic mirror, but you will be softlocked, as after beating aganum, you will always spawn in the dark word.
