The point you bring up about not needing to be super accurate with the dimensions when modelling the existing structure other than the massing/exterior walls is something that took me a while to figure out. I was under the impression that there was a need to be precise with every dimension of the site, but after speaking with architect friends, I learned that's not necessarily the case.
