- Michael Grey asked Bill Livingstone to guest teach his lesson with Thomas Bruce. Bill walks us through one of his favourite tunes, "Lament for Mary MacLeod", the tune he played when he won the Gold Medal at The Argyllshire Gathering in 1979. He talks about his influences, especially Bob Brown, and thoughts about what piobaireachd is - and isn't.
Michael thanks for recording this and making it available... this reference videos is a wonderful way to capture Bill’s approach and insight. Thanks! 😊👍
Thank you so.much for this recording. with its very instructive discussion. This was the first piobaireachd I was taught and now many years later this discussion has taught me a major step forward.
Thank you Mike, Bill, and Thomas. Excellent video
Thanks, Dave! And thanks for sharing your inspiring journey!
Coming from you, that means a lot, thank you
Wow Michael! Thanks for posting this. My instructor suggested this tune to me the other day and stumbled on your video this morning looking for recordings. What a opportunity to hear what a master like Bill has to say about this tune and what HIS instructor's advice was to him. I sure look up to guys like you and Bill (and the rest of the crew from the 78th's back in the day.) Live in Ireland is hands down to this day one of my go to albums when wanting to just sit and have a listen and has been since I was a kid. Thanks again for giving everyone in the piping community a chance to hear what Bill has to say about Piobaireachd!
Take advantage of it! :-)

I know my borders, limits….I love and try to play bagpipes….but , for sure, I arrived too late to be able to perform a Piobaireachd…..THE GREAT MUSIC…
Well, Pedro, make sure your borders are wide with few limits! Enjoy your music! M
@@dunaber Thanks so much for your encouraging words!
Remarkably this is almost verbatim to the phrasing I was given by Patrick
