Lake Forest, IL: Metra, Amtrak and Canadian Pacific [Railfanning: 009]

A day of Railfanning at Lake Forest Illinois provides plenty of Metra, Amtrak and Canadian Pacific railroading. Located along the old Milwaukee Road, Lake Forest has a lot of great camera angles to catch the action.
This video was filmed before the Canadian Pacific Kansas City merger was completed.

When I worked nearby I drove thru there on the way home and would often stop and sit in the Metra lot there watching trains. There is a McDonalds across from the depot so I could get some vittles or drinks. In the late afternoon there was often several Amtrak, Metras and a few CP's in the span of an hour or two.

It was a VERY pleasant place to spend time watching trains. We popped into the Starbucks there to get a hot coffee since this was filmed in winter.

At Grayland just an hour or so ago, a northbound CP freight went into emergency on the east track. Amtrak 7 and 337 were routed to the west track under restriction. Looks like trains are now back on schedule out of Union Station.

Ha! I think my favorite Metra lines are the old C&NW routes. The left-hand running is something we don't see here on the East Coast! I have several videos about just that!
