    Me too! Rudolph's versions are so clever, with a lot of meaning and depth. Bolshoi's Raymonda is the only version I really love beside the POB. I like some other versions but I'm never fully satisfied. I think the POB's La Bayadère is best production of all.

    I must have a dozen versions of this saved! Yes, balancing on a single toe must be incredibly difficult but when it makes u feel nervous because she is wobbling, then it is no longer beautiful, to me. She does many other feats that are amazing. Is that the purpose? Nice to see some other -than-Russian dancers!

    Very true! One should have an open mind to watch any Nureyev's ballet. For exemple, his Romeo and Juliet is difficult to intake and to understand but when you understand the actual meaning for the piece, it's absolutely genius!

    So what? There is always a division of opinion. I can quote one of the previous comments: "Rudolph's versions are so clever, with a lot of meaning and depth". I'd add they're difficult in reception so they're not for everyone, also because of specific esthetics.

    Dorothee Gilbert is normally the best of the etoiles, but it looks like she was coming back from an injury here (?). That’s not how her arabesque used to look. See: czcams.com/video/plG4iP8y6KE/video.html

    Unfortunately when you see Kimin Kim and V Treshkinabor Calis Acosta and Nunez it is quite different!

    • @jillgooner
      @jillgooner Před 3 lety +1

      not a patch on nunez and acosta. she lights up the stage and everything she does seems without effort, She wobbles which is very unnerving and he looks unsure of himself. The musics rythme at times seems very slow and some of the choreography is too calculated and stiff. Nureyevs versions of ballets wernt everyones cup of tea as it was often over the top but that was his character in real life but everyone likes certain performances for different reasons.

    • @nicolehourcade
      @nicolehourcade Před 3 lety

      I agree but at present time the best pair i see technically and with a sparkling interpretation is definitely Kim and Tereshkina, of course Kim with Obratzova is also amazing, his Basilo is already a legend.When i saw him as Solor in Paris in 2015 ,invitation of Benjamin Millepied he was breathtaking and he won the “Benoit de la danse” for his Solor in Paris.

  • @Ewaasia
    @Ewaasia  Před 11 lety +5

    Indeed, it's really elegant and dignified choreography in some way. I love his versions of classics and now I cannot watch Sleeping beauty, Raymonda and DQ by others. I would add his Romeo and Juliet - it's absolutely wonderful and for me the best, but in case of that ballet I am able to watch McMillan's choreography which is also very good (but not as good as Nureyev's version for me).

      Ewaasia : j read here a comment j prefer dancer Noureev , j think also . Ballet Paris has all choreographies of Noureev very very bad : " La Tempête " " Two Brothers " " Washington-Square " , and also all versions Petipa by Noureev : only two ballets are in history-dance : " Romeo-juliette " and " La Bayadere " with Act III 100/100 Petipa and no more ! ! The others ballets are less good that coreographers at Paris 1) " Casse noisette " and " Sleeping-beauty " less good that Rosella Hightower versions 1983 2) Raymonda is not danced at Paris too demonstration technical with version Noureev 3) Swan-Lake men variations and nothing more 4) " Don Quichotte " what is this ? ? what more than others coreographers ? For me Noureev is in history Dance mostly as a famous Dancer and with his " La Bayadere and no more . There is on youtube also " Romeo-Juliette " by John Cranko , j prefer it . Fortunately Paris-Opera has one hundred choreographers and always News talents !

      david thefairy je suis heureuse de voir que le temps ne vous a pas donné forcément raison. Karl est une étoile appréciée, un danseur qui dure, danse encore tous les rôles du répertoire à 41 ans. Et à illuminé Don Quichotte malgré un physique qui décline un peu. C'est un superbe danseur

      @@charlottecha9590 : vous êtes bien jeune , il est évident que vous ignorez ce qu'est un Danseur étoile de l' Opéra de Paris . Je peux vous dire que depuis 1965 avec Cyril Atanassoff j'ai connu les célébrités de l'opéra de Paris : vous n'avez aucune idée de ce qu'est une étoile de l'opéra de Paris , première scène mondiale avec le Bolchoi et le Kirov et c'est normal . Le VHS a fait son apparition dans les années 77-80 et les films de ballets antérieurs à 1980 peuvent se compter sur les doigts d'une main ! et sur CZcams pas de vidéos des Danseurs étoiles de l'opéra de Paris ( parmis lesquels des Danseurs Internationaux ) avant 1975 , des Danseurs invités par toutes les grandes scènes mondiales et qui dansaient avec toutes les plus fameuses étoiles Internationales de l'époque , voilà ce qu'est un Danseur étoile de l'Opera de Paris . Wilfried Romoli nommé étoile très tard a beaucoup plus dansé que Paquette , Olivier Patey est resté premier Danseur , a bcp dansé aussi ( les Études de Lancer bien sûr ) . A mon avis une audience qui apprécie Paquette en temps que Danseur Étoile est le fait de personnes qui n'ont jamais vus les célèbres danseurs de l'opéra de Paris , c'est mon point de vue par expérience .

    • @r.r.c7692
      @r.r.c7692 Před 4 lety +4

      7 years ago. Whatever.
      There is no link between petipa and the current don quixote version, not even the story. Nowadays versions are based on Gorski's production (1900), he changed almost everything. Petipa hated gorski's version. Then a lot of changes happened during soviet era. The current "classical" version is from Pyotr Gusev (1946), it is still in mariinski's repertory.
      Among petipa's ballet, don quixote is the less authentic.

      Привыкшей к версии нашего любимого Мариинского театра, мне с трудом удалось сдержать раздражение. В нашей петербургской версии этот дуэт Китри и Базиля - это очень динамичный танец, это праздник молодости, песня любви,красоты ! А здесь, по - моему, полное непонимание смысла.Замедленный темп, "рваные" антимузыкальные паузы, манерничание иногда на грани кривляния, нарочитая демонстрация якобы апломба, который у хорошей танцовщицы должен быть "в крови", а не вымученная попытка долго постоять на ноге, какая то нелепая физкультура, иногда танец просто замирает. Зачем ??...
