    Set in legendary India, La Bayadere tells of the doomed love between the noble warrior, Solor and the beautiful temple dancer, Nikiya, who is murdered by her jealous rival, Gamzatti. Seeking solace after his beloved's death, Solor's opium hallucinations bring him to the Kingdom of the Shades, where Nikiya appears as a shade and forgives him for his betrayal. When the angry gods destroy the temple to avenge Nikiya's murder, Solor and Nikiya are forever reunited beyond the reach of man.

    The standard for POB étoiles has lowered more and more in the past few years. I respect Aurélie Dupont, i think she had a aristocratic, empress-like elegance on stage, but no pain, no heartbreak, no exaltation to be seen here. She wasn't even a technical prodigy whatsoever, so yeah, this is the étoile we've got...

    C'est une de mes variations favorites, donc peut-être que je vais être dure, mais je trouve qu'elle n'arrive pas à rivaliser avec la finesse et à la délicatesse d'Isabelle Guérin (à regarder ABSOLUMENT "Morte de Nikiya - La Bayadère"). Comparée à elle, Dupont balance ses bras sans aucune expressivité, donne l'impression de faire une succession de position (sans descente demi pointe), bien qu'elle ait de très bons équilibres. Elle maîtrise pas vraiment son corps, après peut-être que c'est voulu.

      Beatiroide their dedication to ballet is such higher than any other dancers in the world. What we mean also when we say “Russian ballet dancers” is referring to the technique they use, the Vaganova Method, which makes them much better dancers compared to dancers training in other techniques such as Balanchine

    • @beatiroide
      @beatiroide Před 4 lety +5

      @@celia3601 Vaganova training does not necessarily make you a good dancer, and I also think it's a matter of personal tastes. I do prefer French and English methods, for example, but I'd never say French dancers are better than Vaganova trained ballerinas because they're French(???) I don't like Balanchine's method, choreographies and approach to ballet, but I recognise that many great ballerinas of the past grew under his wings. Would you say that Somova is better than Nuñez, just because she is Russian? If we talk from a general perspective, I agree with you regarding the condition of ballet in Russia compared to the other parts of the world. But speaking about ballerinas, I do not agree at all.
      I'm sure I'm making a lot of grammar mistakes, please be kind to my ignorance lol.

    • @celia3601
      @celia3601 Před 4 lety +2

      Beatiroide yes, I would say Somova is better than Nunez just due to Somova’s training. Vaganova gives dancers a freedom in the upper body, making movements much more fluid. There are many more aspects of Vaganova Method that, in my opinion, makes ballet look better. Of course, being Russian doesn’t make you a greater dancer but every Russian dancer is trained in Vaganova, therefore making them superior. Also, French style ballet is based off of Vaganova so I may be pushing my luck here but that might be why you like French style😉

      I would like to thank you for introducing me to Russian primas in another videos few months ago and I am grateful, but I have to say that she did her own intepretation and it is unique. Her acting is more natural, more human-like, and not overfocused on techniques like Osipova, Zakharova, and Khoreva. Her costume also the most 50% accurate to which countries and dynasties it based on to, unlike the Russian ones. They actually buy an Indian costumes, not "something indian might wear while it is in fact a fusion of every East Asian traditional clothes". And no blackface too. But it is true that her body movement is too lyrical for a temple dancer, who supposed to be firm and fierce in her dance which acts as blessings. I always love Altynai's, Osipova's, Guerin's version for more old-school and Nuñez for modern ones. The techniques, intepretation, artistry, simply superb.
