    In this video, I remove and inspect my Lectric XP 3.0 wheel to ensure there are no spoke burrs waiting to puncture my new tube. My Lectric XP 3.0 bike came new out of the box with a rear flat tire. I have since replaced it with a tube I purchased from the local bike shop, but have reached out to Lectric for a replacement. They provided instructions on how to inspect the wheel to ensure there isn't an underlying issue that will cause future problems. They also mentioned I can take it to a bike shop for inspection and they can reimburse me for the cost. I opted to do it myself as the process is straightforward.
    Even though I haven't had an issue in over 150 miles, I figured it's best to double check as I don't want to be left on the side of the road miles from home with a preventable flat.

    Yep, just recently upgraded all the ebikes in the house to Lectric XP 3.0 and an XPedition and all 4 required me to take off the front tire, pull back that yellow protector and file down the spoke fasteners as many had sharp edges. Long post on reddit about this very issue.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Před 9 měsíci +2

      That’s crazy. Doing that on 4 bikes is no joke lol. I hope they figured out the production issue and now it’s just a matter of clearing those out of the system. I wish they inspected wheels here in the US prior to shipping them out. Might be a pain logistically but better than having everyone filing down fasteners.
      “No assembly required”…maybe just a little machining here and there.

    Hello Tom, I'm a XP3.0 e-bike rider. Just came across your video and when that day comes for me. I'm going to do it myself because taking it to the bike shop. It costs a lot of money for anything. right now It's hard because everything is pricing. It seems that it's not that hard to Remove.

    Mine arrived with a flat rear tire, and it had a leak on the rim side of the tube. So I doubt the slime would've worked anyway. Lectric sent two new tubes. Though I could not detect any burrs, I lined the rim with a layer of duct tape and added slime to the new tube.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Mine was also rim side but couldn’t identify anything that could have caused the hole. I have a feeling there were some defective tubes floating around.

    Had my Lectric for 2 months now. Also had a flat on the rear, but it did not show up for a couple days. The tube had a perfectly round hole about the size of a pencil led, on the center of the inside edge. Nothing visible in the rim to cause this either. Yes it did have a type of slime in it, and I suspect that is why it took a few days to show up. Ordered a pair of tube from Amazon. No more problems since.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      I have a new XP 3.0 out 40 intermittent miles in it. Bike was just parked by the house chilling when all of a sudden bike starts to slide against the house, rear tire lost air due to rear tube -side seam just split at the seam. Not even close to any spoke screws or any rough edges, intrusions. Real is challenging lifting it up into the dropouts. Don’t have a bike stand, propped bike up on a milk crate with 2x4 across it resting on that metal piece under frame in middle.

    Just wondering if you inflated the old tube after removing it and lining it up with the rim to see where the air was leaking out from and then you could inspect the area of the rim more thoroughly. Just wondering.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      So I did look at the tube orientation relative to the wheel and looked for sharp edges on the inner side of the wheel. Unfortunately I found nothing that would explain the flat. I’ve since replaced it and put roughly 250 miles on the bike with no issues. I think in my case is may have been a defective tube.

      I ordered two XP 3.0 Long Range mid December and they both arrived in perfect condition 6 days later. No issues to date except a stripped hex screw on a rear brake caliper. I found it when I was checking torque of all fasteners. The hex head was rounded out. Lectric customer service sent me out a complete set of front and rear hydraulic brakes systems. They said they don't stock individual parts/pieces so they sent the complete systems no charge in about four days. I couldn't be more pleased.

      @@chrisneuhaus7188 that’s awesome to hear! Yah I actually had an issue with one of the hex bolts rounding out on the Elite Headlight. Once I get it off I will replace it with another bolt from the hardware store. That’s great you got a set of brakes for free. I think many companies in that situation would direct people to their local bike shop to figure it out.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hmm, so the rear wheel bolts didn’t have any black caps on them, just the front. The motor wire snakes in on the inner side of the axle through the center of the rotor. Rear wheel pops off easily once you unplug the motor cable and remove the two main bolts and two smaller hex bolts.
