    Well the whole point of the Prequel Trilogy is about how everyone screwed up. The Clone Army is meant to be morally dubious. Obi wan's visit to Kamino was designed to be the exact opposite of Luke's trip to Dagobah in every way. To the scenery(Bright,Clean and Artificial vs Dark, Dirty and Natural) aliens(Tall, Elegant Technophiles vs Short, Toadish, Spiritualist) and topics(Artificially Created Clones vs the Naturally Occuring Force). As the Jedi noticed their strength in the force weakened they lost faith in it and adopted the crude matter of the Clone Army to fight for them. Dagobah is all about rediscovering their lost faith in the force.

      I am rewatching and now, that im older, I'm horrified- the war started because republic was unwilling to negotiate and release power. Jedi and all those rigtheous full of shit politicians- like Padme Amidala and Bail Organa- were so stuck up on holding on to power, they had zero problem with having slaves - clones- produced and thrown into battles.

      Anastasia B No, the Confederacy forced the Republic’s hand by trying to publicly execute a Republic government official and her protectors. The clones weren’t slaves, most of them willingly fought and died for their cause that they believed in. Only certain clones like Slick were slaves, slaves to a system that they thought was freedom, but was actually worse than where they came from, because they were not seen as human beings deserving of rights, but just a tool, a means to an end (being viewed as just disposable spies) unlike the Jedi that the clones were supposed to be serving under.

    I think the Clones, and by extension, the whole Clone Wars era, is my favorite thing about Star Wars, only just ahead of the Old Republic era. When you think deeply about every facet of their lives, everything they've done from beginning to end, the Clones have the most tragic life of anyone in the franchise. They're born to fight and die for something they don't even understand, yet they're intelligent, flesh and blood human beings. It's not like programming an army of droids, it's creating a slave army that doesn't realize it's enslaved. Imagine how much worse it could have been if they weren't placed under the command of the Jedi. At least they showed compassion, regard for each and every Clone life (the vast majority of them did, anyway). The Jedi gave them the chance to be real human beings instead of unthinking machines, even if they were still fighting a meaningless war for reasons none of them truly understood.

      The Confederacy of Independent Systems built Protodekas and The Harbinger. They reconstructed the Dark Reaper and tested it's use on Alaris Prime, decimating the Wookie population before they were enslaved.
      This was the "alliance for freedom" that worked with Trandoshan slavers against the Wookies on Kashyyyk.
      You think the Galactic Republic was so bad because poor people lived under their wing, and things were worse outside of their control where they didn't intervene? The Separatists held civilians hostage, attacked sovereign governments, and sowed further division among various species.
      If that wasn't enough, they sided with the Techno Union. The experiments they performed on alien life were most certainly against Republic law.

    I keep getting reminded about the Hitler Youth when it comes to clones, especially younger ones. Many members of the Hitler Youth where litterally born and raised to server the Nazis, having countless propaganda thrown in their faces. However, the most messed up thing is that many where sent into battle in their teen years, 16-18.

      @theguybehindyou4762 Před 6 lety +56

      The Hitler Youth were likely the most innocent members of the regime, but at the same time, they were also the most dangerous because they were more thoroughly indoctrinated, and thus were ticking time bombs, yet none of that could be blamed on them because, unlike those who started as adults, they knew no other way of life. :(
      That tragedy extends to child soldiers and children used as suicide bombers today; currently the most innocent but also the most dangerous in the long term.

    @bluelightstudios6191 Před 3 lety +19

    Here's my fan made version of what happened to the clones after the war:
    After the war ended, nearly the entire majority of all the clones who've survived the war all discovered that they have been wrongly done by the republic, they even realized that the reason for all of their suffering was all because of the kaminoans, their creators who slaughtered, enslaved, frankensteined and abused all of their clones. The clones decided to band together to get revenge against their oppressors so they gathered as many free clone troopers that they could and they secretly infiltrated kamino, they used their military skills to take over the server with the aid of the bad bunch, they had taken over the control room that controlled every clones inhibitor chip and they used it to create their own order 66, every clone in the radius of the signal all started to attack and kill their creators, the kaminoans who were jumped and frightened, immediately went to hit the kill switch for all of the clones in the galaxy but the bad bunch members Jessie and Tech had disabled it, they had disabled everything the kaminoans had to control their clones and soon, their creations were successful and had fully invaded kamino, the clones had taken complete military control over the cloning facilities, they freed all of their imprisoned brothers who were originally meant to be set for termination and the kamino race was completely exterminated on their homeworld.
    The clones, now in control of the planet that they all had came from, decided to adjust the cloning machines to their liking so that their future generations of clone brothers or sons won't have to be put through the same pain that they have for so long, they created their own clone society and made a treaty with the empire to lend palpatine as many clone bodies as they wish, as long as the clone bodies don't have sentience or is actually living and breathing and will only be used to transfer consciousness, in exchange the empire allowed the clones to have their independence on kamino and
    promised to never bother them, any kamino that had survived from the clone invasion on their homeworld have now went into hiding, are scattered across the galaxy and their numbers have dropped into the hundreds, meaning that they were now an endangered species. Some thought to band together and retake their world again but the clone army had *DOUBLED* in size, scientific research and they have made allies with the empire, not only that but the empire seized the moment to enslave some of the kaminoan people and they have forced them in secret to build new weapons and medical research to better the galactic empire..... and that's how I think the story should've been like.

    I remember watching Attack of the Clones back when it came out and being somewhat disturbed by the clone production process. But I was never much of a Star Wars fan, and I never read any books or watched any of the animated series. Recently my son has become obsessed with all things Star Wars so I have been watching both the movies and the Clone Wars series with him, and my heart goes out for the clones all the time. Even though some of the Jedi try to treat them with some compassion, more often they are treated just as much as connon fodder as the Battle Droids on the other side - and with no hope of "going home" at the end of their service. It's interesting how there is this tragic story right there in plain sight of what on the surface is a good guys vs. bad guys space opera.
    I have actually gained a lot of respect for George Lucas: sure, his writing can be cringy, etc. etc., and as a late-20's protohipster when the prequels came out, I dismissed them as trash. But to show a big Space War where both sides are morally compromised (and indeed, where the same people are behind the scenes pulling the strings on both sides) in a kids movie? That's pretty ballsy...

But even with all of that the jedi got most or all the credit when in reality they may have been miles away from the actual fight. Even though the clones were sentient beings who had feeling fears and felt pain they still were treated like nothing more then a science experiment. With all of this it makes you wonder if Palpatine was correct about the jedi all along and that they should have went extinct.

    I would argue the propaganda efforts to instill loyalty to the Republic is only a minor factors for why the Clone Army fought as hard as it did. For one, all the clones were grown in a communal training environment, and knew nothing else. Like the allegory of the cave scenario, it's hard to grasp freedom if you don't know or haven't experience it. Second, growing up in a communal system also instilled immense loyalty to both the system you are serving and the Soldier next to you. It's the number one reason why Soldiers in any military across history generally go back to the frontlines even if they have frequently experienced hardships. It's because they don't want to let their unit or Soldier next to them down. So for example, if you were to ask a German on the ground in the waning days of WWII, even when all hope was lost, why he was still fighting, the number one reason was for the person next to them.

    • @godsdj7316
      @godsdj7316 Před 5 lety +3

      The Republic's officer corps was small and largely ineffectual. They did not have enough officers to run the war effort after the Ruusan Reformation and several of them held old-fashioned mentalities that viewed soldiers as expendable. Without the Jedi, you're still looking at poor tactics and dead clones.
      One might argue that the Republic could have placed clones in-charge, but that really doesn't change the situation. The clone lieutenants, captains and commanders were versed in tactics and capable of informing their Jedi. The Jedi were capable of learning about tactics themselves, and had the physical capabilities to protect their troopers far beyond the capacity of an ordinary officer.
      Some Jedi treated their clones like cannon fodder, as some ordinary officers did. Any Republic officer looking to betray the Republic for the Separatists could have used Krell's methods, costing those thousands.
      The Jedi cannot be appropriately blamed as a whole due to the fact that there was nobody stepping up to take the positions they were to be given. Mass execution does not provide any appropriate justice for the actions of a few awful Generals, one, that being Krell, was already dead at the time.
      The clones' anger would have been more appropriately directed at the Galactic Republic, which allowed the Jedi, an order of peacekeepers, to become officers and then kept them there. The Republic cut corners on most of their military projects and did not train enough officers fast enough, which was ultimately Sidious's plan: to put the Jedi in a position where they had to lead lest there be no leaders, watch them fail, then turn the democratic republic into a dictator-led imperium that had it's own officer corps plentifully stocked.

    5:25 they should make that canon, I do love me some stories about Clones getting to have happy lives outside of the Republic or refusing Order 66 becoming Rebels.

    One thing I keep thinking about is that, if the republic won the clones wars, how would retired clones be treated. Would they be accepted into societies, or even governments, or would they be segregated, like aliens in the empire, or to compare in our history, like blacks in America

      They probaly would have a hard time getting into civilian life. A better comparison would be real veterans coming home from war and being introduced to civilian life again

      Alonzo Aldaba It was mentioned in the video. They would be segregated in retirement homes, and while you may think that only the Empire used them retired clones were the old and INJURED ones.
      Infact I think the Empire treated them better than the Republic would have ever done by trying to find a way to counter the deterioration.

      We don't know that the clones were forcibly segregated for their retirement. More than likely they were stuck on planets close to the Outer Rim and encouraged to act as labour for farms and whatnot, which isn't far off from how the Old Republic treated their person-born troops. It's obvious that they weren't censored given the fact that this 501st trooper got to recount what occurred during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War.

    The creation of the clones is very depressing topic that only fuels my hatred for the kaminoans and my distain at the tactics used during the battle if Geonosis

    The Clone trooper Slick had a really good point: He betrayed the Republic because he hated that his brothers were being used for slavery. He wanted them to be free.

      Any time we get a leader who wanted to normalize and get along with Russia (like right now), bullshitters and warmongers force them to keep up the nonsense. Which is a real shame too, if we could actually put an end to the pointless hostilities, Russia and America could achieve absolute wonders. Besides, our countries have more in common than we do with most of our "allies."
