    This is the first episode in a series that will show you how to make pixel art game characters, from the idea phase, to animation all the way to making sprite sheets and importing it all into Unity !

      Chibril too bad they’re using an EXTREMELY expensive program for it and this tutorial is useless if all you have is a phone or tablet from sony or apple. 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

      Photoshop is hardly an extremely expensive program. Photoshop CC can be licensed for as little as $10 US a month.

    7:31 There is something very important you missed - hue shifting. Shadows should generally be drawn with colder colors, like blues and purples, while the lit areas should be drawn with warmer colors, such as yellows or reds. You should almost always make a difference in the hue depending on the lighting in the area. In the example you showed, the darker green would have a blue tint, while the lighter green would have a yellow tint.

      @@SaadTheGlad drag the hue selector closer to warmer or colder colors depending on what you want.
      for example, you have a red hat.
      purpler shadows oranger highlights

      Well that's most of the time.
      Let's say you drawing a Burning skull with horns, on a 50x50 paper.
      You're gonna have a bad time.

    :O YOU CAN MAKE THE BLACK OUTLINE MATCH THE INNER COLOR!!! I'm not being sarcastic :O I'm actually blown away by this. I have been working on my pixel art style for two months now and I always just drew a black outline. Says something about my creativity level ':D And the white to create light spots gives it a whole new depth too.

You gave me so much inspiration and and even bought one of your udemy classes. Your art always amazed me and your "Juicy " UI was spectacular.     Also when shading/highlighting you can use a technique called hue-shifting; which will really help your pixel art 'pop'. When you want to add shading, lower the saturation and brightness of your color and shift the hue toward blue. Do the opposite for highlighting, but shift the hue toward yellow. This is to kinda mimic how light works in the real world :)

    4:57 or you can bring the picture onto your "canvas" and change the opacity so it is still visible but not as much, then make another layer and draw on top of it.

    Pro Tip: when shading, if you choose black, then you can just adjust the alpha or it and it will give you a consistant darker version of every color.

    I recommend keeping highlights from the very edge. There's a thing called anti-aliasing, which is just a dot of the darker shade at each corner, and looks quite good.

    try to add some gradual hue shift to darker colors (blues, purples)with shade and lighter colors (yellows, lime greens) when highlighting. it adds a little more depth. also change saturations

    Awsome video but one thing I would like to point out is that insted of changing the colour from lighter to darker shade, just shift the hue to a yellow shafealong with it.

    Been using PS since 1996 and I am at a loss as to understand how, at 4:48, you managed to get another window (of your sketch) to float above the window you were working in (!)
    One thing I have always loved about @Adobe applications are the number of different ways of being able to do things and discover completely new techniques! I look forward to this being explained … anyone?

    You arent changing the hue when changing shades. To put it in basic terms, for instance, Cold shadows are on the blue side of the spectrum and warm sunlight is on the red to yellow,green side of the spectrum.

    A cool PSA for all your artists wanting to start out with pixel art, there's this pixel software thats specialized to create pixel art! It's PyxelEdit and still in its beta phase but very much affordable without needing photoshop at all! It's like $12USD and there is a bit of a learning curve to create pixel art but it's definitely available for those who are on a tight budget or for the beginners like me!

    Hey, I've got a question: I did a pixel art chracter in PS on a 164 * 164 canvas and painted a character thats like 65 * 65 pixels big. Now i wanted to import it in my unity project so I saved it as a .png . But when i scale it up or even zoom into my png it gets really blurred even though i thought that no matter how big you scale it that it always keeps sharp as it is just a few pixels ..... Can anybody help me ? :DD

    Some times rather than starting with outlines, it's better to draw shapes made of flat colors that you then fill in with shading and detail.. that's the approach i take now days.. Outlines don't look as nice and make things pop less..
    Also, larger sprites will have greater detail and are often easier to work with...

    When you shade you shouldn't just use a darker tone o the color
    To better results you also should get diferente hues

    Do you recommend any tool or process on how to rotate pixel art without lossing too much quality? With PS when you rotate it gets very blurry and low quality. Or do you always need to redraw different angles?

    Great video, but i have one nitpick. For pixel art shading you really shouldnt take the color and just make it darker, but change the color a bit as well. For example if you have a red you should make it a bit darker and then go slightly towards purple. This will make the shading feel more real.
