Trevor. You should be able to use the larger clutch from a mid 90's f250 with the 351/5.8 and the zf5 transmission (11 inch vs the mazda m5od 10 inch) as long as your flywheel is drilled and tapped for both sizes of pressure plates. Also in my experience with the ford trucks that I have messed with I have had nothing but bad luck with cheap clutch kits. I would only suggest Valeo or luk. The 11 inch Valeo I have has held up well in my 393 stroker bronco what I have no mercy for.

Awesome series so far!! Next “cheap vehicle” type challenge should be a couple of Vics! The budget V8 stuff is awesome.
Also, for anyone who doesn't know, this track is at 5000ft elevation. So NA engines are about 15-20percent down on horsepower vs sea level.
1 step hotter plug, may help SOME N/A builds at attitude. I tried a set on a ride up the mountains, made a big difference.
You'd want to play with timing, as I did, to get the safest cylinder pressure, makes more torque, improved lower RPM performance, where I needed it.
@@hegeliandetective1034 we are using stock heat range on the LS but haven't messed with timing yet. Also down a cylinder too so that's not helping lol
@@Shiftheads I'm praying for ya, that the leak is one of the valves that just need decarbed and worked in with some valve lapping grease.
Lapping all valves, replacing valve-guides, would be a great thing, while you're already in there doing the cams/springs.
If it's a rocker/lifter LS, the lifters/rockers probably need some polishing, and then it'll run mint. (if it's not, disregard)
If you do go with more air, 1 step range colder, to get more higher RPM steam, may be the ticket to beat Trevor with a turbo. Good to have a set of both, either 1 step hotter, or 1 step colder, just to test out where your power range prime target is, with your drivetrain, in relation to what is needed to beat Trevor's Turbo-5.0
@@hegeliandetective1034 yeah we're guessing the valve just has some crap around it. We are gonna get heads disassembled and cleaned up. New guides, springs, trunion upgrade for rockers. We pulled valve covers and rockers were good so probably just the guide or valve

The 5.3 I'm not sure what it is it seems like a governor that cuts the speed at 97 until you are down to about 93. that's how my 2000 chevy was
that ranger needs the 4.10 rear axle if it doesn't already have it, my 3.0 has it and it rips for what it is lmao
We both tried to find 4.10 pull outs but just couldn't find one anywhere so they both have 3.73

Also, you might want to get/build some sort of traction bars, slapper bars should get the job done, and all you need is some metal and a couple of bump stops

Trevors ranger definitely needs a turbo. My old 2.3 5 speed ranger ran low 18s all stock.

4.0 trucks have run high 15s and the 3.0 like the white truck had are high 16s-17s. We are at 5000 ft elevation though so missing 15-20 percent of the horsepower NA

Stock 5 liter makes less power than my 4 liter V6 , amazing what a few years of developments in engine tech can do . Makes me want to see what my quarter mile would be with 220 HP and an automatic transmission .
The rods maxpeedingrod makes are pretty good
OH btw, Viking part number C205-RST fits the front you just have to open the spring pocket some to clear the 2.5 spring. ;)
Did the 5.3 hit the speed limiter? That would feel like hitting a wall? What ecu does it run? Hp tuners and remove speed limiter

After the drag racing is done I would like to see outside modification. Maybe someone dose air bags and the other is on hydraulics. Some wide body stuff ??? Carry the series on to make awesome mini trucks.
Your clutch pedal needs some free play. The piston in the master cylinder is past the fill hole, sealing the slave off from the reservoir. When it gets hot, fluid in the slave and hose can't expand into the reservoir so it pushes on the slave.
May take a Stage-1 clutch. BUT... you might be able to de-glaze the clutch, with file(not sanding paper because of the glue).
You could try the billy-bob way, without removing parts, quick-half-drop the clutch up and down, not fully engaged/disengaged, on different revs in an attempt to clear off the clutch glaze.
I had an s-10 with a 327 that ran 8.2s in the 1/8th with a bum carb, bad converter and bfg comp t/a street tires lol
