Documentary exploring the events leading up to former US Postal Service worker Jennifer San Marco's vengeful 2006 attack on former colleagues and an old neighbour, in which she shot and killed seven people before taking her own life in Goleta, California.
San Marco's ex-school friends, survivors, criminologists and eye-witnesses to the rampage combine testimonies to determine what drove her to take such desperate measures.

I was working that day on overtime, since it was normally my day off. I knew Jennifer San Marco quite well, she would sit with me sometimes at lunch, wanting to know how to buy stocks which I knew a lot about. I also knew everyone she killed, they were my co-workers who I had worked with everyday for years. When she started she was a great worker and very friendly, but after about a year that changed and she became a complete different person. Many believed that she had stopped taking her medication but no one really knows. I first noticed it when I said "Hi Jennifer" and she didn't respond but gave me an angry look. I thought maybe I had offended her in some way, I just didn't understand it because she had spoken friendly to me almost everyday for more than a year before that.
Anyway, the night it happened, I heard the gunshots while I was scanning Priority Mail and then everyone started to run to the dock where the trucks were, for safety.
Dexter Shannon was one week away from retirement. Charlotte Colton was actually not a supervisor like the video says, but an employee trainer. She actually was not working that night, she had just popped in for a few minutes to leave off some paperwork, even though she could have done it the next morning. Also not mentioned in the video, a deaf employee that Jennifer really liked when she worked there, was at the time clock ready to leave when she spotted him. He later told me she smiled at him and then went on her way, he was spared!
Also not mentioned in the video, right after she shot Charlotte Colton, she aimed her gun at the head of a lady employee who would have been killed for sure, except for the fact that her gun jammed, giving time for that employee to escape.
I had worked at that office since 1989 and loved working there, but after that happened in 2006 it just wasn't the same. I happily took early retirement in January 2013, after 23 years.
Of course, it is a day I will never forget.

Back in the late 1980s I worked at a USPS facility as a Casual Laborer. I was hoping to get a permanent job with the postal service. However, after my first contract was over I noticed that there were quite a few odd people that worked there. People with borderline emotional and mental issues, especially on the graveyard shift. I changed my mind about working there soon after.
There was also a lot of sexual impropriety going on especially in the parking lot. In the morning after my shift I had to be careful where I stepped, because I didn't want to step on any used condoms. Very disgusting, and the worst part was that supervisors and management were well aware of this. There was a lot of drug use and mail theft too.
Needless to say the work invironment was not very healthy. The final insult is that most of the time you can't fire these federal government employees, because of their union, and the laxed policies of the post office. I was sexually harrased on several occasions by both men and women as well, and nothing was really ever done!
The postal service is a breeding ground of dysfunction, bad and even criminal behavior, and resentment.

Mental hospitals (at least ones I've been in as a visitor) are dirty, disqusting, horrible places, staff terrifying patients, most patients were so drugged up they were like zombies. Mental hospitals not only need to be cleaned/revamped, better trained staff including the so called Drs.
It seems people who may need mental health treatment simply do not matter. Patients are nothing more than $$ in deep pockets Mental hospitals are institutions to keep people drugged & locked up. Thank goodness in recent years, it is very difficult to have someone involuntarily committed, in the past it was quite easy. Getting a person out was even harder. These institutions would put people in straight jackets and then stick them in isolation for long periods for the smallest reason, that's not treatment for any mental illness! I watched a patient who was speaking in a loud voice (not causing any disturbance), get tackeled, put in a straight jacket & thrown onto a stretcher and drugged (by at least 8 staff members) and then moved to isolation. No warnings given, staff did not tell patient to lower voice at any time. The patient had no idea what was going on or why and was screaming in fear.

When I asked the doctor since it was a new script, what side affects I should be aware of so I can contact him. He just looked at me and scowled, you can GOOGLE it. Even many drug rehab centers only care about money. And psychology is a pseudo science. I have seen some therapists suggest EFT 'cures' Combat/Complex PTSD. Other therapists just let people talk and talk and talk as long as you can pay, that is all they care about (I know someone who went to a therapist for over 20 years, and she gets freaked out when he goes on vacation for a few weeks) I think there needs to be better standards/accountability in the mental health industry, then I would be open to having more tax dollars spent on helping those in need. If she never threatened anyone or did anything that implied she was a danger, nothing could be done to "lock her up" or get her help. Adults have the right to choose when they get care for medical/psychological issues 99% of the time, and sometimes people never choose to get help or are too far gone to realize they are sick. Why does no one bother to research how truly complex this issue is before running their mouths spreading bad information? Uninformed opinions are not facts.

I worked for the Postal Service for 10 years. It was a playground for workplace harrassers, supervisors that would come up behind people and slap them or poke them. One isolated a woman co worker and pulled down his pants in front of her. Good paying job with great benefits, but I hated every minute of it. Glad I left and found something else to do.

    • @Spiritualchick82

So glad I got out, too! I worked at the post office for nearly three years, and that was long enough for me to know I will never want to work there again. Yes, they pay is good, but the emotional and physical abuse was absolutely horrendous. They constantly traded me out to other post offices, where I came in to do the majority of the work, while the regulars got to take it easier and basically loaf off. The harder you work, they only reward you with More hard work. The lazy ones are promoted, which allows them to loaf off even more. My off days could change at the drop of a hat.
I burned out quick. They work you like a dog, and the work/life balance was Terrible. 6 days a week in the post office is a kind of hell I Never will return to. Human beings were just not meant to work like that. On my orientation before starting the job, I remember the guy who spoke to us say "you will not have much of a life, but you will make good money!" Then he rubbed his fingers together in a pantomime of counting dollar bills.
I knew at that point while sitting in that class, that I had gotten myself into something that was not going to be very good to my soul or spirit. Nothing on this earth is worth choosing money, over emotional stability and physical health. Truly a toxic workplace, on the highest level. This is why people go crazy there.

I had to be escorted out of the building because the supervisor who interviewed me was so rude I cursed her out. If one of my female relatives had been there Lord knows what would've happened. I told my wife, a good Christian woman, and she wanted to pay this "lady" a visit.

Perhaps you've had a sheltered life, Ms. Taylor, and perhaps you're young. I apologize for splitting hairs here, it's just that the term 'homicide' refers to any deliberate killing of a human being, including during time or conditions of war, or in self-defense or defense of others. Perhaps, as well, you've been raised to believe that women should be meek and submissive to the point of helplessness. If so, I think that this is tragic, and I hope that you become a stronger person, because your children, if you have any, will need you to fight for them if necessary. Finally, allow me to say that I don't think that you know yourself as well as you think you do.

This happens every day in this world. Nobody wants to get involved with people who are bullied, has mental problems, sits alone by themselves, depressed, etc. Only when the people commit violence or harm themselves, is when the people around them, speak up and or regret not doing something about it. All these people needed, in reality, was friends and or people who they can talk to. Going to mental counseling, or put in a mental clinic or institution, won't solve their problems. Real people, like you and me, can help them in big ways because we're real, not someone being paid to help them or listen to them.

We don’t talk anymore but luckily she has support with some decent family and has help remembering to take her meds.. 💚it’s truly sad and scary to see a person close to you going through that especially when you have your own diagnosis you gotta live with day in and day out…it’s a struggle balancing the maintenance of that, full time work and stability ..but I’m still here…prayers to the victims of this tragedy and all the families it had affected.. 🙏🏾🙏🏾😥
