- The last of the UK's Deep Coal mines closed in Nottinghamshire. History and pictures of the Closed Clipstone Colliery. and Thoresby Colliery the most productive and one of the last to close. A sad demise of a once great industry that started the industrial revolution.
The once great nation that Built Ships of the Worlds Nations, and invented the railway. The last link with Britain's Illustrious industrial past has now gone. The Lights may now go out!
It is a great shame that every industry in Britain is not seen as important, a great film, thank you.
I'm glad this great structure isn't getting demolished, none should be demolished honestly so my generation and the next generations can learn about the past.
Yes I totally agree , reminders of Great Britain's past needs to be preserved . It's a reminder of the Great nation we once was.

My father worked down Dean Chapter as a Bevan Boy he said they were the best years of is working life he moved to Corby to Steel works and then as a welder to Allis Chalmers . He would always go back to is roots of Skinningrove and go and see mine before it closed . The hard bit for me I live again a awfull town of Grantham and they are going to put up monument of Thatcher . One day not in my lifetime but they may want some coal again . You can't beet a coal fire and a slice of bread on a little fork for toast
Yes steel works will always need coal , until nuclear fusion can produce the energy needed , coal will always be king , and Britain no longer produces Coal that fired the industrial revolution that changed the world , but British scientists are and will be the World Leaders in Nuclear Fusion , a new form of energy. The Tory government closed the coal mines for the wealthiest of the pension funds . Tory government is corrupt. The Tory government’s don’t support British industry only themselves.Should never never be trusted especially with the current corrupt clown we have us PM . Watch this place things may change every soon . Here’s hoping, kind of thinking The current corrupt PM will be gone very soon. Here’s hoping! My Great great Grandfather was manger of Tilmanstone Colliery in Kent .
There was a vote on whether or not to demolish the Clipstone head stocks, the people who wanted to demolish them lost by 8 votes. A few years ago, the Chad (a local newspaper) did a survey and the majority of those who lived in Clipstone wanted Clipstone Headstocks gone.
Merthyr open cast coal mines still going in South Wales
2019 & nearly all of thoresby has been levelled & kellingley has long gone clipstone still remains

@@standrewpics i assume that its all gone now as i went there 2019 & its 2 years since i went, back then they only had a couple of the buildingss left

Wow! Keep it Keep it! Keep it! restore! estore it! Grade 2 listing is a step forward.
Should we give it to English Heritage? Would they respect it? Would they rather pump the money into another' stuffy Stately home? Regardless of its appeal, this should be kept for future generations to come, a relic of our Heritage
I am not too certain that any of these pit buildings remain today. I spoke to the security chap at the security gate Nottinghamshires last deep coal mine . I was informed that it will all be demolished. Visited a few years ago . Not far off A1 , will have to have a look the next time I pass by.
kellingley colliery was the last ever pit to close
Thoresby closed July 2015, Kellingley closed December 2015.

One of the highest shaft´s in Europe is the Schacht 4 from Mine Göttelborn in Germany, with 295 foot.

It is a shame that this industry get destroyed all over europe.
Hardest workers in the country were us miners don't care what anybody says,8 miles out under the North Sea with 66 million gallons of water pumped out every week can you see the youth of today going down,no chance,we should get the biggest pensions of any workers bar none.
I recall as a teenager working down the deep mine in the 80's.
I was on nights and had just completed my training.
The men I worked with, on my snap break, mainly coal face worker's .
Threw my sandwiches away and tipped over my coffee.
I was rough handled, shoved to the waste side of the stage loader on broken rocks and had my overalls pulled off me.They had a laugh at my expense.
Not even allowed to eat my piece of bread in peace, or a drink of cold water,my coffee thrown away by the men.
I thought (incorrectly) that miners were supposed to look out for each other.
Seems I was mistaken.
I think sometimes these mining communities don’t like outsiders , they are known to be very militant.
I have also had experience working in an ex mining community
Britain was built on coal everything we have is because of coal. We must never forget that.
yes agree Britain was the worlds biggest industrial power , now unfortunately country’s like China producing things cheaper are the worlds biggest industrial countries . I now think green technologies could help rebuild Britain as an industrial nation.
No I don't believe it the Torys said they would keep Notts open 😂
Labour still closed more pits than the torys. WMD Blair, New Labour, was in power for around 10 years and never opened a new colliery.
