    Lyrics:
So rare, You're like the sparkle of old champagne
    Orchids in cellophane
    Couldn't compare to you
You are perfection you're my idea
Of angels singing the Ave Maria
For you're an angel, I breathe and live you
With every beat of the heart that I give you
So rare, This is a heaven on earth we share
    Caring the way we care
Ours is a love so rare

Of all the superb bands of the day, I think Carroll Gibbons and the Savoy Hotel Orpheans were the best. Peerless!

The music of Carroll Gibbons is a unique window in history looking out on the free world. It is a place of complete peace, nourishment of the soul, and confidence for a better future to be secured. In this era populations were bearing the brunt of the screaming rantings of a demonic leader who was smashing up European civilization. In contrast , this music steadfastly held people together. Today, the same qualities shine through like golden sunlight, and are unchanged through the passage of time.

I've been searching for this for ages! It was used as background music in a video by Jack Currie, called "Lancaster Target". Lovely to hear it again.

i doubt whether any version of this will ever top Jimmy Dorsey's rendition.

I prefer the earlier takes from the late 30s of this song. They're much more sophisticated and mellow. Jimmy Dorsey's was a little too over-the-top for my tastes, but I guess he went out with a boom. Since he died a few months later after its release.

Dorothy's version is the very first one l ever heard. But this one with the piano introduction just adds a atmosphere of elegance from another era. In my minds eye l imagine elegant ladies in long flowing dresses, men dress in tuxedos, beautiful ballrooms.....wow they actually dress like that, Just to go to town!!!. Dorsey's 1950s version never did that to me and l love Dorsey
