    The cruise port is on the north side of the island, As you are leaving the port area and walking south on Parliament St. you will pass Rawson Square to the left. In this square is a statue of Sir Milo Butler, the first governor general of the Bahamas. Directly across the street from Rawson Square is Parliament Square, these pink buildings are government buildings. There is a statue of Queen Victoria situated in the center of the square.
    To the south of the government buildings is the Garden of Remembrance and an octagonal-shaped building that was originally constructed as a jail in 1797. in 1879 it was converted to a library, reading room and museum. Prison cells which once housed prisoners now store books, charts, historical Arawak artifacts, newspapers and colonial documents.
    Heading East (that is left) on Shirley St. you can walk a couple blocks until you come to Elizabeth Ave., turn south on Elizabeth and go past the Princess Margaret Hospital on your left. You will come to the alley way that leads to the base of the Queen’s Staircase.
    The 66 stairs leading up to the fort were hewn out of solid limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794 and it is said that it provided a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City. These steps were later named in honor of Queen Victoria, who reigned in Britain for 64 years from 1837 to 1901.
    At the top of the stairs, a quick turn to the right will take you to Fort Fincastle. If the fort is open on the day of your visit, I highly recommend you pay the nomimal fee to go up in it. From the top of it you can see almost the entire island.

      This ship was once named the "Triumph" that hosted the infamous ten day POOP trip caused by an engine room fire that shut down the toilets and HVAC. People had to crap in plastic bags, sleep in tents on deck because of the heat, and pee in shower stalls....people starting hording food that must have smelled like poop and to a point where they ran out of food before getting back to port... it was reported as the Worst Cruise Voyage experience on record for which Carnival was sued by a number of passengers claiming bodily or mental harm because fights broke out.
      After this debacle it hit a Navy Frigate on another voyage that caused injuries'.. after that it it was renovated, repainted and re-named the " Sunshine" Yes...this is the same cursed ship. How is that for the Twilight Zone? Would anyone now want to pre-book a cruise on this same vessel? The storm that hit this cursed ship came out of nowhere!!!

    Melinda! Great video. 😃 So much to do and see. This was your last port? Coming home? ☹ For me, going home from an adventure was sad. It 's back to the grind of life. You have to go home to start another one. 😃 There is another one in the works for you and Melissa? Yes? I need more snacks. 😲😬 .......................... 😎👍👍

      Yes, more content is in the editing phase. Hopefully we can keep kicking them out. I have another cruise coming up next week and will be collecting more footage, so I won't be editing any videos during that time. Thanks for watching and the encouragement! Catch you in the next video.

    Boy, that is cool. I love that old prison building. I wonder if it was the same colors back in the day?

    • @MidLifeStyleTwins
      @MidLifeStyleTwins  Před rokem +1

      I am sure the colors have changed since back in the day. Fact: in the Bahamas, govt buildings are the pink, police stations are green and schools are a golden rod color. Color coding is a neat idea. Thanks for watching!

    About to take the cruise in a few days . Since you lived in the Bahamas, is there a establishment that rents scooters or golf carts near deport , in order to check out the sites at our leisure ? Thx in advance

    • @MidLifeStyleTwins
      @MidLifeStyleTwins  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No golf carts but they do have scooter rentals. The port is not big so you will find them easily. I am not sure where they are located now. Be careful though! The traffic is awful and it can be kind of dangerous. If you do get a scooter, the island is only 21x7 miles and can be circumnavigated. The southwest side of the island is beautiful. Again, be careful! Enjoy your cruise!!!!!

    Nice and informative video. Great scenery and tourism areas, over abundance of food and entertainment.....but, not my cup of tea. Put me on a large sailboat barefoot and island hopping and I would be ecstatic!

      Sailboats are too small for me. I would be so seasick. But I understand.
