Fellow rural Minnesotan here. About to do a ps pump on my 98 Tahoe this weekend. This video was immensely helpful and informative. Certainly helps we speak in the same dialect 😂
Best video I've ever used for "How To. The Chevy in the video was identical to mine as well as the identical Power Steering pump with EVO. So far my project is going like clockwork. Only exception so far was buying the wrong pump. Delays delays ... Thank you for such a descriptive production. I'm not a mechanic and I rely heavily on CZcams How To's. Eric
thanks for the video. I am changing the power steering pump on my 98 silverado. I always watch several videos for multiple ideas/opinions, but I like your video best. I like the idea of taking out the pump while attached to the compressor bracket. I think it makes the pump removal easier.
@Gregg Brown get a heat gun and apply to the pulled for a few minutes. It will expand and make removal and installation much easier. Also, apply grease to pump shaft for ease of pulley install. Make sure to bleed pump of air before turning on the engine. With both tires lifted, turn side to side 20x all the way right and left to expel the air. You will see bubbles in reservoir come to the surface. It went great.
99k k2500 burb, removed to rebuild kit $10 couldn't get that 30mm off. No socket or torque driver... Just put it all back together I was POed At least it got fresh fluid
Getting ready to do this on a 98 Tahoe. Looking at other videos of the same, I don't think it is necessary to remove the a/c or that bracket, correct? The pump should come loose after the 3 bolts in the front and then those couple nuts, or am I wrong?
@@RinksGarage Is it also by choice, but not necessary I hope to not need to remove the whole entire dang radiator😂? I understand maybe getting the fan out-of-the-way is that also necessary. I need to do this on my 98 suburban today literally .
Do yourself a favor and delete the Evo. If you’ haven’t done this yet ..You don’t need it nobody ever does they go bad they leak sooner or later. Buy the GM or Dorman evo delete tube and fitting kit
Is there an Allen bolt you take out of the power steering pulley before you use the pulley puller? If so what size is it. I'm examining it I can't figure
There is not an Allen bolt that needs to be taken out before pulling the pulley. Some of the pumps have an Allen hex in the end of the shaft which I’m guessing is used to assemble the pump when it is new?
There is an Allen head bolt in the front of my p/s pump pulley. 3/8 in size. Have not been able to get it out yet. Course I have not even began to try yet.
@@CSTonini21Agree the evo is a garbage unit they all go bad and leak Best to delete it with the Dorman delete kit or use a 1996” high pressure hose specifically from a 96 year Silverado as well as the output fitting
What are ya doing???? Holy Toledo you just remove the fan shroud. Pulley puller? Buy new pulley off of eBay. Cutting torch the old one. Hell the pulley puller will fit just fine with fan shroud off and a crescent wrench. We ain’t nascar
New pulleys are around 30 bucks for one. Two, you want to keep your core exchange in good condition, so you can get your core refund. Not everyone has enough coin to just throw money away.
Man I’ve been doing this power steering pump sense 10 this morning, it’s 6:45 now 😂

GOD THIS IS THE Install Bomb Video may save my 1 ton 1998 silverado.

At 26:50 when installing the bracket to the truck, why did you not start the bolts by hand to avoid cross threading?
Where did you buy the pulley puller from
And what brand is this. I’ve looked online and can’t find this particular style
What is the number on the power steering pump with Reservoir that you used in the video
Take your bud sign down..😂
Where did you get those o rings from? Site?
👍👍
At 18:00 When you were on the floor, Why did you not use the impact wrench to break the bolts holding the pump to the bracket?
Can't you drain the radiator by simply removing the bottom hose?

Correct, it should slide out after removing the bolts. I removed the bracket for easier removal & installation of the hoses.
Yeah he was doing extra things so just an all at once job instead of here and there

@@Chevro91You do not need to remove the radiator. I only did because I was replacing it anyway.
What kit were the 3 o-rings a part of on that speed sensor?

What pulley puller tool did you use? Can’t find one that fits my 98 1500
google "no slip pulley puller installer" It will get you what you need.
Shouldn't you replace cooler too with psp?
High there. What brand of power steering pulley puller is that?

Hello do you know if this pump is hydroboost or vacuum?
This one has vacuum boosted brakes
a solvent sprayer works wonders for that..about all they are good for with the price of solvent these days.
I have a 98 silverado does it have the evo power steering pump

Do auto parts store rent this tool out ?
Yes
Can’t find one that fits my 97. It’s a completely different connection where the speed sensor goes what the hell
Find an EVO delete or bypass valve. It’s not a necessary sensor. Removing it will NOT trigger a check engine light.
