Microsoft Windows Whistler Startup and Shutdown Sounds

- These are all of the sounds used in each build of Whistler. Whistler did not in any build use the sounds you've heard in many videos ( • Fake Windows Whistler ... ). Those sounds were fake and I actually showed how they were made in another video ( • How The Fake Windows W... ). I did a remake of the sounds in that video and it was accurate except for my terrible job at timing the sounds.
I checked every single sound to make sure they are right. For those who think I am wrong with builds 2481-2486, I am not. Windows XP sounds were first included in 2481 but 2481-2486 used Windows 2000 sounds by default. Windows XP sounds were not used until build 2494.

2485 was the first build to use XP sounds, not 2494.
Actually, it was 2481

It's crazy to think that they went from the ancient looking Windows 2000/ME to the modern look of Windows XP in just 1 or 2 years.
That length of time seems typical for development of a Windows OS back then. I think that they were probably also in a hurry to get Whistler out after they cancelled Neptune and Odyssey. They were originally going to make two OSes for two different purposes (Neptune for home and Odyssey for business) but they decided to make it into one OS. (It seems that they cancelled them pretty quickly because only one build of Neptune was made and no builds of Odyssey were ever made).
Neptune for home use, Oddesey for buisnesses.
Meanwhile with Vista it took them 3 years (post-reset) just to add DWM, the "Welcome center" and the aero theme, and 2 years for Windows 7, only adding a superbar, transparent taskbar, and only minor theme modifications.
@@justsomerandompersononthei2595 They scrapped like 80% of Windows Vista, Windows Vista was only in development for around 1.5 years...
@@justsomerandompersononthei2595 Also, Windows 7 was significantly more stable compared to Windows Vista.

Well, you are so correct and true about everything, including Whistler.
I do prefer the fake sounds, but it is correct sounds that count in your channel - and unfortunately, for me, the 3-sound mixed startup sound and the 12-string guitar shutdown sound are not the correct sounds.
Weird how the last few builds of XP before that iconic startup used Windows 2000’s startup sound. So out of place.
I'm guessing the XP sounds were a last-minute addition.
Not as last minute as Vista's RTM sounds. Watch this video made by me and see how close to RTM they got when they changed Vista's sounds to RTM sounds. (Vista RTM build was 6000.16386. It was insanely close)

So Vista was almost an XP clone in terms of sounds?
And congratulations for 2.000 subscribers!!
Thanks but uhhhhh 2.000 subs? Did I just have one sub the whole time? 🙁

Fun fact: while Whistler Professional and Personal ditched the 2000-style boot screen after 2257, Server kept it until 2433

Ever since this video, a new build has seen the light of day: 2264. It has the same bootscreen as 2267.
Windows XP build 2485 use Windows XP Sound already.
I'm aware of that. I had fixed that in my "All Windows Startup and Shutdown Sounds" video, but forgot to update this video.
@@Sonicrush007 But if you upgrade from previous build, the previous build Startup and Shutdown will include.
Windows XP and vista were my childhood, completely.
XP, Vista and 7 were my childhood. I didn’t use them in order because I had XP from 2004-2009, switched to 7 and stayed for three years and then switch to Vista in 2012 and then switched between Vista and 7 a couple of times. I kept switching PCs with my mother because I would notice that the Vista was slow and thought that the 7 would be faster but then after I reset everything, I noticed the 7 machine was actually slower. I then switched back to 7 permanently in December of 2012 and stayed until 2014.
XP was awesome. On Vista and 7 I missed installing these themes with uxtheme patch where I would use the Windows XP and 9x themes. Those were some fun days with Vista and 7. I wish I could use Uxtheme patcher again but it doesn’t work when a new major Windows 10 build releases. When a new build releases, developers constantly have to rework the patches and they just ended up giving up because of the amount of time and work required to support Windows 10 which nearly half of the world uses. The Windows 9x theme didn’t require any patching because you could use the classic theme and there was a built in feature to customize it but not anymore (start menu was customized by using classic shell until developers gave up due to Windows 10 getting new builds).
Lol. I have nostalgia of nostalgia (when I used uxtheme patchers I used the 9x theme and XP theme out of nostalgia but then I missed having that nostalgia).
Me and xp were
Mine is windows xp and 7

That's the actual startup and shutdown sounds
Final Version of Windows XP Came Out in 2001.
Thank you, Captain Obvious
We know
What version of Windows had that really cool sounding one, was it windows 2000 beta 2? It was the sound of Windows 2000 but sounded different in a way like more umph
I think Windows 2000 Beta 3
There were actually two sounds used in Beta 3. The one he was thinking of is Windows 2000 Beta 3 builds 1983-2000.3. Check out the video I made of the sounds used here: czcams.com/video/cvH813crbWY/video.html
(I messed up on the video, the first beta 3 sounds was used in builds 1946-1982 (whatever build came before 1983) and the second beta 3 sounds were used in builds 1983-2000.3.)

The Build 2257 boot screen looks cursed to me...
Microsoft only change the branding but didn't change the Copyright year.

Windows Whistler : August 9 2001
It's stupid how in the early builds of whistler they used the windows 2000 boot screen then at 2257 they made a 2000 type boot screen. Why couldn't they have made a 2000 type boot screen when they were making build 2202
They didn’t need to make them earlier because they were Alpha builds. It’s not necessary to make any dramatic change during those builds. Alphas usually don’t introduce anything and remain identical to a previous build of Windows.
Oh. I see. I should have known. I only said that because I thought Build 2202-2250 were actual beta releases instead of alpha releases
oh no! what windows xp
Isn't Windows XP build 2600 is the release to manufacturing (RTM) which removed all of the Windows 2000 sounds?
Build 2485 is what removed the XP sounds, not the RTM. Microsoft creates release candidate builds and which ever RC build they choose, gets recompiled into the RTM.
@@Sonicrush007 I meant _these_ Windows 2000 sounds, Billy!
@@minogamesfan9203 Sorry I mistyped, removed the 2000 sounds, not the XP sound.
@@Sonicrush007 it's OK, mistakes always happen.

You forgot to add Neptune
Neptune merged with Odyssey so that means Neptune is still a build of whistler
I didn't forget, I just knew not to include them. Neptune and Odyssey aren't Whistler. Yes they may have been combined to become XP, but they aren't the same project.
0:00 Was that pre-beta?
Yes
I want fake sounds pls
0:00 Post rtm
As far as I am aware, it is not considered a post rtm build of Windows 2000. See betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_2000 and betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_XP
It appears to be considered an early beta 1 build. There was some debate over this, but BetaWiki does make it clear that it is a Whistler build and not a post RTM build of Windows 2000 betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_XP_build_2202
2410, 2416, 2419 are Pre-Beta 2
Correct. I went by this list to determine what builds are labelled what: betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_XP
The website acknowledges that pre-beta 2 goes up to 2430, but still pretty much puts it in as beta 2.
@@Sonicrush007 Where do you get all these betas from?
@@missiondemolition A few sources:
1. winworldpc.com
2. downloadui.bobpony.com/
3. archive.org (search)
Some builds are impossible to get due to BetaArchive's move to monopolize the build collection and try to stop people from spreading them to other sources by only letting some people get them and blocking those who distribute. I had to sometimes rely on videos where people install the build to get the sounds (because they have FTP access at BetaArchive).
@@Sonicrush007 I have used some of them to install betas. I have used some Whistler, Longhorn, and also some others. I also have used Whistler before so I also know that the fake sound is not in there.
@@Sonicrush007 You Forget Samsung.com
Dude, build 2267 was released a year before 9/11, my goodness.
Build 2267 was never released. Build 2267 was leaked (probably by former Microsoft employees left and then leaked or employees who leaked and got fired. Microsoft and other big companies don't take leaking too lightly and will usually punish or fire those that leak anything no matter how old the content is) but not released to the public. The final beta builds are what gets released to the public. According to betawiki.net, the compilation date of build 2267 was 2000-09-10. I would assume that as soon as it was compiled, it was sent to employees immediately.
@@Sonicrush007 Right, I gotcha, It's odd, though, I couldn't get a single build from 2267 to 2416 to install whatsoever.
@@gabe80million Something must be wrong with your settings. Don't set RAM any more than 512 mb. Use only one cpu core. Make sure you set the OS in VMware to Windows 2000 because these early builds of Whistler are more like Windows 2000 than XP and if you set it to XP, the VM will assume that it is the final version of XP and will run in a way to best perform on XP. Also try turning off ACPI in the .vmx file. (Remember acpi.present = "FALSE" ?)
@@Sonicrush007 Oh, so I have to do the acpi thing with these, too? I already knew about the other stuff, I have it all at 512 MB, and have them set to Win2k. I didn't know about the acpi thing. I'll try them out, thanks again. haha
@@gabe80million That may work. Make sure you also set the BIOS date for these builds in VMware which you can find easily. I recommend that you go to betawiki.net and search for the builds and all builds that have a timebomb (the date the build was set to expire and no longer allow you to install it) will have a date with it.
If you have a powerful computer, I recommend that you use PCem and emulate a processor faster than 130 MHz (not kidding, emulating requires a lot of power and I can't emulate anything faster than 90 MHz on my laptop). PCem works very well with beta builds because you are basically emulating a physical PC which will almost always lead to better results. You can emulate any OS up to Windows XP if you have a pretty powerful computer (you can't emulate anything faster than 300 MHz).
Whistler, NT 5.0 and Longhorn should of been actual, released operating systems.
@@ThatRandomToast while this is true for whistler and NT 5.0, I think longhorn was supposed to be a proper operating system, due to the abnormally long release time between xp and vista. Longhorn could have been the one to fill the 6 year gap
@@4skinhunter I’ve heard that longhorn was meant to be a stepping stone (i.e. minor release) between Whistler and Blackcomb in reference to the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort). Whistler became XP, Longhorn became vista, Blackcomb was scrapped and changed into Vienna witch would ultimately become Windows 7.
Mistake: Replaced by Windows 7.
