The item at 2:50 is a fly swatter holder! My parents had one back in the 70's. It hangs on the wall and you put the handle in from the top & it slides down into it! The swatters had wood handles that matched the front of the holder ... ours was never used, just for decor!! Hadn't seen one in years!

I have quite a few beautiful crewel pieces but I picked up a large framed cross stitched landscape the other day at the bins. It is pristine, except a nick out of the frame. I’ll probably paint it, and it will be fine. I’m so glad to know that perhaps someone will want to buy it. I thought the same thing as you. Judy, cross-stitch is a series of X stitches done on cross-stitch fabric of various types like hardanger cloth. The fabric has to be very evenly woven with fairly widely spaced threads, usually 10 - 14 threads per inch. Most cross stitch fabric does not have a pattern printed on it but instead has a separate paper pattern. "Embroidery" and specialized embroidery like "crewel" or "bargello" is usually done on fabric that is tighter woven like sheeting with a pattern printed on it.

The moon cross stitch clock is termed, “primitive” in design, (not age.) That’s the keyword you’ll want to use when listing. Primitive cross stitch designs are in high fashion right now. Enjoying the content! Also, that amount of the padded medallions give the vibe of being kits, maybe localized to an area. I bet you anything, you have the designers collection. You can tell by the finishing style of course but also by the repeated use of the same font. Those are mockups for craft fairs and such. I bet her husband cut the fun frames or something and she sold the patterns with the unfinished frames. The other pieces you found are probably the rest of her personal collection, all 80’s or 90’s, except for that moon clock. That one is very different from the others and may just be coincidence that it’s there. I’d be surprised if it was older than 2010, but I’m certainly no expert.😄

I dont know your name, but I love watching you pick and choose items. I have learned so much from you and I can't wait to go to a Goodwill. I have only been to one when I was a 20 something. But I never went back. I want to get some nightstand lamps but do not want to pay a large price for new ones.
    Thank you for your videos,

Counted cross stitch uses x's and back stitching. So the one piece you weren't sure about is still considered cross stitch. I know how much work goes into these because I used to do it before my eyes got bad! I still have ton's of my projects that were never framed! UGH!

Thrifting and Shopping with Joan My mother was very good at counted cross stitch, her large, framed pieces are beautiful! After mama passed away we began a tradition that each grandchild can choose one of grandmommy’s counted cross stitch projects when they get married. It’s a very special wedding gift from their grandmother!

Cross stitch is exactly what the name implies!:) The stitches are "x" stitches. You stitch one direction then you "cross" back over. Embroidery/needlepoint are generally mostly straight stitches.

I love love love all the cross stitch items! I thought I was the only one who loved it. I do not do it personally but me and my dad used to attend estate auctions before he passed. At one of these auctions is where I discovered my love of them. I have a few from just one auction that I wish I could show you because they are so beautiful and very very detailed and even shadowed as if they were paintings. 3 of them are framed nicely and professionally, approximately 5×7 in size, then 1 of them is approximately 10×13 or 11×14 and all of them are women or young ladies with 1800's style victorian dresses. Like I said, they are shaded and shadowed as if it were a painting instead of a cross stitch and obviously done by someone who was very talented and took a long time on them.
I felt a little jealous that you kept finding them lol. I love them so much but I thought I was just a weinie for liking them as much as I do because no one I know or have shown them to feels my excitement over them. I decorated my spare bedroom with them hanging on my walls.
Awesome find! And I love your videos!

That was fun! I'm so glad you got the cross stitch pieces. Those were so cool. The woodwork around them made them all the more special. I don't have family so I've wondered what will become of my craftwork when I pass on. Don't guess it matters, but I hope someone finds it who gets excited about the work that went into it and doesn't just throw it away, so this video made me happy.

The counted cross stitch pieces are all so beautiful!! It is very time consuming and take alot of patience. Most of those wooden pieces were probably cut out in someone's garage. She/He did great work!! Thank you for recognizing that. Were it not for bad eyes and hands, I would still be stitching. I loved doing it. Thanks Joce for all you do!!❤

The painted wood item you wondered what it was…. It is a holder for a small handmade type flat broom. I’ve seen you pick one up before and wonder about it. They were kits we painted in classes in the 70’s. I still have mine. There is another tall slender box to hang with it for long matches. They were both hung beside country styled fireplaces. Sorry if someone else already told you. I gave up on reading all comments to see.

Hi! Love your videos. Just saw you pick up the linen wall hanging with wooden bars at top and bottom. I know you said you thought they were PA Dutch, but I believe it to be Swedish. My Grandfather was from Sweden and the outfits resemble those on decor from the early 1900's on some of the pieces they brought over. Also, all my Swedish relatives had the little folk horse decorations (in right corner of piece) in either classic red/orange or turquoise. Idk if it matters, just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth! Thanks for all the entertainment, Jocelyn!

Those Embroidered pieces they are fantastic. I bet they sold their wears at festivals and such. The husband probably cut the wooden pieces for the wife the work on them is awesome my Mom did many pillowcases the work that goes into them even though they are samplers a lot of thought and time went into them. The felt backing and the finished product is great.
