CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The shark attacks a group of teenagers who are all sailing together in seperate boats.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Despite being a less well-regarded virtual remake of the original film, Jaws 2 earned a tidy sum at the box office by combining its predecessor's winning formula with the popular teen horror craze, helping to spawn the era of blockbuster sequels. Roy Scheider returns as Sheriff Martin Brody, whose small resort town of Amity is poised to bounce back from the economic hardship it encountered after becoming widely known as the site of vicious shark attacks. But at the same time that Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) is welcoming a real estate developer to Amity, two divers disappear and a party of waterskiers is consumed by a shark. The incidents are explained away as accidents, but Brody knows better, tipping his bullets with cyanide and forbidding his sons Mike (Mark Gruner) and Sean (Marc Gilpin) to participate in a teen sailing regatta. Everyone foolishly chalks up Brody's fears to trauma-induced paranoia, and the regatta goes forward, with a hungry great white trailing the youthful contestants and hungrily picking them off one by one. Director Jeannot Szwarc would later helm another sequel, Supergirl (1984).

I was on the special effects crew that was controlling the shark in that shot... it was the sea sled shark, the one that was pulled by an umbilical cord of cables and air hoses that fired the air valves in the shark's body that actuated rams that pushed and pulled the steel skeletal structure inside the elastomeric skin... the timing on that was amazing but the collision with the boat made the shark bend out of shape... it still looks great in real time... cheers!
I thought it looked amazing and thank you for your work. It scared the hell out of me when i was a kid. And I'll take this over that b.s cgi any day of the week.
The timing on the shot is perfect! Unfortunate the shark’s mouth bended but I’d take this over a CGI shot any day.
Even still it’s one of my favorite shots in all the movies. The timing was PERFECT.
This is so fascinating, thanks for sharing!
I'm curious...what was the difference in the material used for the outer skin in this shark vs 'Bruce'? WHY did it bend?
"It'S sO fAkE..."
Well, see Jaws 3-D and Jaws the Revenge then, buddy.
I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to watch those 2 movies
The 80s were notorious for corny acting and cheesy special effects like this. They could do so much more with Jaws today.
Ngl Jaws Revenge was the worst, screaming sharks are unrealistic
I honestly liked jaws 3. It was enjoyable for me
This movie is from the 70s and I’m pretty sure most people think the 80s had revolutionary special effects in many films that still look amazing.
Also literally no one wants a new Jaws movie. I saw the Meg from 2018 and Jaws is way better.
It's a good thing that the one teenager in the entire group who got knocked unconscious and fell into the water also happened to be the only teenager in the entire group who was actually wearing his life jacket correctly.
It would have been a bit inconvenient for his health if that was not the case.
Actually one of the other teens (with blue hat) has one on as does Sean. But he definitely wasn’t wearing his correctly.
safety first
I like that Jaws 2 shark look like two faced with the side of it's faced burnt.
It's a good thing that the one teenager in the entire group who got knocked unconscious
Apparently when they were shooting these scenes, a group of real life sharks were actually swimming right by the actors. Because of this, the teenagers started screaming like crazy and the director thought it looked so real that he turned the cameras on and filmed it. So they were actually terrified and that’s why they were screaming so much
Yeah. Keith Gordon said that was a problem during shooting anytime anyone went in the water. They were never sure when the real ones would show up, but as far as I have heard, none of them were Great Whites.
@@Theomite From what I heard, some were hammerheads.
Surely they would have had a code word or something to yell when there were real ones. Or surely they would have been shouting it’s a real one etc
@The Stormblooper A serious oversight on their part.
(I love you so much)
@@Theomite hi
Its funny how Jackie was peer pressuring Mike and everybody to go out to sea and be disobedient but here she was the most useless and the most scared.
Inciting the crowd and then becoming emotional and screaming through the ordeal I hope she received a good tongue lashing when she got home
@Scott M I know right I would have thrown her to the shark
She is a city girl after all
@@Firemarioflower yeah, I mean, I probably would have pissed myself if I was one of those kids.
Well actually she just wanted to go to lighthouse for a picnic and have some of the beer one of the friends was talking about he had taken from his father. Going past the lighthouse was Mike’s idea Which I’m not really sure where they were going because the only thing past the lighthouse was that cable junction place. I guess the movie was stretching for a reason for the kids to be out away from the other Amity boats Because the whole reason for the kids going on the sailing trip was to have a picnic at the lighthouse and they made it to the lighthouse OK
I don't care how fake the shark looks. This scene is a very well shot/directed piece of cinematic history and is truly terrifying.
Would you rather watch jaws 3 and the revenge at the same time, or jaws 2? Jaws 2 is a decent sequel!
jeffs1000 dum
@jeffs1000
You could not be more wrong .
@jeffs1000 I care how bad the shark looks. The scenes look awful because the shark is moving totally unnaturally
@jeffs1000 I agree entirely. But I do like one shot. Where the shark surfaces behind the yachts at night during the party. I thought that was very well shot. Proper reverence for the shark
The plot of this entire movie would've never happened if they had bigger boats.
Your gonna need a bigger boat

Not shot on th 1975 e original this.

2:57, that was one of best film shots of this movie. Brilliant!
still looks better than every shark shot in the original even if the original is a better film
Edit: I take that back lol my memory lied to me
Yeah. Even as a kid I laughed out loud at how fake that part looked. The frame-rate dropped for some reason too. Made it look like stop-motion animation. Still, very entertaining movie. Made me *HATE* sharks. Jaws was a real bastard in this movie.

MOIVYGZVGSVYZSVZSCUSVUSISB
He also directed several well-regarded films.
This was a pretty good film in its own right. It annoys me when critics constantly compare sequels to the original. This is it's own film- it has suspense and some genuinely scary moments, dare I say even surpassing some of those in the first- the couple on the boat for instance- the girlfriend left in utter shock wimpering in terror as her boyfriend is brutally brought under- to me that is just as atmospheric and terrifying as the girl swimming in J1. It certainly scared me as a child anyway.
I personally preferred this over the original
@@Boygonebad the original to me is more slow processing and inflicts horror in a special way you know am saying?
The first films ending was more epic but this is a solid sequel
I think a strength this film does it's best to not call back to the first movie. Sure Brody does bring up his experience when confronting the council of idiots but because it's not brought up much it more or less acts as character building informing the viewer that he is knowledgeable about the situation. Another strength this has is it doesn't play into the stupid trope of modern horror movies do in which they introduce a huge group of people and kill all but one or two of them by the end. It's dumb because then the characters then just become meat sacks waiting for their death scene. Unlike the original Predator and Alien movies is that when there was one person left it was because everyone else died because they failed to escape, not because the script demanded it. You cares when someone died, unlike today in which the characters are so bland and stupid their deaths happen because the writers needed them to be stupid or unnaturally unlucky.
2:58 .... that is sooo bizarre?! How did that shot not get edited out?.. The sharks mouth looks like a folded shirt..
It looked even worse on a theatre screen. I guess they didn't notice until editing, and they didn't have time to re-shoot it or couldn't cut around it without ruining the scene. Too bad, because it's a pretty cool shot. Probably took a lot of time to choreograph and get the timing just right.
@@jadotucker9810 it is true.
This is actually good for its time jackass.
Look at the massive hydraulic ram in its mouth
You do have to remember that this movie had very many technical difficulties and the shark was blown up so it would be practically impossible for a shark to be built technically way ahead of it's time and have a mouth wide open and look blown up so you cant blame it and any way this movie really had no reason for a second one
2:58 Did the Shark just roar?!
Sorta Jaws roars in all the films. Although they got a little carried away with it in Jaws The Revenge.
They got carried away on Jaws 4 was understatement.
That one scene with quint telling the tale of his time onboard the USS Indianapolis was more terrifying than any visual effect shark scene in any other shark film to this day!! All you needed was the right words spoken by the right man in the right setting & the viewer would be lost for words as your imagination runs wild , where is it today ??? It doesn't exist
That scene has a full comand of acting by dreyfuss, schroeder, and specially shaw.. A jewel
That was acting this is just amateur in the extreme in Jaws 2. No wonder Schrader got himself out of doing the 3nd one. This was milked until the udder were completely dry.
1:02 that was a real shark right there

He also would have lost his role in a movie that made him relevant for a bit about 5 years later. "Christine"
Now compare these teenage actors (More or less teenage) with today's crop of teenage actors and look at how much better these kids were and how serious they took this film, despite it being almost a slasher type film. Credit were credit is due, these kids put in the effort.

Best Sequel to The Jaws Franchise...
Agreed. They should have stopped the Jaws sequels after this, a bit like they should have done after Jurassic Park 2, but no, some people want to milk a franchise for all its worth then end up destroying it.
I think so.
One of the best film sequels ever made. And that is saying a lot as the original Jaws was close to pure cinematic perfection and would be an incredibly tough act to follow. But there is actually more terror in Jaws 2 - and that’s what made it so gripping! I had this recorded off the TV on my VCR in the 1980s as a child. Was a bit obsessed watching the scary parts of Jaws 2 over and over again!
MOIVZDBGDUDBDGUZDGZXUDBD
Fun fact: these actors were really surrounded by sharks and were genuinely terrified but the producers kept shooting thinking it was just good acting.
@NeonOfficial that isn't a joke lmao, it's true
@ItsWalker this is real, you can google it. It actually happened.
@ItsWalker it's not a joke. Had really requins bouledogue under boats...
@ItsWalker According to Marc Gilpin (Sean Brody), he claimed that while shooting this scene, himself and the actors were circled by a REAL hammerhead shark, it was the reason why the actors were screaming
They didn't think it was good acting, they kept shooting on purpose knowing there was a shark
That shark fin was basically the three barrels of the first film re-imagined. Its spooky to see and it works.
Mike had it the easiest. He was out cold for the entire ordeal and doesn't have to live with any of that trauma
2:17-3:58, although not as scary as the pier, shark cage, and opening scene from the first film, this was a pretty intense and scary scene.
You know the jaws sharks 🦈 actually look pretty scary
Zacimus the master Shooter agreed and imagine seeing this shark coming out of the water beneath you😖
This film has a lot of strong scenes in it like this, not gonna lie, szwarc did a good job.

2:57 With the burnt face and how close it actually came to eating the guy, I think this shot is a lot more intimidating than the famous one in Jaws.

People say "How fake" does the shark look. Fair enough, but at least it is a real presence in the water and not just a CGI character. Even as an actor, can you imagine yourself doing this seen and thrashing about in REAL open sea water and act panicking and see this thing in the water next to you? I tell you what, I would have a few moments of terror I can tell you that. And given how these teen actors DID in fact get visited by a REAL hammerhead shark during one of these scenes, it makes the idea even more shit scary.
anybody ever notice notice that SHARKS look fake? not very organic looking creatures to begin with! rather rubbery actually...
gutz1981 wow somebody's on a rampage

wolvieguy no they don't but that makes sharknado kind of funny
thecookiepug64 true dat..
It’s surprising that the shark only ate 2 people from those sailboats (Eddie and Marge) considering how many kept falling in the water.
Bob was supposed to get eaten as well, but they cut his death because it would’ve given the film an R rating. If you watch the ending of the film when Brody is at Cable Junction, Bob (guy with the red shirt and hat on Larry’s boat) is not in any of the wide shots when the shake is zooming towards Brody because he’s supposed to be dead already.
That’s also why at the end the shark swims right past that girl and just cuts her with his gills. He had already targeted Bob. You can find pictures of the death scene online but no footage.
I like to pretend the shark actually got him.
2:56 Look at how much the quality of the picture drops in terms of scratches and damage compared to the other scenes. That's cause they used the shit out of that scene for all the promotional trails and TV spots that nothing was left of it at the end.
What you mean
+Liam Wood I mean that shot was used so many times in terms of promotion, that the negative is damaged and since it appears to be an original, that is how all copies of this film are going to look.

2:59 Even though the mouth bends and you can see the hydraulic pump it’s still frightening.
Totally think Jacky took the screaming to extreme more than the other characters. Got kind of annoying after a while.
I have to agree,. yet let face it, in real life someone could get hysterical to that degree. I mean it was a shark! The blonde girl did a great job at being really traumatized too like a more "in shock" reaction.
I disagree. She was realistic to someone who has a traumatic experience and goes crazy in a terrifying situation to which she has no control over. They were all panicking and scared but reacted in different ways. Lucy decided to pray, Larry becomes a douche, Doug nerds out, Bob becomes a panicking Cluts, ect...
Actress loosing her voice every single day lol
So how would people act in a situation like this? People grief differently, but there aren't such things as people who freak out so much they over react.

Hardly a controversial opinion. I'm sure most people who have seen all four movies agree with you.

LOL Spoilers are not people saying things look fake. Spoilers are people that spoil the movie by telling people who have never seen it what happens and how it ends.
People saying the shark looks fake isn't spoiling. It's simply a Law of Magic at work: Never repeat an act for the audience. Once it's seen the first time, the shock factor is gone, so the audience's attention will be more focused on discerning the secret. The same applies here. Most of us are here because we saw the movie, came to enjoy the scene, but because of that we can see all the little things wrong with it.
Movies may be a special type of magic, but few are ever special enough to break this law and succeed.

i dont care for any sequels really, but some sequels are ok and jaws 2 is one of those that deserves credit imo. the scene where the shark nearly gets mike as they pull him out was shot a few times and the footage used in the film was the best out of them for timing .
