'It's what the network wants, why bother to complain' 😆sheer genius. I wish other shows had the balls to take a swipe at their own networks. Especially ones that interfere too heavily. WB are fucking notorious for it, even as far back as this.

I will always love that bit of passive agressiveness by the writers in this intro: "It's what the network wants, why bother to complain?"

  • @TheMidknightryder13
    @TheMidknightryder13 Před 9 lety +55

I actually thought the writers deserved a lot of credit for being able to come up with this -- admittedly sometimes convoluted, especially Elmyra's part -- new set of lyrics that explained the massive changes without changing the melody. My second favorite is "They're briefly and often in great pain". Obviously, someone decided to make the best of this train wreck of an idea. ("It's what the network wants....." wins hands down, of course.)

    • @TheMidknightryder13
      @TheMidknightryder13 Před 9 lety +6

    • @Lorenzo3K
      @Lorenzo3K Před 9 lety +5

I was reading about this today. The writers and producers themselves purposely put that line in the new lyrics because they were pissed about all the changes they were being forced to do. By the time third episode aired the original creator pretty much to the network to go fuck themselves. It's a real shame too, could've been awesome if it was done right

The one thing I will never understand is who at the WB really wanted an Elmyra spinoff because this wasn't the first time they tried it, no joke on Tiny Toons they had two attempted spinoffs with her, like you can tell those were back door pilots, I really wanted to find out which producer wanted the character to become a hit this badly.

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what do ya wanna do today.
Brain: Same thing we do every day, pinky, endure Elmyra, then try to take over the world.
    The situation's changed
    For Pinky and The Brain
    No laboratory
    Alone in the rain
    And someone's looking 'round
For where they might be found
    It's stinky
For Pinky and The Brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain.
    Their pressure magnified
    With every lab they tried
    They had to flee constantly
    Needing a place to hide
    Trapped inside a store
A girl ran in the door
    She bought a discount turtle
    But ended up with more
    Elmyra: furry things are nice
    I love my talking mice
    I take them to school
    And make them eat rice
    I spray them with perfume
    I my own bedroom.
    They're wrinkly
And often in great pain, pain, pain, pain, pain, pain, pain, pain, Brain.
    So Pinky and The Brain
    Share a new domain
    It's what the network wants
    Why bother to complain?
    The earth remain a goal
    Some things they can't control
They're Pinky, Elmyra and The Brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain, brain
    Brain: I deeply resent this
    Pinky: Troz!
    Elmyra: mousies!

I really did like this spin-off at first, I really did, and I still do think it's funny. However, there is just one little issue I have (that I didn't notice when I first watched for some reason): the toons who were closest to Elmyra in the _Tiny Toons_ series (Furrball and Montana Max) have been replaced by an ugly cat and a fat boy named Rudy .
I didn't mind the Elymra-going-to-a-normal-human school thing and now owning Pinky and Brain (especially since she gets along so well with Pinky), but they could've at least kept Furrball.

Only watched one episode of this show. And that was enough for me. Geesh they combined two of my favorite characters with one of my least favorite characters and made this travesty. I do like how subtle the writers were about how they didn't like this idea in the theme. XD

And we all thought Pinky & the Brain were going to take over the world one day but No they just blew it all up and jumped Elmyra into the show just like jumping the shark and killing the show.

    share a new domain
    its what the network wants
    why bother to complain"
this just about says it all

On another note, we should all start appreciating Dil and kimi from Rugrats, along with Poof from Fairly OddParents. Any of them are better than Elmyra.

Jamie Kellner thought Anamaniacs wasn't dumb enough because so many adults watched it, probably thought something like this would be dumb enough to keep adults away and more dumb kids would watch, a lot of adults still watched Pokemon and that wasn't cancelled

"It's what the network wants/Why bother to complain?" "I DEEPLY resent this." Ah, gotta love writers protesting in ways that DON'T cost them their jobs.

Also at the end when Brain says I deeply resent this. Not to mention the part where Pinky and Brain were shown kicked out of the WB office during the Why bother to complain line. Yeah it's totally easy to see how the writers felt about it.

@squadallahthistle: Feh. Charlie Adler is Buster, IMO. The only character John Kassir is most remembered for is The Cryptkeeper (ironic, since Charlie lampooned John's most iconic character before John replaced him on TTA). But yes, Charlie quit of his own choosing because of his bitterness at not getting a role on TTA's successor. Still, that doesn't excuse the executive meddling that ruined the Kid's WB.

This wasn't the best spinoff in the world, but I loved the episode about sending Elmira into space, with the My Fair Lady parody and Brain deciding to take a vacation instead of take over.

That's ballsy as hell to call out their own studio like that. It essentially mocks them every episode.
