  • This is a reaction video to Cold Chisel performing "Wild Thing" live during their Last Stand tour in 1983. This is the Chip Taylor written song performed by so many artists but Cold Chisel absolutely kills it. This is by far the best cover version of this song I have heard to date! The band is simply HOT. The guitarist is absolutely wicked while Jimmy Barnes vocals are simply incredible. You won't be able to take your eyes off this performance. Enjoy ...

This was the result of a band touring Aussie pubs for 10+ (at this stage), learning how to entertain, with juxtaposition of volume, (rock, jazz & ballad forms) while learning their art in musicianship. We don't see these kind of artists these days. They continued doing this for years after, and have become iconic legends. For your journey into Cold Chisel, Ian Moss is the lead guitarist, and also a world class singer. Jimmy is one of the best vocalists ever.

Now THAT's how you play Wild Thing!!
They once flew over to try promoting in the US, and they went into an office building to see a head of promotions who was supposed to attend their gig. He said he couldn't do it because he had to attend some DJ's dog's breakfast. They flew back over to Oz and wrote You've Got Nothin I Want!

Thank you for a wonderful and energetic reaction to our boys. Today marks the anniversary of the passing of Steve Prestwich , shown here on drums. Steve was an original member of the band from 1973. He was born in Beatles territory, Liverpool England, but grew up in Elizabeth, South Australia where Jimmy Barnes also grew up. They met when they were just 15. Steve wrote some of the bands most popular songs including When the War is Over, Flame Trees and Forever now, along with a less famous song but one of my personal favourites, Water into Wine and many other Chisel and solo songs. Steve sadly passed away on 16 January 2011 from surgical complications to remove a brain tumour. I have been working on a tribute video which I wanted to have finished today but due to Covid I’ve been too sick to finish it yet- I hope to have it up within the next few days. Please keep an eye out for it and take a look at the brilliant man that was Steve Prestwich. ❤❤

This was when Jimmy Barnes would drink a bottle of vodka before the show and 1 during the concert. Thank God he finally got clean and sober. Between 1998 and 2002 he was knocking back 10 grams of cocaine, six to eight ecstasy pills and three bottles of vodka a day. Like we say, it verges on an act of God that we aren't talking about him in the past tense. When I first started, all the reviews of Cold Chisel would say, "This singer won't have a voice in six months." That was 45 years ago. I've taught myself a different way of singing. See, when a normal person sings, they use their vocal cords …Jimmy uses secondary cords or "false cords". There are groups of them around the main cords. I discovered this many years ago. I'd had a bug, and because it was such a big show and we were postponing, I had to get a doctor's certificate for insurance. This throat specialist put a camera down my throat, and had me talking and singing. And he said, "You don't use your vocal cords." Singers who scream as much as I do tend to have problems. But my body found a way of self-defence.

Glad you enjoyed this. How could you not like it?
I agree, they should be world famous. Unfortunately. when they went to the US in 1980/81 they had a terrible time.
The demo of their most recent release, "East", was of poor quality with a lot of tape hiss, When Chisel pointed this out one of the US sound engineers is said to have suggested it wasn't the tape but their playing.
Further, the US record exec.s wanted them to tone down their act. Which Chisel refused to do.. Remember, the best selling music of the late 70's/early 80's wasn't what Chisel was playing. Just look at the Billboard top-100 of those years.
So Chisel came back to Australia and where the rest of the world missed out we in Australia have been eternally grateful. This performance wasn't a one off. It was fairly typical of their live shows. Seeing them in a pub/club in an audience of about 200 was just great.
As mentioned, two other live performances well worth watching "Bow River" and When the War is Over" from their 2003 Ringside show,

Try Bow river next, when the War is Over, try Ian Moss singing Georgia at the same concert. They didn't break up because they were no good. There was tension, there was can we still write and perform 100% better stuff? So they got back together a few times. Jimmy put out an anniversary edition of his soul Deep album, a while ago. Did a duet with Sam Moore from your Sam and Dave, of Soothe me. Look for Jimmy's cover of Lazy, with Joe Bonnamassa. Jimmy had hip surgery last year, got back to touring and got a heart complication which needed more surgery, get well Jimmy. Ian Moss still tours, put out a single recently.
