the best album he ever curated. Truly a masterpiece. Everything was just so intricate.

"Is this a play on words on purpose?" Yes! Namjoon loves wordplay with layered meanings like this...for an absolute masterclass on this, check out the rapline song "Ddaeng" 😁 As for the meaning of "Seoul" (this is a really surface level explanation), it's about his love/hate relationship with the city. It's the place where he's spent his entire adulthood and he does have an attachment to it, but he also resents the "concrete jungle" aspect of the "ashy" (cement gray, air-polluted) city, where you can be lonely and full of sorrow even amongst millions of people.

All of RMs albums are poetic. I personally read what the song is about before listening to it. It just helps me enjoy it more because I obviously cannot speak Korean. I do this with all non English songs. So now when I listen to BTS's music and solo works I know what the songs are about even though I'm hearing it in Korean. Also... he deserves a Pulizter. And I am so serious. He is young in comparison to classic philosophers but this man is unique. A gem, rare, precious, ahead of his time...the standard.

Every thing in this picture and on the shelves is relative to Namjoon. You can see BTS on the shelves. DokSkim is jazzy and awesome. He played for V when he sang his Christmas song last year. RM's track 2 mv is epic!!! Anderson Pak is a dear friend to BTS and he is featured singing the opening and throughout the Still Life song.

Seoul is about Namjoon having to move from his lovely hometown to Seoul when he became part of Big Hit. He is very much a nature lover, so there is a constant battle in his “soul” of loving every part of this “new” home and at the same time hating it (the noise, dirt, the buildings) and wanting to escape it. As a New Yorker I can relate.

Seoul the first song is from RM's Mono and the whole album is like this. I play it to go to sleep or do yoga. Very mellow. Lovely.
Docskim on keys has been around BTS for a long time and has a band called the Ghost Band which toured with BTS in the early days. John Eun incredible guitarist and very good friend of RMs. The other two I am not familiar with but clearly talented.
You might really enjoy RM's live Rolling Hall performance of this album Indigo even if you don't watch with us, it is a great concert. When he had a chance to a solo concert he chose to go to a venue that was an inspiration for him as a young teenage rapper. I like that he did that. A very small venue. Only 600 people capacity.

Enjoyed your reaction. Definitely check out his album. Would love a reaction of Still Life mv, and Wildflower, unless you have already done Wildflower. Yes, RM birthday is in Sept 12,1994. He may have been referring to his Korean age when he said he would be 30. Korea just changed so they would be universal.
Also, he has talked about a new album. If you attend Suga concert in April in theaters, you will see RM perform. I hate to give spoilers. Not all the members did a solo act, but RM did one of his new songs. Suga concert in theaters is April 10th and 13th.
I was not into rap either, but this was am amazing concert. Again, no spoilers.
Not sure if it was just a rumor but originally RM was going to enlist when J Hope did April 2023 but he came up with an album after he released Indigo. So he waited and enlisted in Dec. 2023 with Jimin, V, JK. So Army is hoping an album will be released soon from RM. Blessings

RM says to him rapping is poetry put to music.
RM is a true poet and lyricist. Because of being fluent in English he can easily mix the languages. While writing lyrics for a song, if there is no word in Korean to rhyme and keep the flow he will switch to an English word that rhymes with the same meaning.
Thank you for reacting to RMs Tiny Desk.

    To answer you.
Seoul - it's play on words: soul and seoul city. It's all about his love and hate relationship with the city but also included some emotion on it hence the use of lyrics referring to soul as well.
What sets RM apart from the others is they way he creates his songs. He's very poetic and the way he uses english and korean is just amazing. He used eng-kor words intelligently put together! His vision for his music is not as simple as i want it I'll release it done, the flavor of his chosen genre in every song is entirely different, feels warm, feels classic, that in 10-20yrs i'd definitely still enjoy them.
Ps: idk im not sure if u're the reactor who asked about 'mixtape' but they dont consider their mixtapes as their official album tho they are under their discography. The reason is if im not mistaken was the beats used. It's just tracks they said just to showcase their skills.
Pps: i love when reactors shares something abt them, no prob listening to your little stories here and there.

Namjoon loves doing plays on words in his songs. He knows English well enough to do wordplay in both Korean and English. In Daeng he uses the word in like 6 different meanings or something. In 134340 (a song about the planet Pluto) he says "Us is just plural of U". In Am I Wrong he wrote there is a fish in our hearts called selfish. LOVE his intelligent wordplay!!

Namjoon is an amazing lyricist/rapper. Not only are his lyrics deep, but, as you said, he’s able to rhyme Korean words with English words. As for staying on the beat, he’s one of the best. There is a concert video where he deliberately raps offbeat, which I’m sure you know, is very difficult. It was sort of funny to watch certain “rapper” reactors get thrown by this, not understanding his genius or playfulness. You are a great reactor because you know your craft and we, the audience, learn from you.

Namjoon is really 29, he was 28 here. Koreans count in the womb as 1 year old (9 months) and then when it hits January they turn the next age even if it isn't the month they were born. Poor Jin and V... V was one in the womb, and 2 days later turned 2... even though he has 12 more months to go. So whenever you hear them say their age subtract 2. They were really young when they left their parent's homes to pursue a career. I heard that Korea will start this year or next year with the international age like the rest of us.

  • @brayonne1755

Ok genuine question, not a complaint, I'd really like to understand why people are so interested in whether there's a track playing during the live. Why does it matter? There seems to be an implication that it's fake or they're somehow cheating. The track was them anyway, they're playing with themselves. I get that if it isn't live there are corrections that can have been made but if they were horrible they would clash with the track no? So they're legit no?
The vocal effect on Yun, by the way, is a clip of the painter he was talking about, the song is based on the ideas talked about in the clip.
RM as a singer breaks my heart, I find him just beautiful, you should really check out his solo mixtape Mono, I'd be really curious to hear your producer thoughts on Tokyo.

Hi, Nathan! 👋🏻 This reaction is really helping me chill out for the evening; thank you so much. I'm getting my tea - I usually drink Sleepytime tea at night. 💜
Anyway, I wanted to tell you 2 things: One is, your notes about click tracks made sense because I watched SUGA's tour video yesterday (behind the scenes of his USA leg) and he said one night the crowd was so loud the only thing he could hear was the click track! It was his lifeline.
The other thing I wanted to tell you was about the guitarist, John Eun, being one of RM's main collaborators for the Indigo album. RM released a video about the album, and that's where we got to see how he and John worked together on several songs. (They seem to be good friends based on his IG.)
One P.S. Another commenter told you a bit about the keyboard player, DOCSKIM. He's actually a fantastic Korean-American producer and musician! He used to be BTS' band leader (Ghost Band) for their tours until recently. I think you would really love his work. Would you be willing to do one of your nerdy producer videos comparing the original track for Jimin's "LIE" with DOCSKIM's version of the song? DOCSKIM wrote and produced both versions, but the album one is a bit less flashy (from my amateur opinion). I'd be really interested to hear your analysis, because I've never heard anyone react to his version.

RM said that his 10 tracks on his album, Indigo, are from 10 different musical genres because he had so many different things he wanted to try. It is really creative and different from any other album I've heard. Also, he is an amazing lyric writer/poet.
My favorite solo song by RM is a single called "Bicycle." It's not from his album.
But *by far* my favorite song that RM participated in is in one that he featured on called "Winter Flower" by the Korean singer Younha. There is a choir in the background in parts! It's about encouraging someone who is struggling with mental health. It is SO POWERFUL.

RM is an amazing human being and talent artist, the best leader for our boys. INDIGO is a masterpiece and most important thing was he gave notoriety the other artist on his album when he made collab with them

Don't worry about nerding out. I appreciate the insider perspective of the music production. Like the others, I recommend checking his live performance @ Rolling Hall. He has some of the artists that collab with him on his album.

He's got a real close relationship with all members of this band, Docskim on the keyboard got his passion for music revived from working on indigo's title track Wildflower and John Eun on the guitar worked closely with RM on songs in the album too

On the part when you were questioning about the 2 vocals you heard, it’s not actually backtrack. RM was singing with the background vocalist who is also the guitarist, John Eun. He’s also an amazing musician, you should checkout his music 💜

Yeah the production of the live performances are almost always significantly different from the production of the originals. It'd be super interesting if you did a comparison!

  • @anotherstupidletsplaychann9514

You'll love RM's solo stuff. He is so artistic rap, not just crazy rap. Which... he CAN do. He has proven it. But I love how he is more about the words and meaning in his music. Anyway, cannot wait to see your videos diving into more of his solo work. :]

My fav song on the album and in the MV is Still Life. Anderson Paak is cool on the track with him. In 2022, Anderson featured on Moment is Yet to Come. During non Concert Days while in Vegas (Permission to Dance) they filmed in the desert. Loved the whole vibe!
Love the new studio!!! Attic rooms are so cool! Make sure you have ample supply of paper towels!!🙃 When's your cover of Jimins Lie ? Can't wait!😊
