The Modular Operational Ration Enhancement (MORE) was developed to augment daily operational rations with additional components tailored to particular environments. There are two types of MORE, one targets high altitude and cold weather while the other is intended for hot weather operations.
PURPOSE
Warfighters in extreme environments, such as cold weather, high altitude, or elevated temperature, require extra calories beyond the standard operational rations in order to combat weight loss and decreased physical and cognitive abilities. The MORE provides the correct amount of extra calories for these specific environmental scenarios with the right balance of fat, carbohydrate, and protein. By augmenting the MRE™ or FSR™ with additional calories and nutrients, the Warfighter is capable of performing at maximum capacity in extreme environments. The MORE is not a replacement to the MRE™ or FSR™; it is a scientifically balanced addition that ensures peak performance in even the most austere battlefield locations.
TECHNOLOGY
MORE components are calorically dense and carry a balance of carbohydrates, caffeine, electrolytes, vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids. The MORE includes food components that are essential to improving the mental and physical abilities of Warfighters in demanding, extreme conditions.
CHARACTERISTICS
The MORE-High Altitude/Cold Weather and MORE-Hot Weather are composed of developmental and commercial items, including caffeinated pudding, energy gels, carbohydrate-enhanced beverages, First Strike™ bars, carbohydrate-dense nut mixes, crackers, caffeinated gum and Zapplesauce®. Drink powders are issued in easy-to-use pouches hour-glass pouches. The MORE has a shelf life of 2 years at 80°F.
All components are lightweight, low cube, can be eaten on the move without preparation, and are easy to consume and digest. The MORE is lightweight and compact, providing only the enhancements most critical to maintaining Warfighter mental awareness and physical stamina.

"You'll be awake all night!"
Then promptly drop dead from a cardiac arrest.
Probably one of my worst decision was to take 6 of those dynapep energy shots then proceed to down 4 blue energy drinks. I could feel my veins about to burst. But then again I had to stay awake for 36 hours.
LOL.
@@cesarperez7411 you want to spread it out if possible so you minimize side effects while maximizing the time you are alert

It's probably a Steve from a different timeline crossing over into ours. So far I've seen an "Alright" timeline and an "Alright lookin' good" timeline. And of course our own "Nice" timeline.
200th like :D
(Opens package) Nice lil vaccum seal to that
"Heh, I'm talking about health and I eat old food..."
Thank you for being self-aware of the irony there. Caused a good, sensible chuckle.
It's got electrolytes. Plants crave them!
Trevgauntlet i fucking love idiocracy
😂😂
So...basically, two handfuls of sugar, a handful of salt, a little bit of protein, a multi-vitamin, and a shitload of caffeine.
Me more exams
@@smeezekitty how did ur exams go dude? itz been 4 yrs, give us an update!!
@@lunaluceat I have no idea what I was saying there. The exams went okay (and some even got canceled due to COVID-19) but I finished my university degree with decent grades
the almonds are for the magnesium. you lose a lot of electrolytes in hot weather
First one I've seen. Lightweight and packed with sugar, caffein, HFCS and nutritional supplements. keep the warfighter jacked-up for the mission...GOOD POST!
+Steve1989 MREinfo hahah...one of those would stroke me out!! I'd be up for days.... bring back benzidrine ... MEDIC!!! lol.....
+Steve1989 MREinfo yea, pound cake and peaches! Now THAT"S a treat! :-) get some sleep lad !
"That'll get you Jacked!!!!" LOL!!!
Guy works out, probably loves his pwo powder
lol love your videos man, cracked up when you said "im talking about health and i eat old food" something so addictive about your reviews
Steve, this is the first ration review I've seen you do where you haven't said, "NICE!" after putting everything on a tray. I feel like this review is incomplete without the "NICE!"
But I love your reviews! Keep up the good work!
Brad Reeves I do believe he said it while squeezing out the applesauce
Great seeing the evolution and improvements watching these videos from the first one! The tray cuts are getting more like the ones we know and love!
I hate it when you don't say "nice" after you put everything on the tray. lol
There’s so something genuine and wholesome about his “all right”, though. I like it. :P
Interestingly the energy gel in the first MORE had fish gelatin, and this one contains no gelatin at all.
Also: there's 7 artificial sweeteners in the gum. I assume to help conceal the bitterness from the caffeine?
HA! He sounds like a kid in a candy store when hes going through this stuff! Keep on man! Awsome videos!
When you was pouring this drinks to the glasses I thought about Matrix and this scene with two pills in the liquid version.
If you choose the red drink, Neo....

Really nice one, both MORE and the review. Your video skills are improving very fast, they get better by the day. The rations looks very refreshing, not something heavy that would slow you down on hot climate, I just wish there was a counter part to the ration heaters but for hot environments. Add water (or oxygen like the newer heaters) and it chills your beverages. That would be really cool!!! Thanks for the review sir!!!
+Steve1989 MREinfo I, actually, am looking into developing something like that, Steve. And, yes, it is based on something like the instant cold compresses you see being sold in drugstores. I am still trying to figure out what chemicals, and composition, would produce the most cold. In a hot environment, anything that would lower the internal body temperature of the consumer would be a godsend!
Btw, true story, there used to be a superstition of sorts in the Middle East floating around that Russian and Western troops managed to avoid succumbing to the effects of hyperthermia by the ingestion of "cold pills"-seriously.
We were issued First Strike meals in Afghanistan and they were a "nice" change from the Case A and B MREs. The "Stay Alert" caffeine gum did its job for sure.
Excellent colours on the tray with this one Steve, Nice.
Steve shaves his arms confirmed
I'm both happy and sad I've come across Steve's videos. Happy because these are strangely really interesting and fun to watch; sad because I didn't come across them sooner but now I also have to wait for more content. Shucks
Another great video review Steve!
Love the idea of supporting backup supplements added to a mre. Several jell, or several beverages for our solders to consume over the cours of 24 hrs. When you think about how much water they have to consume durring a 24hr hot weather environment. Might as well enjoy as much as possible.
I wish I had Military Energy Gum back when I was in college reviewing for the final exams.
You know if you can get it separately?
Nowadays, they are available in ebay. Mostly in boxes of multiple packs. You can search for "Military Energy Gum" in ebay for some.
Would love to see a video of you making a review of Belgian ration packs. The old packs from WWI or WWII vs the new ones. Could become VERY interesting too. ;)
Cheers.
Those first strike bars are the best. I would hide mine in my cargo pocket if I got one before I ate it because if I didn't someone would start bothering me for it! great video bro keep it up!
This is a cool thing you do because it helps me see a glimpse of how my grandpas life was like in vietnam.
That ration is from 2013 he does have Vietnam ration reviews though
steve damn near getting high off the caffeine in that gel
Those drink colors are very vibrant.
Reviews are awesome , as a person who loves history in this country and loves to look at the old photos from the 50's-60's to when America was America and things were handmade here with the one thing in mind that doesn't exist today and that's GIVING A SHIT AND TAKING PRIDE IN WHAT YOU DO . I wanted to ask you , these reviews are very detailed but I think that seeing texture is a big part of the review . I see the videos will only upload in 480p I think that having a camera that gets you the
1080p or 1440p high deff would show everything , but they are pricey a lot of guys just set up a account for people to give money to support a channel even the ones that are crazy successful so I think we as your fans could get the money together to get you a sick camera . They aren't crazy expensive . Thanks for doing what you do bro .
Rob Superbug things weren't handmade in the 50's-60's. The industrial revolution happened in the 19th century
I could get my daily nutrition from just watching you eat this lol I don't need to eat with your videos.
HP and MANA potions :D
21 Century Stimpack.
I know its a little late,but wouldnt a 2077 stimpack also be a 21TH century stimpack?
If thats what you mean.

shout out to Steve. hope you and your family and friends are ok and doing well and safe from the hurricanes in your area.
I love First Strike Bars and the multipurpose stickers
That is some of the prettiest gum I've ever seen.
There's some guys that would eat 1-2 mre's a day in Iraq/Afghanistan I think these are a great idea they could help boost the calories taken in on patrols or on the move in general. Loving the videos Steve keepem coming
Enjoying your reviews. Keep it up
+Steve1989 MREinfo
Awesome. I also really enjoy MREs and the like. I've been through much of the modern slate of menus, even some of the old brown bags when I was younger. The food science is fascinating.
+Steve1989 MREinfo I agree. Reviewing looks like a great adventure. It's cool to see different opinions and preferences.
+Steve1989 MREinfo with respect to your channel, I really appreciate the obscure items, such as survival rations.
I've had the Zapple sauce.....great with a giant sprinkle of cinnamon.
Excellent review
Never seen these during my service. Neat
The energy gel looks like lemon custard. Nice!
Oh man first strike bars are the best. Chocolate one with peanut butter spread on it is so amazing
+Steve1989 MREinfo Oh yeah man, you won't be disappointed. So tasty. I'm sure you've heard of the MRE cookbook? If not, maybe make some videos on that too?
Legend has it, after eating all this, steve ran 50 marathons in a row haha
I can't wait until these become more available on the market. I might have to swing the higher cost to get one now just to try it.
Extremely happy to see some stay alert gum in anything BUT cinnamon. Got old REAL fast when I was chewing it constantly while pulling 36 hour shifts in Afghanistan. Only good thing about the cinnamon flavor ones was that no one wanted them, so I didn't have to fight anyone to make sure I had enough to stay awake.
Mostly interested in the chocolate pudding and energy gel, I'm not a fan of applesauce personally. Those seem like they should be added to standard MREs. Caffeine is always welcome in the field.
Great as always man!
+Steve1989 MREinfo No problem man!
That gum was a blessing and a curse to my taste buds. Still will not willingly eat that gum ever again haha.
I found some MOREs on ebay for around $30 w/shipping a pop. Worth it to try them out, not worth it to stock up on them. My other sources don't seem to have them yet. Wonder if I have any buddys still left in the Corps that might have access to them hmm.
Otherwise we could definitely work something out! Hope your house has aired out since that tootsie roll from hell in your new video!
If you're referring to the gum, in the video, then it probably isn't, exactly, the equivalent to Stay Alert. Stay Alert has pseudo ephedrine in it, in addition to caffeine.
+Jaybird196 From what I have been able to research, MEG (Military Energy Gum) is the rebranded name for the formally named Stay Alert gum. From what I can tell it's the same company. I could be mistaken, I'm going of articles I found.
Of course that doesn't mean they have the same ingredients. More than likely that they changed a few of the contents. Looks like they have 3 flavors now as well.
+izahealyou 'Interesting. Thanks, for telling me. This may be a way of selling another energy gum to the military, at a lower price, or as a companion gum to be used with the regular Stay Alert chews, and renamed to avoid confusion. Either formulation would be welcome on night watch, patrols, or a night march.
+Jaybird196 It almost looks like they have renamed the product to make it sell better on the civilian market.
The real proof will be if newly packaged FSRs are going to be packed with MEG or Stay Alert gum. If they have rebranded the same product, I would expect to see MEG in FSRs.
Of course it could be a separate product all together as you suggest. Every article I see refers to this as being "formally stay alert gum" but that could also just mean they switched to a different product from that company.
If you have 2 cameras could you put on over your shoulder and the other in front and edit in B-Rolls so we can see your face when you try some of that food? I think it would be interesting to see your reaction to some of that stuff.
Bernie sanders lolololololol
My man Bernie, BERNIE FOR PREZ!!!!!
Subscribed love your videos
Thanks for the reply. Quick question with the 1973 abandoned ship ration where most things were swapped out or was gone did you contact the seller and resolved it or nothing could be done?
Thanks for answering my question
Funny, I can hear the rate of your speech increase as you consume the energy rich aspects of the MRI...
The first time I had that gum, it was the cinnamon kind. I ate all 5 pieces and about 3-4 minutes into chewing, my nose started gushing blood.
Ryan Billado sounds like fun
Jesus!
Hey Steve huge fan love all your videos this is one of my favorites where can I find one of this ration so I can try it
The gum would sure keep me awake. Not cause of the caffeine, but just from the burning sensation of hellfire that peppermint produces in your mouth
Nice musical intro!
The First Strike Bar label, you can peel that off completely and stick it on to your tool box, cabinets, bumpers, laptops, and etc.
Something to do I guess. The 80's MRE creamer packets for coffees were really flammable. So they were like fireworks or great to start camp fires with.
this gives you something else to think about using gundog's reviewer made rations idea. especially when you consider most combat troops will field strip their MREs/FSRs. also thinking about the fact that troops nowadays are so connected to their CamelBaks for hydration. making me wish that I could get in on that study coming up even more!
***** I remember that one. I believe either he or gschultz9 had said something about hypothetically getting all of the top MRE reviewers together and having them make their perfect ration. I can't seem to find it now so I don't remember the specifics he mentioned.
Roger that. ;-)
+Steve1989 MREinfo Oooh! Wanna see! Wanna see! :D
First strike bars are so good,it is like a fudge bar.
Never had caffeine gum but I've had caffeine mints and they were pretty gnarly
How long are these things intended to last?
Have you ever had a 'might' bar in a ration? I served in desert storm and we had those and they are my personal favorite
So smart. Most of the items need water so they're light in the pack because water weighs a lot. The solid foods are chosen for their weight/calorie ratio. The only issue I see is if the soldier gets into a situation where they can't get fresh water. They have tons of calories but no hydration value.
Was video speed up at moments? When you were presenting stuff to camera or opening some things it felt like it's speed up... or was it just my flue + fever + 3rd sleepless night in a row combobreaker messing with my head?
yhea i saw phenalalanine n flipped....good call on not ingesting Z gum bro
Only reason why I would horde First Strike bars was to trade them in the field, couldn't stand the things.
That will get you jacked!!!!!
This looks like the liquid version of the MATRIX pill selection scene.
It's almost a mini version of a FSR.. Well basically it is..Awesome!
Nice, they give you instant health and mana potions !
Do you live off of military food
Matlock Crowl Nice!
did you have some of that gum before the review, this is like the turbo version
"There is probably 6 Different sweeteners in there, including Sucralose and Aspartame" Nice! Cancer gum!
How i wish its also available here in the Philippines those MRE's i wanna try them all :/
Sensie Oser there's like a hundred types on eBay and there are a few cheaper ones
The older rations have like 5 ingredients to each item and the modern ones have like 75 that you can't pronounce. Ahh simpler times back then!
I've taken shits with the exact consistency of that First Strike bar and it hurt like hell
that gum looks like something a back ally wizard would sell you
I seriously have no idea why that gum has so many sweeteners in there. I mean, it's got sugar and two different kinds of starch right off the bat, then they've gone with the Aspartame-Acesulfame combo, Sucralose (which is a chlorinated carbohydrate that's extremely similar in structure to sugar) and pure Aspartame and then they've added the Maltodextrin and corn syrup.
If you're not going to make a sugarfree gum, why add all those artificial sweeteners? XD
If my memory is correct, Canadian IMPs have a flat bottomed drink bag. I feel like that design would be a good change for US rations, since those drink bags have to be propped up if you want to sit them down.
I'm in agreement with you on the hot beverage bag thing. Now, if only the could make one like Canadian IMP version, but in the same size, as the US one.
it's like I NEED MORE
You need to do the first strike ration
you would literally become extremely hyper active and jittery after digesting those all at once or cardiac arrest lol
Gareth Bertram I've done it 😂
It is certainly a lot of stimulants, vitamin energy and carbs. The shits, the shakes followed by craving a more solid meal.
Anyone know where to order something like this?
Im from Canada and cant really seem to find something like this anywhere, just the larger 2 course stuff, all Im really looking for is the smaller packs to use for quick snacks while outdoors ATV'ing or hunting and the like
Dude, you could get analogous foods from your local grocer for considerably less money.
i love first struke bars
Better than a school lunch
I ate those for many weeks
Hey, Steve! Have you ever done a review on a ration that came with one the elusive Ranger bars? I have been hoping to find someone who has, and is willing to show/reveal the contents list :) .
+Steve1989 MREinfo Cool :D ! I have been mighty curious about them, for a while .
+Steve1989 MREinfo Awesome!
Btw, incidentally, do you still have of the Hershey Tropical bars? I wondered about the contents list, and how much it deviates from their regular formula,
+Steve1989 MREinfo Thanks! I'll have a look :) .
I was recommended to come here... Ty CZcams
Rewatching old vids… Steve has arm hair!
Is there a MRE chemical chill packs for beverages or towels?
I think being awake all night is the point for the energy gum.
MRE that comes with health and mana potions. Nice.
It kinda sucks when you start watching his newer videos first then you start watching the old ones and he doesn't say "nice!"
Are soldiers given optional stimulants like Modafinil or Amphetamine? I know pilots get them, don't know if infantry does.
Hell no. That shit causes other problems especially if you are wounded. Pilots don't take them anymore. Infantry sure as hell doesn't get them.
I have a question, does the military provide vegetarian mres for soldiers on duty who are vegetarian?
steve1989 what service u been in and how long
The first strike bar looks like a no bake chocolate cookie
where can I purchase these
wow finally something edible :D
where can you buy first strike bars? they look awesome
eBay has them or you can get the whole ration pack on amazon. Army Surplus might have them too
does a first strike bar taste like a cliff bar
I would have liked to see you tweak out after eating all of that energy.
Can you order these, would be nice while working on the ambulance.
