- Sanitary Clip & Groom On Longhaired Cat
Tinners is a timid boy and he found himself on the table today as he was in need of a sanitary clip and groom through. He had a few matts that needed removing, but nothing too major. It is alwasy best to keep on top of these early on, otherwise your cat can feel very uncomfortable as the matts become tighter and start pulling on their skin.
Our longhaired cats do take a lot of looking after, but if you make it a habit every day for just a few minutes, then it will save your cat from getting matted.

Your video made me feel comfortable. I watched quite a few in my quest to learn to use my new clippers for a sanitary trim. I'm adept at using shears but that is too dangerous for my two cats. Both cats have similar coats - one more bushy and the other longer. The boy is pleasant and fun except when it's time for mani-pedi which he is getting used to. Using the clippers on him is more of a "challenge" as he is very strong. I think im more determined than he is strong. The female has some skin issues (dermatitis) & the lower half of her body is super sensitive so when I stretch her leg, I better work quickly. I do this on my own because I have to. Just remember, little and often with your fur babies is always best. I know when they come to me, they are here for a good hour or two or more depending on how bad their coats are. However, if at home, just keep up a continuous grooming regime on a daily basis will help your babies stay free of any matting.
Have you tried the aloe vera veterinarian spray on your female with dermatitis? You can spray this onto her coat and comb in. It may help her skin condition. I am a huge believer in the power of aloe, but it MUST BE THE VETERINARIAN SPRAY. You can get this on Amazon.
Please do not put any other aloe on her.
@@LoveCatsGroomer Thank you for the information & I will look on Amazon for it. Mats are not a problem since I keep a comb nearby so that whenever they come to lay down (or stand) next to me or on me, I automatically comb them. I sometimes think they just use me for my grooming abilities. 🙀😹😹💞🌻🐾🐾

Can you do it just with scissors with rounded ends if you don't have an electric razor and can't find a good groomer to do a sanitary clip??

What a beautiful boy. I’ve come back to watch another example on how to do a sanitary clip as my Ragdolls both need doing. Unfortunately, the smaller of the two (who also happens to be the one with the attitude!) managed to somehow get most of what should be in the litter box stuck totally to his bottom! He will not let me do anything with him so I’ve get to recruit another pair of hands later and will try again. Definitely going to give them this clip though. I’ll try just the small area and leave their pants as they both have wonderful trousers.
One thing I know I’ll struggle with is the combing technique you use as they both hate it. They do let me brush they daily and for extended periods but that’s because the brush doesn’t pull. Neither have any mats but the comb still pulls and I know it will for the first time too because of the amount it takes out be the brush. Any tips?? Maybe I need gloves like you for my little man…and one of those space helmets for him as well🥴
Oh noooo - hope you got your boy sorted out - not the best of things to witness - poop stuck everywhere!
As for the combing, just keep persevering. They may well hate it to begin with, because cats are cats and prefer to do their own thing. But just keep persevering every single day. The more often you use the technique, the more they will get used to it.
I have witnessed many a cat that detested being handled never mind being brushed, to becoming the most brush loving fur babies ever.
One cat springs to mind - he was rescued and hiw Mum could not get near him so called me in. I visited every month for 6 months and in between my visits, his Mum attempted to do as much as he would allow her. She was terrified of him.
However, slowly but surely, over time, he started to change his attitude towards being groomed.
And now, Mum only has to click the brushes together and he runs to her for his pampering session.
It is so lovely to hear stories like that and be a part of the cats journey.
So, all I can say is keep persevering - small steps on a daily basis can turn to a huge leap over time.
