    You bring up some good points here. I hadn't even considered versatility when it comes to modding. Would have been cool if they worked in GCN compatibility somehow

    I sorta disagre with the wii u releasing too early. Had it came out in 2011 or 2010 it would've been received better since by 2012 tablets were already mainstream and the wii branding was already dead. Had it come out in 2013 than it will most likely been overshadowed by the ps4 and xbox one since those consoles were already pushing 7 and 8 years respectably.

    I have so many memorable experiences with the console. Personally, I think it's very underrated despite its shortcomings (especially the marketing), the concept was interesting and unique especially when considering games like Nintendo Land. The UI was a definite standout as you mentioned, I really loved the atmosphere that Nintendo delivered with the console. And many Wii U games have pretty much set the basis for Switch.
    Severely underrated channel. What an excellent analysis regarding the Wii U as a whole; the visuals and commentary are amazing and you even took the time to add in the English captions! I'm blown away that you only have 173 subs, many other viral creators don't even put a fraction of the work and quality you probably put into this. Please keep it up! :D

      It's really a shame the Wii U turned out the way it did. I think the main reason it's underrated is because nobody gave it a second chance. By the time the real heavy-hitters came out, everyone decided that the system was a failure and moved on.
      I'm really glad you're enjoying my videos! They aren't easy to make but I always have a good time. And in the end, that's what matters.

      @@Kardino you're going to make it. I suggest maybe a video going after Nintendos consumer practices or entertaining my idea about the wii u gamepad failure being a huge loss to game design. It allows for the level of control seen in mouse and keyboard, but with the accessibility of a controller. It evolves ux. And thus it evolves game design. The industry has taken a step backwards by forgetting about the gamepad. I think this could get views, or maybe not, I'm just passionate about this subject and want to help your channel. Know I'll make the video if you don't busta!]

    I think the Wii U definitely had potential to be a really good console but obviously it fell short. I love the fact it can play so many games though, and not to mention all the original games on there. Whenever a game gets ported to the switch, I usually just pick up the Wii U version because it is the same game for cheaper.

    Super informative & entertaining video review as usual Kardino! You bring up a good point aobut the resentful feelings regarding the Zelda BOTW Wii U Gamepad integration cuts to make room for the Switch port :/! It's a good example of how UX is game design - they're one is same. Splatoon and BOTW would have higher skill-ceilings, deeper (& more entertaining) speedruns, and greater fun potential via tighter control because of the way the UI is integrated more seamlessly into the game to allow for more intuitive and precise /complex controls. Imagine switching weapons on the fly in BOTW with the gamepad - allowing for complex, varied, creative, playstyle-tailored combos + resource management & other mechanics which now are integrated seamlessly into the minute to minute gameplay experience. Imagine what botw speedruns would look like. Imagine how this sort of ux, profoundly encourages emergent gameplay. It fundementalky encourages players to experiment with different combinations of items weapons crafting to approach combat exploration puzzle solving in brand new ways. We all saw the potential of what Zelda could become on the gamepad with the remakes. I hope this comment is coherent so people can realize the absolute tragedy of the botw cut

    I think the reason why they didn’t have multiplayer GamePad support was because it would have costed like close to $100 a person.

    • @Kardino
      @Kardino  Před rokem +1

      True but they never offered replacement GamePads either. I wonder if duel-GamePad support was just too complicated for them to develop.

      It probably was because it was advanced technology for the time and the GamePad alone probably costed over $100 so it was a bit too much to sell multiple.

    In my opinion games didn’t need to use the GamePad to be good. They were plenty of great games that didn’t use the GamePad very much. It wasn’t like the Wii which forced it in a lot of games. Plus if it wasn’t for games using the GamePad as a way to play console games not on a TV we wouldn’t have the Switch.

      You can: things get more complicated I think on August 29th, but for the time being, you can purchase a Nintendo E Shop card, type in the code on the Wii U E Shop, and add funds that way to then purchase games.

      The fact that there’s no way to buy most of those games on Switch makes me sad. The biggest loss of the Wii U shutting down will be the virtual console

    The Wii U OS was a bloated, visually busy, slow mess. When you have to create a fast launch menu to bypass the normal environment because no one has eight years to wait for the console to boot there is nothing redeeming about your OS.

  • @0smundSaddler
    @0smundSaddler Před 2 lety

    It really was terrible. It's probably Nintendo's worst system that isn't the Virtual Boy or E-Reader, if you count those. Subpar hardware and the worst first party library in the company's history.
    Mario Maker, the only real system selling "killer app" game, came out way too late into its lifespan to actually matter. There isn't a Wii U exclusive that I would call a masterpiece, when the most fun and value I got out of the system was a Zelda Dynasty Warriors there's a big problem.
    A lot of the franchises that appeared on it did so in their worst form ever, Bayonetta 2 was vastly worse than the first, Starfox Zero is probably the worst game Miyamoto has ever made, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was an embarrassment, Xenoblade X is awful compared to the other two games. Nintendo were just not delivering on great games or living up to their own legacy.

    • @Kardino
      @Kardino  Před 2 lety

      Counter Argument:
      While there were many mediocre games on there, there were also some great experiences like Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and of course Breath of the Wild. Plus, it had the best retro game library by far, throwing in downloadable Wii, DS and GBA titles.
      While I will never say that the Wii U era was very great, now that the dust has settled, I sort of view it as the ultimate Nintendo box prior to the Switch, especially if you homebrew it.

  • @GregCubed
    @GregCubed Před 3 lety

    Maybe it can play games from every other Nintendo console, but the Wii U can’t play Switch games, so it’s actually a 0/10 😀
